I think it's pretty clear now that this is a transitionary phase for DRK.
Mining-wise: we've been ridiculously unprofitable for little and medium-sized rigs now some time now and yet price has gone up or sideways and difficulty still remains high.

Technology-wise: there are no credible 'anonymity' competitors as of now. And if MN payments work, we're golden and will likely become the standard pretty much immediately.

Knowledge-wise: the majority of the crypto world, including Bitcoiners, should now know what Darkcoin is, or at least should hear more about it in the short-term after MN payments are implemented. Many, who haven't done their homework have brushed DRK aside however those who have done their due diligence are buying. Evidence: there was hardly a 'sell the news' effect from Bitfinex. Furthermore we remain in this upward channel from a week ago.

So what's the impetus to get us out of this transition phase to a mass-effect 'buy buy buy' and 'spread like wildfire' phase?
Masternode payments successfully working is my guess.
If those succeed I am expecting a prolonged rally due to the ostrich-bitcoiners getting their heads out their asses and allocating chunks of their BTC portfolios into DRK MN's. And a rise in DRK price would get the general media attention (get ready for interviews, Evan) which again gets more people and merchants curious and we continue taking off.

JL

Frankly, with all due respect, you're thinking is a bit myopic. I think the major impetus will be the RC4 enhanced anonymity features, and to a far greater extent open sourcing.  A lot of people care about masternodes, sure, but let's be honest - at this point they're 1. already out of reach to the masses and 2. a bit too ethereal a concept for the masses anyway.

But unfettered anonymity is something that most everyone understands, and denominated DRK is something that everybody can access and use.  As with BTC, the driver will be "dark" market adoption - and that won't happen until we're open source (unless they're just total idiots).  That will spur a rally, which will drive legitimate investment, mainstream visibility and (hopefully) mainstream adoption.

Course that's just me playing seer  Grin.

Hey JL, I've been reading your comments in this and some other threads too. If you dont mind sharing, just wondering what do you do for a living and what's your interests in cryptos? as in your investment portfolio?
In the investment biz. Been through the first, second and third internet bubbles, emerging market bubble, housing bubble, worst economic collapse since Great Depression and survived all that and learned a shitload. Couple years ago I created an investment allocating model which cares only about price, kicks ass but trades infrequently, which has left me bored but allowed me to pursue new intellectual hobbies: aviation and cryptos.
I've been watching Bitcoin for years. Started finally mining Doge in January, and got caught in the Mint, Aurora and Myriad bubbles before taking a breather with Air and then finally made back everything lost and then some from Black but saw that Dark was about to finally get the attention it deserved in mid-late April and moved 90% into it. After that recent .0099 dip I'm now 100% in DRK and see nothing else (yet) worth getting into.

I'd also like to add something I keep forgetting to mention is that the fact that Evan is not anonymous andvhas investment background history will make his story that much sweeter to Wall Street. Wall Street kinda 'gets' Satoshi and Bitcoin but it doesn't help Bitcoins credibility with Main Street that the developer was anonymous and disappeared a couple years ago. From a Main Street sales point of view it's easier to point to a picture of Evan and say he created Darkcoin and oh by the way his product will keep your family and friends from seeing your crypto checkbook versus pointing to "Satoshi: anonymous Bitcoin developer who disappeared years ago oh and by the way if you show family/friends your address they can see everything you've ever purchased".
JL

I am so happy to see some calm come to the trading charts.

The buy-and-sell on every up-and-down day traders have been moving the price too much too often for my tastes, and I would welcome a day or two of calm for everyone to get their wits about them.

They're losing a ton of commissions to mintpal and bitfinex it they don't.  As a business, you just cannot afford to do that.

The coin has gone up 100% in a week. 100%! So why can't it retrace a few percent?

It's consolidation. Don't worry about the minute charts ; look at the 12h mintpal chart on bitcoinwisdom for example. Zooming out increases calm.

You are a master.
I think the price in the next week to continue rising!
