Not all drugs are illegal in all places. They are not uniformly controlled around the world.

Darkcoin is a global and universal currency.

Sellers and buyers have to obey the law, where they are.

That's all we have to say about that.

As an official view that sounds pretty good but for me as an individual it's worth pointing out that just because it's the law doesn't necessarily make it right. A great example of this is slavery, which of course, was legal in the past. Was it fairer in the past? You don't have to look very far to find unfair laws, even nowadays  Shocked

To all Darkcoin Ambassador Group Volunteers:

Darkcoin Ambassador Group - Opening Meeting

We selected next Wednesday the 11th as the date for our first meeting. We are offering three sessions at different times as we are all in different countries, in some locations the meetings will happen on Thursday so please check the proposed times below and compare to your local time zone.

1. First session: 7:00 am(WED)(New York)/ 12:00 pm(WED)(London)/1:00pm(WED)(Madrid,Berlin)/ 8:00 p.m.(WED)(Hong Kong)/11:00p.m.(WED)(Sidney)

2. Second session: 2:00 p.m. (WED) (New York)/7:00 pm(WED)(London)/8:00pm(WED)(Madrid,Berlin) /3:00 a.m.(THU) (Hong Kong) / 6:00 a.m.(THU) (Sidney)

3. Third session: 9:00 p.m.(WED)(New York)/2:00 a.m.(THU)London/ 3:00am(THU)(Madrid,Berlin)/ 10:00 a.m.(THU)(Hong Kong)/ 1:00 p.m.(THU)(Sidney)

Please it is very important to RSVP here:

http://doodle.com/4y2rdm879mqnqvzi

Once we get confirmations from everyone we will confirm the final meeting times.

We will all meet on Slack at the proposed times and from there we will launch voice conferences or hangouts as necessary. We are estimating a one hour meeting so please make sure you have that much time available.

Here is a preliminary agenda for the meetings:

1. Introduction of the project. (5 min)
2. Brief introduction of the volunteers. (1-2 min per volunteer)
3. Defining the work methodology (5 min)
4. Short term goals (10 min)
5. Territory assessment (5 min)
5. Distribution of tasks to volunteers. (10 min)
6. Feedback from the members and open discussion (Open)

I will invite everyone into Slack later today using the emails you provided for this purpose, so you can get familiar with the platform. I will advice when everyone has been invited to Slack on the forums . If for some reason you didn't get an invite after I announce everyone has been invited, please don't take offense, organizing a large group is challenging, just PM me or Tungfa and we will take care of it.

We have prepared some material to assist in having an orderly meeting, this material will be uploaded to the Ambassador Slack Channel tomorrow Monday so you can all have an idea of where we are going with this before the meetings. After these opening sessions we will continue communicating over Slack, so there won't be a need to have the whole group in conference calls very often, but we believe it is important this first time to get things going.

Again, please remember to RSVP as soon as possible. See you all on Wednesday!  Smiley

So i'm not trolling or anything, genuine question here. What role would darkcoin play if darkwallet succesfully anonamizez transactions? I kind of get the grasp of Masternodes but then we bring out sidechains(i guess dark would still play a role if its implemented with sidechains). Also, could drk bring new innovation that bitcoin currently cant do(smart property, contracts, digital assets, ect..)?

Edit* im also aware with Instantx, but i believe further down the road Bitcoin will also have faster transaction times.

Dark Wallet would still be centralized and could potentially leak your information whereas your local Darkcoin Client remains steadfast in your personal and private hands Smiley

Here are two posts from Toknormal on Darkwallet that were useful to me:

Ok.
Chrome and Firefox have a centralised server?
Exists now a decentralised browser?
Thanks for answers.

The main difference I'd identify is that Darkwallet is not a generalised solution. It is a one-time treatment of a one-time transaction.

You can't remotely use that approach for any kind of enterprise that requires an institutional approach to privacy.

Darkcoin's 2-tier approach is pre-emptive and generalised. Pre-emptive because it doesn't wait till the instant of the transfer to attempt to anonymise it and can therefore do a far more thorough job than any realtime mixer. Generalised because it's not only the funds you send that are anonymous but the ones you receive and hold also.

Think of it this way - Darkwallet addresses hunger for one person for one day by going and hunting a wild boar.

Darkcoin solves it for all people everyday by inventing agriculture.

*************** THE REAL REASON WHY DARKWALLET IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR DRK ************

Darkwallet is only an option for when YOU make a payment to someone else.

You've got no control over what others use to send payments to YOU. It is the latter that is far more critical because in finance, people are far more private about their INCOME than their EXPENSES. There are lots of reasons for that other than just tax evasion:

 - people set up a payment address for donations and don't want the donating addresses revealed
 - retail product vendors who don't want the blockchain addresses of their customers made public
 - people who delegate their money management to others and want to make sure they don't use a transparent wallet for consolidating their accounts

Dark wallet is useless in all of these circumstances because it relies on the SENDER making sure they use an opaque wallet.

