Running a win 32 bit machine. Once I backup the wallet, do I need to touch any directories or delete any files? Do I just download the client and install? Need to make sure nothing gets messed up. What about the \app\roaming folder?

Thanks,
YC

Silly question: Wallet is not fully synched. Could it be because I am using an older version?

YC

Could be, I would definataly back up your wallet.dat, even make a copy, put in safe place & upgrade. The new wallet is mighty nice, altho if your not familliar, initially a lil different than the old style ones.

on the other hand, as CryptoLTD said, the latest wallet is really nice, it's definitely worth the upgrade

Find your wallet.dat, for digibytes copy it ( just incase ), then put both someplace safe.. then after you have the wallet.dat & copy of it in a safe place, you can delete everything, DL the new version, install it & run it.. as soon as the splash screen goes to the full wallet interface, you can close it, & replace the wallet.dat that the new version created, with one of the 2 you made ( one for back up 'just incase' ), then restart the wallet & re-build the block chain. As the block chain is re-built, your funds will begin to show in wallet once the blocks are downloaded that contain the information from your deposits. Thats how I do it.. BUT.. if you want the official directions, I do believe Jarred put an upgrade video on the digibytes youtube page.

The above is the cleanest way for sure.  (good to note what CryptoLTD said about not worrying about your coins "disappearing" until the sync catches up to the appropriate block). This process would be my advice as well.

If you're worried about the process though, just backup the wallet.dat securely & run the installer without deleting. I believe that it will install to a sub-folder of the current wallet & will keep the old blockchain so that you can start using it straight away. Or in your case, the sync should continue from where it left off.

Thank you! I am using a much older version and the wallet now is completely synched, but it may be worth an upgrade.

This might work too, altho I have never tried it like that, either way, it wont hurt to back up that wallet.dat, that file is the heart n soul of your funds, if its lost I think that = game over.

We make backups on a pretty frequent basis, but I just want to make sure there are no other files we need to retain. I am assuming the app\roaming folder will be taken care off automatically during the upgrade?

Not that Im aware of, but theres block explorers on the ANN PG1, I believe Jared had said @ one of the conventions & the then time of the last audit, there were multiple addresses with 1MIL +, I have no idea if that is the case now, I would Imagine it still holds true, but do not know for fact.

Yeah, i'm curious about that as well. I want to be be in the top 3.

I've used one of the open source block parsers (https://github.com/znort987/blockparser) which can find the unspent outputs for all the addresses on the chain.

I'll throw the DigiByte modified version in a repo so you can compile it yourself and check it out.  I'll includ my dump too, so you can just check the list if you want.

I haven't confirmed its accuracy yet but when I checked the balance on my address it was correct.

It will be a few hours, need to run out for a bit

this kind of data is always interesting to look at but of course some people keep DGB across several wallets, as I do. Last time Jared posted about this I got the impression there were multiple holders of more than 10m DGB

Yeah, your not wrong (about the data). The new client also trys to enforce not reusing addresses now, which means best practice makes it impossible for a parser like this to associate an address to a wallet.

Its accurate on a per address basis.

The data is interesting but useless if your looking for the biggest wallets. It can tell you broad things, like there are 200k addresses with unspent outputs (just a made up number), there have been a total of so and so addresses since the beginning of the chain, etc.   Interesting, useless data.  My favorite kind Smiley

10m DGB is only worth 4.5 BTC so yeah of course there are multiple holders.

The total amount of coins is too much.... 21 billions coin....

Comparison: NXTcoin has 1 billions and they have the best community and active DEVs, lot of applications and developments going on.
The price of NXT has been steady around 0.00005 for a very long time and currently they are around 0.00013. So this is the best case (Assuming all DGB's mined) !
I am not counting other pluses for NXT.

Simply divide 0.00013/21 = 0.00000619047 ($0.004031), then approximately that is the best, ever best that can be achieved by DGB, where DGB must have active developments, community, etc... as NXT....

I do think, at the very moment, 1DGB=1$ is a very impossible dream. However, hope does not cost anything.

Suggestion: Lowering the total supply to 5 Billions will do a good job, but to reach even 0.1$ dream, total supply should have been 800,000,000 (Too late, I think).

Good luck to DigiByte. I really want to see this coin achieving a lot of things, more than NXT did.

It doesn't seem like holders of DGB want the coin to go anywhere. We're back at the same level as before.

Wtf is wrong with people... everyone who sells is equally responsible for the pricedrop. This way, the coin will go nowhere,  understand that. We will be stuck at this price forever as the tactic after each pump is sell to perhaps buy more coins.

So think again next time DGB rise and don't sell like idiots

Some only buys DGB to use the pump points. They dont care about DGB, whatever coin it is.

Less coins doesn't mean higher value, it all depends on adoption and strong hand does help..  Here at DGB we sell like crazy after each pump :-/

Why would I not sell & profit? I have a 'address with my long term investment', and I have 'on market funds' & will trade it when ever I can to profit in the short term, thats what creates volume & feeds me. ( any coin that I feel is a good long term..not just DGB )

This.  It was ridiculously easy to see the correction coming.  It was too much too fast for no reason.  I just wish I wouldve acted on my own advice and doubled my holdings.

I don't agree, or lets say partially agree.
Less coin mostly means higher values even it does have no SUPPORT.. Look at Astrocoin Smiley

If you have many billions of coin, then naturally it is open to dumps easily, the price goes down bad... that is also your point.
