Maybe someone can open up a poll/discussion on http://www.digibyteforum.com/ about the reduction? So Jared doesn't have to count the votes from this topic Wink

I'm going afk for now, so if someone else could open it, would be awesome!

144 years to me also looking great for the long run. But in the short may cause some pnds.
But which coin does not have that anyway? In fact, DGB has stayed away being a pnd compared to many other coins out there.

I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to make these video updates!  Though I'm sure you guys are always working hard when we don't hear any updates, its always nice to see the progress and exciting plans for the future of DigiByte!

I would also vote for a reduction at this point.

you can also generate two DGB-addresses, one for yes and one for no. everyone gives a vote with a transfer of 1DGB to one of these adresses. Fairness is important... (so all DGB users can join the voting)

This is a great idea. Practical use case for the blockchain.

I love it!Some very exciting things to come for Digibyte!

Thanks for the update Jared, I still dont know about the production, Again a hardfork. If we do this,Can we combine this with the Digispeed hardfork?

So if i'm correct, We will see after the reduction around 5x less Digibytes produced. This is no problem in the future? Is Digibyte still profitable to mine?  We NEED miners for security and i'm afraid that we will loose miners by this reduction.

Correct me if i'm wrong,Not a expert in this area Smiley

Ow, and i love the Netherlands part Smiley

Looks great! What is that thumping noise in the back every so often though?

fingers tapping on the table i believe...

awesome video! that covers about everything. that's quite a number of projects. will you be hiring a few more people into the team?

anyway...i too am up for the reduction - 144 years.
this way, DigiByte will position itself a lot more closer to be side by side with Bitcoin. "1:1000 ratio with Bitcoin, better for micro transactions." Are there any other altcoins that does this btw? that the total supply will be mined in 144 years?

Awesome video DigiReport!

Looking forward to seeing them on a regular basis as you have planned.

And the DigiKnow series too!

Great stuff.

As for the reward reduction and 144 years . . . sounds like a long time . . . so long that it gives me the impression deep down that DigiByte is going to be here forever! And from that subliminal standpoint, I'm all for it! (Anything that reinforces the idea that DigiByte is here to stay has to be a good idea.) If it helps deal with selling pressure by the short term profit oriented miners, even better.

Now, you know me, and that I can't post without a suggestion or two:

Go to minute 5:11 of the DigiReport: DigiByte Core Team Projects.

  • Can we get that somewhere on the DigiByte.co home page with hot links?
  • Permanent and prominent links for the DigiReports and DigiKnows on the home page as well?

Again, great job Jared. You're the man!

Looks like a lot of coins are following in guldencoins footsteps with the reward changes over longer time frame. Myraid coin also announced they reducing supply.
Reducing supply will be good for digibyte and not put so much pressure on existing users, as a miner I will be disappointed but I can go mine other coins to buy dgb and nlg with.

Yes, but we need the hash for the security, so you have to find a nice balance between rewards for miners and demand.

The price might double or triple if rewards are reduced short term and then it will balance out for good returns and rewards.

Fantastic first DigiReport Jared. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this develops and love the DigiKnow plan.
Also, some excellent leadership in opening the supply reduction question to the community.
Brilliant ideas coming from the community regarding how Digibyte may be used by community members to vote. I’m all for this but obviously this sort of thing needs to be as transparent as possible and steps taken to ensure that one community member gets one vote! So, really looking forward to seeing how we tackle this as well.
Maybe the supply ratio could become a community driven variable. Perhaps, if the community believed the mining pressure to be too high they could vote and reduce the supply or, at another juncture, if they felt the mining was friendly and performing well for the community, they could vote for an increase. This would give the community some real influence and responsibility for DigiByte. Just an idea but one that would really help us stand out I believe.
At this juncture, I would support a supply reduction, it makes sense if we can’t increase the friendly mining at this time.

For the community to consider!

This should give you some insight as to what it would cost to double the current sha network of DigiByte, including the larger unfriendly part. Of course you have to power the machines on top but it is basically an out of the box bitcoin farm.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/52x-Bitmain-Antminer-S5-SHA-256-BTC-Bitcoin-Miner-1155GH-s-590w-52-Pack-/251793760620

Over 7000 times as much equipment is currently mining Bitcoin and just 44 times as much mining Peercoin, Bitcoins nearest rival in speed. I'd like to see us slip in between these two guys at sometime in the future with the clear ambition of one day being #1 or close enough not to feel threatened but today that's just a dream but we need to remember how important network speed and mining is to us and always be thinking about and implementing ways of keeping it high, friendly and distributed.

1st round of e-mailing      20/07/2015 - 21/07/2015

1,083 e-mails sent

Automatic Replies: ~8.5% (mostly away from desk)

REMOVE: 2

Failed Delivery / Undeliverable: ~8.3%

After DB clean-up, this leaves me with just under 1,000 mostly high quality, middle management level, contact addresses (managers, office directors, account executives, etc.), which are sent in related group/department/division batches in open address format (not blind copies) so that recipients can see that their colleagues also received the same e-mail, hopefully leading to conversation about the subject (even if they are on opposite sides of the world and it is only an e-mail conversation). The target sector is exclusively financial related - banks, insurers, property managers, etc.

Total time spent: 10 hours

I’m looking at purchasing something already compiled, but the big risk there is the quality of the database provided.

US Finance Companies
https://www.emaildatapro.com/targeted-email-lists/2015-fresh-updated-usa-finance-companies-116-569-email-database.html

Perhaps the UK and Netherlands might be a better value for roughly the same money. http://companydatabases.net/webshop/

Have you seen this from blockchain.info ?  https://blockchain.info/nodes-globe It looks like there is serious interest in the UK and the Netherlands . . . rivaling both coasts of the U.S.
