Depending on how many MNs are setup, the supply of darks can be very much controlled and the price maintained. See NXT for example, they can increase valuations using very little capital (less than $1 Mill), because none of their keyplayers are selling. In comparison, Drk holders have been coughing up heaps of Drks onto the market. Once the weak players are flushed out, we should see an improvement in Drk's price.

I'm surprised the price has been more affected by the rumors before it was added on Bitfinex, than now it is actually on there..? What's going on?

Likely people are just following the old adage "buy the rumor, sell the news". Considering the coin's value has increased 2x in the last week, I would say things are just fine.

When, it, finished Please wait Thank You Edit: Maybe that was a bit mean. The current plan is to release the source in July or early August. Things were delayed about a month because of the masternode payment forking issue.

I think it's pretty clear now that this is a transitionary phase for DRK. Mining-wise: we've been ridiculously unprofitable for little and medium-sized rigs now some time now and yet price has gone up or sideways and difficulty still remains high.
Technology-wise: there are no credible 'anonymity' competitors as of now. And if MN payments work, we're golden and will likely become the standard pretty much immediately.
Knowledge-wise: the majority of the crypto world, including Bitcoiners, should now know what Darkcoin is, or at least should hear more about it in the short-term after MN payments are implemented. Many, who haven't done their homework have brushed DRK aside however those who have done their due diligence are buying. Evidence: there was hardly a 'sell the news' effect from Bitfinex. Furthermore we remain in this upward channel from a week ago.
So what's the impetus to get us out of this transition phase to a mass-effect 'buy buy buy' and 'spread like wildfire' phase? Masternode payments successfully working is my guess. If those succeed I am expecting a prolonged rally due to the ostrich-bitcoiners getting their heads out their asses and allocating chunks of their BTC portfolios into DRK MN's. And a rise in DRK price would get the general media attention (get ready for interviews, Evan) which again gets more people and merchants curious and we continue taking off.

Hey JL, I've been reading your comments in this and some other threads too. If you dont mind sharing, just wondering what do you do for a living and what's your interests in cryptos? as in your investment portfolio?

nice one! but i dont expect us to go over 240 anytime soon. the 14th deadline is coming and after the last desaster the market wants to see a working RC3/hard fork before gettin serious.
Isn't the next fork just scheduled for "mid June" now, rather than specifically the 14th? If so we shouldn't keep saying the 14th, or it'll look bad if it's not out by then. Especially, we don't want to create any pressure on the devs to release on that date if it isn't ready. Not unless we want to spend months reading "FORKCOIN!! (FRK)" posts accompanied by various images of Darth Vadar wielding pronged cutlery.

It will be firmed up as circumstances dictate and development progresses.

Noticed an incredibly positive trend in the Darkcoin Top 100 rich list. Over 64% of coins are being held by these addresses, that's over $36 million dollars in cash. But most importantly, all of these addresses keep adding more coins! That's the equivalent of Google's or Microsoft's top executives loading up on company stock on the NASDAQ instead of selling off their granted stock options on the open market to cash in. One whale alone went on a massive buying spree: http://www.bitanalyst.com/whale-accumulates-12-of-darkcoins-in-8-days/Here's the top 100 list, check out the inflows versus out: http://chainz.cryptoid.info/drk/#!rich Loading up while I still can, party for all thread posters when I get my new island! Even inviting all the XC/MRO bag holders.

I'm a lowly holder with just under 100 still, am trying to continue to stock up while at around 0.02

funny all these x11anon clonecoins just waiting like hienas to eat the code... NO ,open Source Code, drK,suspect foul play of some kind? Darkcoin IS open source. You can compile it yourself. However, the version of the wallet with DarkSend in it is NOT opensourced and won't be until it is completed and vetted. Until then, you don't need to use the closed source version, you're welcome to compile the regular wallet yourself. DarkSend, however, is usable up to 9.99 coins at the moment, soon to go up to 1000 coins. But if you want to use this Release Candidate version, you must trust the closed source until it is completed and vetted.
