Okay. I'm just very concerned about the state of the private key if the public key gets wiped this easily. I actually have all my keys recorded now except for this one specific brass token now that I know they rub off. I guess that's a side effect of showing them off to friends/family.
Didn't you receive a list of addresses via email after the shipment was sent?

i ordered some on the 13th, nothing has happened yet.
EDIT: woah, complaining does work!
I have no way to know which order was yours by your forum handle alone and did not receive any PM/emailed complaint. If you mean forum posting, it having worked probably was a coincidence in timing. I was traveling on the 13th and will have sent your order several days after that, complaint or no complaint. On the series 1 coins the firstbits are easy to rub off. The private key is fine and you do not need the firstbits to redeem. Series 2 firstbits will not rub off.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable. I never believe them. If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins. I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion. Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice. Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

I rarely venture over to this board, but I guess I should have sooner. Anyhow, I recently ordered one of the 10 BTC silver coins and I'm very eagerly awaiting it's arival. Anyone have these in hand? What do you think of it? I think they look really cool. I'm a bit of a coin nerd and my 25BTC coin is my favorite to keep in my pocket. The binary inscription on the reverse is brilliant. I might need to buy a second one to break out of the case and carry around...it might be my new favorite pocket coin (and I've got lots). http://casascius.appspot.com/group?type=5

I know MtGox redeems Casascius physical bitcoins, and I've had success there, but are there any alternative exchanges or other means by which one could redeem them?

Armory client will, and MultiBit might as well. My Wallet from Blockchain.info does: After authenticating, click "Import / Export" button, then "Import Private Key": - BlockChain.info/wallet

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

Especially considering how temperamental the hologram stickers apparently are... The private key is archival inkjet on paper. The only reason the Series 1 numbers are the way they are, is that I had the hologram company do those. I sent them the list of firstbits as a text file, and they sent me the stickers with those numbers already pre-printed on them. I didn't have much of a chance to vet what kind of printing I was going to get. But the private keys I did all myself, so as to retain complete control over that part of the process. Series 2 improves upon it - instead of having the hologram company print anything at all, they provide a window, and I print both numbers using the same process.

Ah. So you print out the circle with the keys on normal paper, and then affix it to back of the sticker before putting the sticker on the coin?

Sorry if this is a necro, but did anyone have any clearer pictures of version 2 of this coin or could someone maybe talk about how well it works in your pocket?
Here's a testament a new purchaser may like to hear about to help in decision-making: I have carried around both a 1 and 25 btc piece even in the clear pouch regularly now since late October, over 8 months now, the 1 BTC piece is actually turning slightly green and is very dull looking (happens to brass with lots of exposure) and the 25 btc piece is starting to have its gold plating rub off on the "B" portion of the front of the coin. Both have had their firstbits public key wiped off. I have other pieces that are stored in a safe and look like they did the day I bought them. Lastly, I have one that I keep in a drawer with a silver round one ounce and aside from getting slightly duller in color, it looks nice still.
It's okay that the above has happened to the pieces I've been keeping in my pocket, I've gotten plenty of enjoyment out of them, but I did want to warn folks that if you purchase these to show family/friends etc, you will want to take care of them better than I did (ie, don't just leave them in your pocket). Would I do it again? Absolutely, I loved showing these coins to hundreds of people and even had one person steal the 25 btc piece from me (I stole it back, obviously).
All I'd like to see is maybe some customer photos or close-ups of the version 2 coin, because I'm considering re-up'ing my purchase to show this newer one to new/more people as well.

The series 2 pieces are the same metal-wise - the firstbits will not rub off series 2 as they are below the surface of the sticker. You may be interested to know the 5BTC coin is pretty tarnish resistant - being nickel plated. The 5BTC coin actually has two flavors, one with the gold series1 sticker and one with a silver series2 sticker. Can honor requests for the sticker type, the series2 sticker is better for one that will be kept in a pocket.

Ahh, excellent. Like I said, I don't regret the purchase one bit anyway, but I'll have to get some of those.
I take it the reason the 10-BTC pieces are selling at quite a premium is because you ordered the silver for them at a time when the price was a bit higher?
