Was The Instamine A Positive Thing For Dash?

https://dashdot.io/alpha/?page_id=118

TLDR: The instamine was a bug that turned into a feature, it's also why we're continuing to be a success.

OK, now that's grabbing the bull by the horns! Well done, sir...

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

yeah, i just finished reading it (i mistook it as a link to birth of darkcoin so i skipped it at first).
It contains a lot of new info and provides an interesting (and somewhat challenging) view on the events.

The fact that BTC hasn't gained widespread adoption by now is not a concern at all, if you look at a larger timeframe. Bitcoin, from a Dash perspective, is not very adoptable, due to its lack of fungibility and slow transaction speeds, not to mention a clear lack of direction.

Dash, given its intense organization and direction, coupled with a superior product, given a large enough timeframe, will refine and get the word out. It will overtake Bitcoin the rudderless ship at some point. Then it will just be a case of fine-tuning and maintaining.

It's really laughable the problems and infighting that Bitcoin has, that Dash, after only 1.5 years in existence, has solved already. We have the means to succeed where Bitcoin failed. We just need time, and I for one, consider this a long-term effort with lots of expected and unexpected ups and downs.

We will succeed.

This is a great post. The simplicity of the contrasts kind of blew me. But that's it - in a nutshell.

I dont understand why some people become obsessed about instamine. It was 1,5 years ago and i guess all of them had been distributed till now. Satoshi and Hal have millions bitcoin and these bitcoin are still there. It s not like a premine? Huh?  If you are not happy with instamine why do you use Bitcoin?
I think fudders cant find anything to attack on DASH so they perpetually revive this issue.

That's pretty much the point that article is making. The whole instamine is over blown because every coin that's even moderately successful has founders with >5%. Dash is on the low end, our founders have way less coins than the Bitcoin devs, Ripple, etc. Bitcoin for example was unknown with a handful of miners for nearly 1-2 years, they mined 6 million coins during that time. Satoshi alone was thought to have 10%. Our entire team combined has less than 10% of the supply (current supply, not total). So what?

So what?

It makes jelly butt hurt communists angry because no one should get more than they do "just because" of hard work, vision to invest, or luck.

Also people tend to "invest" into number of new and cheap coins in the hopes of some of them taking off. And when they lose their monies and someone else bets on the winning horse all sorts of emotions will surface.

I sincerely don't think that is the case right now. In the past, trolls where exactly that. This is a new mutated genotype expresses it's phenotype in exchange for money.

Think about it, in Evan's own words. We've had dozens of trolls. They all perished. Why? No incentive. They attained nothing, except trying to purge their frustration onto us.

This new breed is relentless. They actually "work" hard. They must have an incentive. Someone is paying these fools to keep nagging us. Otherwise they're seriously sociopathic obsessive compulsive beings, but even so, the way they come in waves... makes no sense. This is clearly a concerted effort.

And what a majestic fail, may I add.

these trolls also have the tendency to constantly create new troll-accounts or use several accounts per person, giving the impression of a lot of trolls while in reality its just 2 or 3 trolls.

Q: What do you mean by “The lower emission rate caused by the instamine benefits all involved in the currency?”

Evan Duffield:“The emission rate is the amount of coins that’s currently being generated by the network. Before the block 4500 bug, we were generating nearly 2M coins per day. That is excessive and would have destroyed the coin in no time, so intervening was absolutely necessary. If I had not intervened, the project would surely be dead.
The counter-intuitive part is that because of the high emission rate early on, our coin was distributed to more people faster than it would have been otherwise. Because of the lower inflation rates (compares to other distribution models), we have a better environment for investment. This is good for everyone involved in Dash.“

Translation of bolded part: "Coins were distributed faster to a early few for a lot less cost and time because of the 'bug'."
