People, may not realize it but this feature is really our golden ticket.... it brings even more freedom to innovate... I don't think the public will get it just as quick as InstantX  ... but the Spork probably deserves a place along InstantX and Darksend... it will allow us to create as many new features as we want with little risk.... Darkcoin will thrive not only because of its current features, but because of its ability to  quickly evolve and adapt to a changing environment. Vive le Spork!

with sporks you get a de-activated piece of code through an update that can be activated by the dev team once certain
conditions have been met (for example 80% of masternodes on latest protocol version or a specific version).
If the update after activation does not behave properly it can also be de-activated again.

For ''SPORK_1_MASTERNODE_PAYMENTS_ENFORCEMENT'' to get activated the condition is 80% of miners on latest protocol version i think
or 80% of MN on latest protocol version.. or both (not totally sure).

InstantX gives you immediate certainty of ownership, but you have to wait about 2 mins to spend the coins you received. This is important and a good practice because we still have an underlying Proof of Work network.  Basically, the merchant has to wait 2 minutes to spend his coins but the customer can pay and leave the premises with his goods after 4 seconds. That is the beauty of the system.

Warning: ChildHarold is known to drag people into long conversations about what he perceives as weaknesses in coins that compete with his own interests.   I believe he is very young and inexperienced, so please be understanding and don't fall for his disguised interest.

Edit: It turns out the merchant can spend his coins immediately after receiving an InstanX, but using a normal send. If he wants to InstantX again then he has to wait for a bit.
