The best way to market this coin is to make sure we mention it whenever we see a discussion about Litecoin ASICs anywhere (whether it's here, on r/litecoin, the litecoin forums etc).

When people complain about the Litecoin ASICs are coming, tell them about vertcoin! Make it clear it's GPU friendly and it's based off scrypt just like litecoin.

If we market this correctly I see huge growth potential. We want Vertcoin as the the default "go-to" coin for disgruntled Litecoiners. Whenever Litecoin ASICs get mentioned, we want Vertcoin to be the first coin that gets mentioned next.

It would be great to have a dedicated Media/PR page on the coin website - hopefully this is something the guy/gal who is leading the PR campaign can organise, as well as press releases, perhaps some "soundbites" that non techies like me can use to talk about and spread the news about the coin?

Well me personally I am thinking of spending a few hundred dollars on an advertising campaign.

Specifically so we get the message across that Vertcoin is here and ready to accomodate the Litecoin miners who want a scrypt coin which is truly asic resistant whilst still being GPU friendly.

I want to create a separate topic for this, would you guys think this announcements subforum section is appropriate?

I will be collecting ideas exactly how to execute the campaign. Hopefully others will chip in with some donations but either way if it's just me it will still be a few hundred dollars worth of advertising.

To elaborate on this I've decided am going to run some advertising to promote Vertcoin on reddit. I'm going to run my ideas past the reddit/r/vertcoin community tomorrow.

I don't hold a huge amount of Vert and am not a techie so cannot assist with VTC or dev work, however I have an hour a day I could assist with PR/posting/reposting etc if I was told what to say and where. Just LMK!

I think i shall give P2pool a go as kilovolt is highly unreliable and bitcrush charge extortionate fees of manual TX of 0.4 and a auto payout of 0.1.  Also bitcrush has only given me 30 coins for 12 hours of mining with 1.5Mh.  Something is wrong there.

my config file for p2p should look like this?

"url" : "stratum+tcp://p2pool.vertcoin.org:9171",
or "url" : "http://p2pool.vertcoin.org:9171",

?

stratum+tcp

For anyone having problems with the traditional pools, p2pool is alive and well due to its distributed nature; http://scanner.etyd.org

Please keep in mind that it uses 24h PPLNS so looking at your income after 1 hour is not indicative of future income

OK so I am new at doing p2pool and have only ever done normal pools like bitcrush and kilovolt.   I am having issues with these tutorials and would like some help please.

This is my .bat file as per boristhespiders instructions  "vertminer -o stratum+tcp://vtcpool.co.uk:9171 -u "vert address"+0.001508 -p x"  (have 1300kh)  does absolutely nothing but shuts down CP instantly.

What am I doing wrong?

Here is my normal cfg for kilovolt

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://vtc.kilovolt.co.uk:3333 -u "username" -p "password" -I 13 -w 256 -g 2 --gpu-reorder --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-engine 1060 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 0 --gpu-vddc 1.144 --temp-target 80 --auto-fan

That works fine on normal pools.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Did you try putting the +0.001508 inside the quotes ("")?

like
Code:
"vert address"+0.001508" -p x

I'm assuming you replaced vert address with your actual wallet address.

I have no " in my cfg at all i only have them there for show to highlight the part where you would put your address.  vertminer -o stratum+tcp://vtcpool.co.uk:9171 -u vert address+0.001508 -p x

I have also twice now tried to sign up on boristhespiders pool to only be told my password is wrong, it isn't.  And with a new name and email it now just says "token expired" so i guess i shall give up on trying to use boris site for the normal way of mining for me.

I see, sorry. How about without the +number then? You can run vertminer with --verbose too to get some extra information, hopefully something useful

Nope even with --verbose on the end it instantly shuts down.  I have tried it with and without the +numbers at end and also using cgminer.exe instead of vertminer at the front of cfg.  with cgminer at front it starts but i get errors.
I could understand if this was a complicated procedure but it is not Sad

Aside from hypotheticals does it matter in practice if they break 51%? Seems game theory wins out here, all benefit from a strong coin at this point, no?

Yeah in actuality it doesn't matter as long as they don't use the hash power to attack the coin. And some large pool or miner could always shift more hash power to the coin than the coin has in total right now. But on principal it's best to have hash power spread out.

GENTS - PLEASE HELP THE NETWORK

I have noticed, with my forgetting to build UPNP into the KGW release wallets, that my pool (which is one of the DNS seeds) has a LOT of incoming connections. The same is doubtless true of the other DNS seeds.

This means it won't be long, with the growth we're seeing before people can't sync wallets again, because no-one running the KGW wallet released a week or so back is accepting incoming connections - it's just us at the DNS seeds.

Please, for the good of the network, update to the wallets linked below.

This update is in no way mandatory, and nothing else apart from UPNP being built in has changed, but it would really help the network if you'd take a minute to update.

http://vertcoin.org/downloads/Vertcoin-setup.exe if you want the installer, http://vertcoin.org/downloads/Vertcoin-Qt-Win.zip if you prefer just the plain files.

Hi Kestrel,

Sorry about this. Please PM me your username - I'll manually unlock your account. I checked the logs, and no email confirmations have failed, so you should have received it, but if you'd like to try again I'm happy to unlock it.
