1. What is the ROI on masternodes if there are 500 masternodes? 50% annual ROI in Drks.

2. Why is drk fundamentally more valuable than ltc? Drk offers decentralisation against ASICS + a decentralised privacy solution.

3. What gave ltc value versus btc in the first place? Ltc value increased primarily due to ASIC centralisation in Btc into large data mining centres, which increased the risk that Gov'ts could take over these data centres and co-opt the bitcoin protocol

4. Why is decentralised privacy via masternodes better than ring signatures? Because ring signatures produce highly bloated blockchains.

If you cannot answer those question, you do not know the value of what you are holding.

Answers above.

Your answers are junk.

1. You aren't considering hosting costs, DDoS protection, etc...

2. All 11 algorithms in DarkCoin already have FPGA implementations (this was a requirement for the sha3 competitions).  It is extremely likely that this coin was being mined with ASIC equipment or FPGAs from the start.  X11 is not memory-hard, which is a fundamental element in resisting ASIC adoption.  FPGA implementations (again, they already exist), will offer large advantages over GPUs. Furthermore, having a build-in (and it is NOT decentralized) privacy solution simply makes the coin a glowing target for law enforcement - building a p2p mixing solution on top of solid existing networks like Bitcoin or Litecoin makes a lot more sense (and will almost certainly be the preferred solution eventually).

3. Every good system needs a similar backup (Visa, Mastercard).  Litecoin is this same-minded, similar backup for bitcoin - nothing crazy, just a different set of equipment backing the network.

4. This is a poor argument.  The bitcoin blockchain is huge - hasn't stopped bitcoin yes... and ring signature bloat is fairly minimal.

So what's the impetus to get us out of this transition phase to a mass-effect 'buy buy buy' and 'spread like wildfire' phase?
Masternode payments successfully working is my guess.
If those succeed I am expecting a prolonged rally due to the ostrich-bitcoiners getting their heads out their asses and allocating chunks of their BTC portfolios into DRK MN's. And a rise in DRK price would get the general media attention (get ready for interviews, Evan) which again gets more people and merchants curious and we continue taking off.

Didn't know there was already someone offering shares of masternodes already:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=626715.0

It is even suggested as an alternative to mining bitcoin.

This will no doubt help a) the network, and b) getting more people to take part in darkcoin.

I think it's pretty clear now that this is a transitionary phase for DRK.
Mining-wise: we've been ridiculously unprofitable for little and medium-sized rigs now some time now and yet price has gone up or sideways and difficulty still remains high.

Technology-wise: there are no credible 'anonymity' competitors as of now. And if MN payments work, we're golden and will likely become the standard pretty much immediately.

Knowledge-wise: the majority of the crypto world, including Bitcoiners, should now know what Darkcoin is, or at least should hear more about it in the short-term after MN payments are implemented. Many, who haven't done their homework have brushed DRK aside however those who have done their due diligence are buying. Evidence: there was hardly a 'sell the news' effect from Bitfinex. Furthermore we remain in this upward channel from a week ago.

So what's the impetus to get us out of this transition phase to a mass-effect 'buy buy buy' and 'spread like wildfire' phase?

Pessimistically, optimistically speaking, to the moon.

With all respect, we shouldn't use the phrase "to the moon". It sounds childish, leave that to the BC holders.

Yeah, you're probably right. But I'm just a random person on the internet, doing random things.  However, I have been saying it for a few months and it's been somewhat true, if not prophetic - for once.

I will reflect on your point of view though... noom eht ot

Also, few rookie question regarding master nodes (MNs)...

1.
Are they enabled and necessary in production release - with current binaries? Yes they are enabled and working in production right now, mixing transactions for Darksend. They are not getting paid though as that requires a hard fork that will be implemented mid June[

2.
Can user with 1000 DRKs become a MN now on real network (not testnet)? Yes you can, in fact you could do that to get a feel for it. Just keep in mind that you will need to update soon when the version with masternode payments activated is released.

3.
Is there some advantage for user to do this now (before profit sharing to MNs - is this proper way to name this?)? The advantage is getting a feel for the process and hardening your server, you could leave it without a wallet for the time being. Or if you are experienced with the technology and are confident of being able to setup quick when the new version comes out then you can wait.

4.
Are MNs something that currently only works (because of recent problems/fork/debugging) on testnet? No they work on mainnet, the issue was implementing the payments. Masternode have been working for weeks.

If yes - and if user wants to assist development - do you connect to testnet and setup a MN there with real DRKs, or how does that work? No. No real DRKs you get test darks that people get from mining on testnet, but it will be easy just to request for somebody to send you 1000 test drks to your testnet address which is different than the addresses on mainnet, and dont start with an x

thanks for helping me understand,
cheers,
Wg

Can someone shed light on these questions?

Appreciated!

This was a good post

(5 drk/block x 576 blocks/day x 0.2 = 576 DRK / 500 MN = 1.152 DRK/day x 365 = 420.48 DRK/year x 15USD = 6307.2 USD/Year

What other developments are there for DRK? I've been watching the charts and it seems pretty quiet for DRK. Then all of the sudden the trade volume is #1 on Mintpal. Does anyone know what's causing this or is it just residual effects from the recent media attention on DRK? It kinda sucks because I bought in a lot during the crashing phase.

You bought in the crash?  That's good!

Um... ok, for now, we know that on June 14th in mid June we will do another hard fork to implement masternode payments.  This is a big deal, and then, I believe mid-July we will have the implementation of "something secret" which will make darkcoin virtually 100% anonymous.  Evan has kept any details from us, and the implementation has been postponed due to the hiccup last week.

So we're getting really close to open source!  Just need to finish those two main things, make sure everything is functioning well, and then have the code vetted.  Once that is finished, DarkSend is supposed to go open source!  BTW, the enhanced anonymity is not ring signatures, and will not bloat the blockchain (from evan)

Sadly so few people understand just how thoroughly El-chaeplin is destroying XC's credibility. It clearly goes over the heads of the poor numpties supporting it.

Frankly I'm glad he's on our side... Wink

And to the person who sold his DRK because of the, "I work for the government, we have penetrated the minds of halfwits, my consciousness is now clear..." thing, thanks, I nearly wet myself laughing.  Grin

You're absolutely right! I read the uncencored xc thread only to be humbled by the way cheaplin replies to the XC dudes or trolls with such calm, but also with an energy to test the claims and continue the debate just to clear darks name. With that in mind + the work I've heard that he'd done for the dev-team, I'll take my hat off for him fou shou! Salute to you sire!

Hi guys

I am new in darkcoin world... Following this debate for some days now, but indeed, I do not know how to answer these questions from adaseb below...
So, I think it would be benefitial to all (especially newcomers), if we can answer them ... So, can you please help me find the answers for them, and I would encourage every answer to be backed with a fact (or link to fact)... This way, we can put some never-ending debates and speculation to an end.

Also, if I get help in producing quality answers, I will do a periodic follow up, putting together new facts... I believe that not a lot of users have time to read thru new 20+ pages of this thread every day, so I'll try to do a summary of vital stuff...

cheers,
Wg

It's got to break one way or the other pretty soon.
One address has accumulated 12% of darks. That means whoever it is, will be determined to protect the value of his asset. Could be exchange or single individual. This is like China holding $3.8 Trillion in USDs/USTs. http://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-darkcoin-addresses.html
