Anonymity cannot work without DarkSend being enabled at all times, there is no way around this. I hit ignore on this ignorant troll.

Suppose 1 million people use the darksend feature and only two people have it disabled.
I don't get how the million people will have LESS privacy if a few people walk around "naked".
Ofcourse the "naked" guys will not associate with the dark ones, and they will mutually shun each other. Naturally, but there is truly no reason why everybody should be forced to wear clothes.

I fail to see your point, if we use your example DarkSend permits on the contrary to protect your privacy. It's like saying "I don't like cash because I'm forced to be anonymous".

The reason they can't co-exist is because a transaction consists of two parties, not 1 and those parties might have conflicting interests.

For example, lets say I'm a retailer accepting Bitcoin for a certain clothing line that's highly competitive. I am rapidly gaining marketshare due to a new innovation I launched but I don't want to draw my competitors attention to this by "poping up on their radar" and allowing them to measure my income.

If only some of my customers transactions are opaque then thats enough for my competitors to notice a "trend" because they will be able to measure an increase in my company's relative revenue, even though they can't determine my absolute revenue.

On the other hand, when trading within a fully "dark" network, I would enjoy a comparable level of commercial privacy as is currently offered by today's fiat system. My competitors would not be able to determine any significant knowledge about my income until I filed annual accounts with state / national tax authorities.

hi guys, i got a thought rrecently and was wondering if possible. i recently heard of a new idea called p.o.b (proof of bandwidth) i was thinking would there be a way to create a pool that uses and passes on users bandwidth to websites and other services in return for some cash or btc, this cash/btc could be used by the p.o.b pool operators to buy....drk ;-) and then give the drk to the pob pool users. maybe its far fecthed , but it would be another way to bring cash into drk and help people gain drk who dont have mining power or lots of money to buy a mn.

Still early. Privacy will be necessary. Killer app is like a pay wave kinda solution. i.e. Using bitcoin anywhere without even thinking about it; and saves you transaction fees or gives you discounts while using it. This app will be usable anywhere in the world without exchanging forex.

If this shouldn't be possible in the future anymore (although I had the impression that until now (testphase etc) IT WAS possible to have both systems coexist) than I only hope that before dark send becomes mandatory it also becomes fully open source, or else I quit.

I admit that I have not yet set up a masternode, so maybe that's were my ignorance stems from. If a completely functioning masternode system needs the participation of every node (wallet), then I am ok with that, but only if it becomes fully open sourced.

The coercion arguement is a straw man.  I'm sure that once everything is done you will just plug in an addy and click send as normal.  No steps, no hoops, nothing
forcing you to click that evil darksend button.  Your transaction happens, and it's automatically difficult to trace.  Anyone who yells "BUT BUT BUT I WANT PEOPLE
TO SEE WHAT I'M DOING!"  is just an asshat that wants to find something to complain about.

This is a good point. Doing this before Dark Wallet does their distributed node thing is highly advisable. You want to entrench Darkcoin as THE privacy solution for digital currencies before alternatives pop up.

Several members have knowledge of technical aspects but obviously Evan can explain the finer details. If you had any questions, feel free to post them so all of us can participate and educate each other  I miss the days when AnonyMint and others were hashing out some of the early framework/architecture through open dialogues.

With the advent of the masternode payments system there was no need to pay the masternodes from the collateral transactions, so they're made out to the bounty fund. If a masternode wants to be evil and cash them, the best they can do is support the coin by funding the bounty fund (plus we control that wallet, so it's reversible).

Unfortunately, Cryptcoin devoured Darkcoin in anyway. As I can see the price is plunging with everyday, even though there are good news, greater payment of masternode and more new projects to come. I don`t want to be a pessimist, but as we can see most of the people gave up   Zero volume in Mintpal for the past 10-20 minutes...

I have NEVER seen anything from the dev team implying that people will be forced to use Darksend while it is still closed. The entire conversation of "should Darksend be on by default and how easy it should it be to turn off" has always been something that has been discussed in conjunction with the full release (i.e. once Darksend is open-sourced).
