P2Pool (recommended) and traditional pool available for VTC

P2Pool: http://vtcpool.co.uk:9171
Traditional MPOS pool: https://vtcpool.co.uk

P2Pool setup guide and FAQ

Why use p2pool?

  • Mined coins are deposited directly in your wallet in the generation payment for the block,
they are never held by a pool wallet and can't be lost due to failures or hacking/thefts
  • Even if the node you connect to fails, you don't lose the coins you mined - your shares are distributed on the network
  • Distributed (less vulnerable to DoS attacks, less chance of big pools having enough hashrate to be capable of a 51% attack)
  • Private (you are paid with coinbase transactions and your public key is never seen on the network until you spend the funds)

Feel free to use https://vtcpool.co.uk if you prefer a traditional pool. Especially, users with lower hashrates may find earnings
are better on the traditional pool. There is room for a mixture of pool types, but please help further strengthen the decentralisation
of Vertcoin by using p2pool if it works well for you.

To mine on p2pool, use your VTC address as username, and any password, so your command line should be like:

vertminer -o stratum+tcp://vtcpool.co.uk:9171 -u Vw44xQPqgwbqZVpRzPoHe6M4jAGYceiZZP -p x

Please follow the advice in the P2Pool setup guide and FAQ about setting your minimum
share difficulty - this will prevent HW errors and stales and improve your mining income.

Interesting.. I never minted in p2pool so I dont know how it works.. you write users with lower hashrate may find earnings reduced.. what do you mean by lower HR? I would like to help decentralise network Smiley

Is it possible, that "network hashrate" published by http://vertcoin.com/ is counting only pools network hashrate?
As it fell only to about 200 but diff is around 12...
So probably like 25% miners went to p2pools? And their HR is not counted on vertcoin.com ? is it correct?

I think it just reports the networkhashrate RPC command from the client (or whatever it is exactly called). You can get the same estimate from your local wallet.

No because the only person who knows a miner's real hash rate is the miner. The pools estimate it based on the shares the miner submits. The network estimates it based on the # and speed blocks are being found.

Hey not to change the subject (I would totally hook my laptop up to a pool but everyone tells me I will burn it up. Also I don't know how so it's fine I will just buy them) but really see the importance of promotion/exposure with coins in general. VTC has a lot of advantages where most of what is out there is relying on hype or marketing. I know multiple translations are in progress, and also the fork is ~this weekend and exchange announcements etc.

So have you guys thought of using PR Newswire?

http://www.prnewswire.com/

I don't know how much effect it would have outside the existing community but it is fairly inexpensive. $200-250 a year and I think a small fee per press release. I have used them in the past to promote businesses in the mainstream financial industry and their reach is impressive.

If Vertcoin wants to open an account, I would be able to put out fairly frequent press releases, same as any company does announcing new products or developments with the market (new exchange listings etc).

This is in my experience the best way to get information out to where it can be picked up beyond the existing community without full time PR people. If the idea is to get to bitcoin/litecoin scale it may be advantageous to position outside altcoin forumland fairly early on.

just putting it out there and if there's any interest I'll draft up some releases.

jballs thanks for the offer to draft some releases - I think that is an excellent idea.

I agree with you entirely. I also perhaps have some understanding of the flip side of this equation - technical people tend to be a bit blinkered to the realities of the wider world, they tend to think if they build good things, people will understand they are good and want them. The real world doesn't work like that - you have to shout as loudly as you can to anyone who will listen _why_ these things are better, there just aren't enough hours in the day for people to find your superior widget/cryptocurrency unless you help them notice it.

The problem with paying anything out of the developers pocket is, he didn't premine this at all, and I don't actually think he holds a great deal of it. I have put up a lot of VTC in the first week or so when it was still permitted to do giveaways and the like here to help get it noticed - I'm not saying I won't be putting up some more, but I've had to reduce the size and frequency of my bountying things otherwise I too won't have much VTC!

I think this is a good idea though. If we're thinking the cost will be about $250/year that is about 600VTC at current prices. I will put up 30VTC towards that bounty if other people here will match enough to cover the total cost. I don't know who will escrow/convert to USD to do that. I don't want to be preumptuous and assume you are volunteering your own time to do that, but if you are, I would be very grateful and I'm sure others here would too - you seem to have a sound business mind and seem like you know how to get things done. I'm trying to spend a bit of time each day banging the drum for Vertcoin in the forum and behind the scenes to get more attention to it, but what with the technical side of what I'm doing for the project, my time for that is somewhat limited. Someone else doing a bit of PR would be great.

This is very true, and to emphasize the point- we have a supply and demand issue here. Miners understand the advantages much more clearly than non-miners, but miners are net sellers of coins. Obviously the tech side is the most important aspect, but you need buyers for the price to rise. I know a lot about speculating and speculators so this is where and who I will be marketing to. Miners will figure it out (and hopefully invest, mine, and hold). My expectation, if enough speculative interest comes in to push the price to around .001 VTC will have market cap near the top 20. This in itself should be self sustaining it getting critical mass, as it will then have outperformed most of the coins that have been around for much longer. At 500k market cap and 10-30BTC volume a day it will not take much outside interest to move the price. But if you have more miners/pools coming in than you do specs, it will be an uphill battle to absorb supply.

I haven't totaled current pledges but believe we are around 400, let everyone know we are doing this and let's see if we can launch today.

Just a quick question, did everyone's hashrate drop due to the new difficulty adjustment scheme? or is it just me?
