I realize that the system has similarities.  What I believe is novel is the (snipped) "nomination" system based on the hash of the block, the need for the nominated MNs to respond with blockchain-writable transactions within 2 blocks of being nominated, and the deterministic picking of a "winner" based on the responding MNs.  This negates the need to maintain an off-blockchain "list" of active MNs, which I believe is what caused the forking problems in previous releases, where some nodes were rejecting blocks off of a belief that the MN receiving payment was not a valid MN, for whatever reason.  You can see this in all the questions about "is my MN appearing ok?"  It should not be possible for one person's list of active MNs to be different than another person's, yet I believe that this is what we still have today.  "I'm seeing 850 active MNs but Joe sees 842" is a very difficult problem to solve, so my proposal moves all MN "activeness" into the blockchain where it becomes indisputable.

When MN payments were first introduced, forking occurred as the network propagation process could take longer than the blocktime. Since then the inter-MN comms are *much* faster.

If I see 850 active MNs, you and Joe also see 850, any change is propagated within seconds at most. There will always be fringe cases, but that's what the voting system across multiple blocks is is for.

It's critical for future services that MN's maintain comms discrete from the slow blocktime.

I agree, but I don't think it's critical that they do so for payment (at least % of block reward payment) reasons.
The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Monero has today passed DarkCoin in Price/Coin for the first time.

So it has.

The only reason it hasn't surpassed DRK in market cap is the slightly lower coin supply.

Why the hell are people still comparing coin prices with different coin supply? Seriously, if that's the case, 42 coin or some other ridiculously small coin supply has well surpassed BTC... oh wait, it hasn't... because it's a stupid fucking comparison. Pull your heads out of your asses people.

Can anyone explain to me what has happened to about 10 pages of this thread? I went to bed last night with this post #59600 from MangledBlue on page 2980 (in response to masternode's overview of his background and crypto involvement):

It's a pleasure to meet you. If I can help in any way, big or small, I surely will :-)

...and this morning I've hit refresh on that page only to have it go back to page 2970 and #59381 and I can't find that previous post of Mangled. What's appearing on this page is all new (i.e. I'm not reading the previous posts I've already read) but what happened to the numbering?

confused!

I guess this relates to the BCT moderators deleting posts? A extraordinary number seem to have gone though. I've just checked back through my browser tabs from yesterday that haven't yet been refreshed. This post from thelonecrouton was at #59595 on page 2980

It's now post #59308 on page 2966. That means a total of 287 posts have disappeared! Good grief.

All that talk about beer in Spain earlier has got me on the San Miguel  Grin

Actually, it's just helped me figure out that once DarkTor or xyzTor like service is announced as a plan, there is no reason why we can't launch a kick-starter fundraiser to get another 500 - 1,000 master nodes up - they will have a revenue flow.

We can ask people around here to set them up and manage them.

I've got a chap that does consulting work for me who can do the application or put up the details (I would have to ask him first).

When the price goes up, people can buy them out, or more likely people can liquidate their Master Nodes as others join in. Simples  Grin

Hell - at that rate we should have hit 3000 pages already - that's crazy - ugh

Yes. And I searched on your text, your original post is definitely gone, only the recreation in my post is showing up in search results. This forum is either seriously flaky, the BCT moderators are just deleting stuff at random (and there was absolutely nothing in your post that would have even remotely warranted it being deleted) or a combination of both.

DRK at 0.0047 do you think this coin has any future? And with all the other threads giving the proofs of scams. This is just more coin killing the trust of investors in the alternates.

The lower the price, the better the gain prospect. That's how it goes. When the price was high, haters were bitching on how it is so overpriced and pumped and that's why they wouldn't buy. When the price is low "it doesn't have a future"... When the price was ultra-low (0.001x), people were criticizing "price stability" and claiming it was a reason to dump, lol.

So whether you are going up, down or sideways there's always someone to say something.

As for the price of Monero vs DRK, from the perspective of DRK, it is in DRK's best interest for Monero's price to be as high as possible so that Monero investors are sucked dry of their BTCs / USDs and when they are dried up they'll have nothing more to throw at it and it'll all crumble due to inflation.

Monero is a highly inflationary coin so high unit price + high inflation = epic BTC drain just to sustain price. This is also the reason of why there is small potential of explosive growth (as this would require tremendous funds to be kept at a sustainable level every day). Some Monero investors understand it and want to avoid a higher price. Some don't. It's as simple as that.

The current price is of little relevance. I believe the current low price reflects some lingering uncertainty. If Evan presents solid, working solutions the price will go up again. Time is of the essence, however. For Darkcoin to be the #1 privacy centric currency, we have to be running at 100% (enforced, provably random masternode payments, no bugs, user friendly DS+) prior to Monero achieving their own version of user friendliness. It seems that the Monero GUI won't be here for at least a month, so there is still time for either coin to succeed. Alternatively, both coins could find some measure of success.

LoL that is so true, people will complain regardless of what the price is.

Scamero just feels waaay too overdone, even if you don't look at the bloatware or ridiculous inflation, there are just too many shills and pump threads around for it to be genuine...

You forget the fact that Monero has ZERO infrastructure and services support based on a completely new API re-write. Darkcoin is backed by the Bitcoin API so integration and adoption is 1000x easier and more likely to occur. If bitcoin is still having trouble getting mainstream adoption why would businesses even think about adopting a completely different API that's unheard of and untested. Doesn't matter if a GUI is done for Monero, they still need 1-2 years at minimum to build that infrastructure & services support base.

Secondly as stated many times over Monero is a high inflation currency - at the moment the BTC required to prop the current price up is high.

Thirdly they have serious scalability and bloat issues that at current rates of growth it will become unusable or require a centralised block chain hosting service or their database optimisation that they have been working on to which have not produced any results to date.

Fourthly if/when a GUI is released will it be stable, will it be easy to use, will there be bugs/exploits etc...

Thats a huge amount of issues to overcome when Darkcoin just needs to optimise/open source and begin marketing Smiley

Oh hey - Does anybody know how many "Instances" you can run under the AWS free tier, namely, the number of MN's and still be in the "FREE ZONE"?

I don't use amazon now but last time it was something like 720 hours per month -> 1 instance

EDIT: 750 hours http://aws.amazon.com/free/

Sorry for going off topic.

When it first came out on Polo and the TrollBox was inundated with XMR shills to a level I had never seen before, a few people who resisted the jihad calmly pointed out how much it was getting slammed by massive cpu farms.

Of course there is room for more than 1 anon currency in the market, XMR are just feeling the pinch of hiring too many shills, the community pushes back when they are being force fed too much bullshit.