So once again:

Dark wallet is no use for INCOME (the thing we want to protect). It's only any use for EXPENDITURE and then only when YOU spend it.

There's also the fact that DarkWallet presently offers absolutely ZERO anonymity and they plan to implement coinshuffle, which is also not anonymous.  I've done a fair amount of research on what they can do and I believe coinjoin based implementations will always be broken on Bitcoin-based blockchains due to the fee structure. They just can't implement an appropriate solution due to the fact that each transaction would be huge and therefore super expensive.

@evan

Is there a way to link pre-paid debit cards with darkcoin wallets?

Control of the debit card is outside the network, so trusting someone has funds is too big a problem to overcome. But if you could create a payment process that could, in theory, keep track of the balance on the pre-paid debit card account, then you could enable darkcoin to act in a way similar to the way PayPal works with a bank account.

Each Darkcoin wallet is its own crypto bank account and linking it to a fiat pre-paid account would create a quasi coinbase solution but each person would have their own crypto <> fiat exchange mechanism.

??

edit

people hosting master nodes could act as liquidity providers in either direction (would need to consider master nodes and regulations).

It's early, but the latest Testnet version 0.11.1.17 seems to be working swimmingly after a reboot of Testnet...we may be nearing release! ...or maybe not.

It looks solid!

I finally managed to get my hands on one Raspberry Pi 2 and the first thing I did was:
Amazing!!
Good job!
We need hidden ip and we could use our IP as a masternode

Be careful.

I finally managed to get my hands on one Raspberry Pi 2 and the first thing I did was:

to put a testnet masternode up & running  Wink

This hardware is clearly enough for now  Cool

Be aware that this is just a PoC type of project, I don't have any knowledge about stability long term yet.

Quick reference:

Download Raspbian from the official site
http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

Follow the instructions to get it running on your Rpi 2.

Update the system
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Install the necessary libraries
Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
(this should be already present and updated)

sudo apt-get install libtool autotools-dev autoconf
sudo apt-get install libssl-dev

sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev

sudo apt-get install libdb-dev

sudo apt-get install libdb++-dev

sudo apt-get install libminiupnpc-dev

This will install libdb5.1. The version used in darcoind is 4.8 so the databases created with this binary will not be compatible with the official binaries but it works just fine.

Then get the source and build

Code:
git clone https://github.com/darkcoin/darkcoin.git -b v0.11.1.x

cd darkcoin

./autogen.sh
./configure --with-incompatible-bdb
make

After starting the build, go get some coffee outside, spend time with your family or go and do some other thing you like because it's going to take a while to finish...

Once the binaries are ready follow the instructions to get the masternode running.

Enjoy  Cool

Thanks a lot, I just ordered one, and I know there'll be so much to do that's fun with it, so I can't imagine leaving it on just to run a masternode or my asics, so ... yah, I need maybe 2 more?  Oh gosh, I didn't even have the money for the first one... need to find more junk to sell on ebay!  LOL

Nice one Tante
good to put a face to the stories
 Wink

Thank you, we're testing the waters, and it's going slowly, but we're gonna document it Wink

Thanks for the positivity guys, really appreciate it!! Cheesy

To the rest of the Darkcoin community:
Please leave some feedback so I can improve the "Darkcoin wallet on Windows" guide even further. Link can be found here: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/guide-for-darkcoin-wallet-windows-rev1-1-updated-06-february-2015.3881/

Next up:
Together with tungfa we're working on a new guide on "How to buy Darkcoins", still a work in progress! Smiley You guys can help us out by answering just a few simple questions: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/how-to-buy-drk-guide-tech-question.3892/

So behind on everything 'cause life is a bit insane at the moment, LOL.  In good ways.  But still, thanks for all the hard work, I'm taking a quick look at it now Cheesy  If I can, I'll give feedback!!

This. ^^ Period.  It's why btc grew and it'll be why the next well marketed anon altcoin will grow.

I worry about DRK missing the boat in this area.

*edit: Perfect application for DRK as I doubt Coinbase would even entertain the thought of you using their BTC for your legal weed.  http://cointelegraph.com/news/113437/bitcoin-friendly-cannabis-vending-machines-makes-historic-debut-in-seattle

Darkcoin is a tool.  People will use it if it does the best job.  It doesn't matter if we approve of it's use or not, and I don't see a reason to officially approve of illegal things.  It's irrelevant.  It can only hurt Darkcoin to sell itself to illegal trades and black markets when we want mainstream adoption.  The dollar is the currency of choice for illegal activities all over the world, but does the US government sell it's financial system on those grounds?  No, and yes they sell their financial system daily "safest, backed by us gov, most stable, etc..."

Major ammunition has just turned up for anyone needing to challenge the idea that cryptos are good for doing "bad stuff".

Turns out actually Fiat is far better for doing "bad stuff" cos you can get your friends in high places to launder your billions for you instead of pissing around trying to hide it in a blockchain.....
