Why do I get the feeling that you three are in cahoots to manipulate the market?  Thou doth complaineth too much

There have been a lot of new accounts signing up to proclaim totally honest frustration at the unstoppable decline of the price of Darkcoin and the futility of trying to fight the mighty coins above DRK in market cap in the last few days.

Trolls and hired goons are back again  Grin

yah yah yah, wish I had that kind of money to buy into Darkcoin!

Look, Darkcoin is not only the one coin that has actually been improved multifold, we are also very conservative, especially in the marketing department.  We didn't want to be loud until the source was opened and worked.  I suspect, but do not know, that Evan wants the fork to happen before we get too loud because ... well, if anything happens, even a little thing that causes people to panic, then it will be worse for our market.  Instead, I think we're going to fork, the dust will settle, and finally the marketing campaign will begin.  So far... give me a break, we've only done press releases.  That's nothing!  Especially with the other 1001 coins doing press releases every other day each.

IMO, press releases are fair warning.

Am I missing something here?

I think it's time to face reality... Darkcoin seems unable to break out of a small core group of believers. Something obviously needs to give

I see it just the opposite. Now is the point in time when the adoption can actually start. It has all been just speculation up until now.

+101

Speculation to a point. Investing, is more representative.

These are my views on targeting specific areas (wrote them many months ago, so may need updating):

-----

While regulators focus on establishing rules that they feel comfortable with, the opportunities for crypto currency use over the short to medium-term remains around those areas of trade that court anonymity the most, taking into account the existing demographic of crypto coin users:

* Porn - Those that are thinking of using Bitcoin to pay for porn, the driving factor for internet adoption and innovation since the late 1990s, will be concerned when the media begin to talk about the lack of privacy and anonymity that bitcoin has. Anonymity payment tools are more suited to porn use than Bitcoin.

* Sex Workers - Those looking to legally pay for sex and companionship would potentially welcome a privacy centric electronic payment method enabling them to keep transactions off credit cards and off the radar of any spouses.  In addition, sex workers and porn stars are increasingly being denied banking facilities for unexplained reasons and because of this denial of access to the banking system payment tools such as Darkcoin assist both the customer and the vendor.

* Legal Fire Arms - As it is legal to pay for licensed firearms with cash with accompanying ID, using eCash could be even more convenient, including the ability to enable advance payments and deposits to be paid and large transactions to be conducted without the accompanying personal risks of carrying physical cash.

* Tax Avoidance Subject to seeking professional assistance, there could be benefits from using Darkcoin to avoid any unnecessary tax payments. However, careful tax planning is required to ensure that tax avoidance, which is legal, does not unwittingly lead to tax evasion which is generally illegal. For example, redeeming value to fiat in a tax free country or jurisdiction is a planning option that is open to some who can transfer their material place of residence to benefit from tax exempt status.

* Oppression As pointed out by the Bitcoin Foundation Chairman, using privacy tools can be of value to those living in controlled States or under oppressive financial circumstances.

* Drugs Soft drugs such as marijuana are not universally banned or illegal in every country or jurisdiction. With vendors having difficulties with securing bank accounts and having to deal in cash, eCash offers a more secure middle ground option for vendors and a safe way for purchasers to buy legal drugs without fear of being stigmatized. Where it is legal to do so, eCash may also enable internet and mail orders for those merchants that cannot access banking facilities where banks withhold services without proper justification.

While there is a desire to move into ordinary financial transactions, the initial adoption phase will likely involve some or all of these sectors. The transition to mainstream eCash needs to be weighed up with pragmatic short-term cash flow and brand building needs in mind.

* Beating corruption Charitable giving is made significantly easier with digital currencies. Projects all around the world can be easily supported with just a few clicks. Governments too may find that sending digital cash aide direct to the source needing funding might be easier and less prone to skimming by corrupt administrators. Using technology such as Darkcoin, such charity or government assistance would be untraceable and would avoid putting local people at risk of reprisals from corrupt officials missing out on their skim.

-------

The fact that ASIA / China accounts for over 70% of BTC at the moment, probably 80% of LTC, means the initial focus is either on getting some traction in the market, or focusing on dividing the market to East = BTC/LTC, and West = DRK.

A really good market that bridges East and West is online gaming which is why I did some research on it for gaming operators.

A coin that literally ripped off a ripoff (litecoin) and slapped a fucking dog face on it is seeing more attention than dark. Are people in general just that fucking stupid? Jesus christ. I did a lot of research on all the alts and settled on this one because it actually has useful features and a great dev. What do I get for it? Thousands in losses. Fuck me sideways.

LOL, I never saw the second topic title in March... that shit is funny. It's basically an advertisement that the miner (that you created) for X11 (also of your own creation) sucks so badly that it uses about half the available capabilities of a GPU, if you assume the then-current Scrypt GPU implementation used 100%. Since that's unlikely, you're actually broadcasting to everyone that you did so badly creating a miner for your own PoW that you managed to use LESS than half the compute capability of your target hardware!

... Come to think of it, that's so bad you have to wonder if it wasn't intentional. After all, that's on the level of being unable to walk and talk at the same time.

Actually it came to pass that it was the switching from algo to algo that was slowing down the use of the processors and keeping the system cool.  There have been improvements to the miner, but I was there, and Evan was cranking out updates and improvements so fast, I am certain he didn't have time for the miner.  Besides, Evan started this as a passion.  He was rich, in finances, love and happiness well before he started this coin.  He never felt the need to hide who he was, why should he?

Something tells me you're jealous.

BTW, he's still rich in money, love and happiness because people that are honest, hard working and passionate are also happy and oft rewarded  Tongue Grin Cheesy Wink Tongue Kiss

I do have that kind of Money in fact look at Mintpal  .008 =], I wish people here would be a bit more sense and accept that there is a problem.

I don't doubt you have that kind of money.  My sister and all my in-laws have that kind of money.  I understand your frustration.  It doesn't sound like much, but I have monthly bills to pay, and every month since June, I was hoping I would get a good price on my coins so I wouldn't have to sell so many to make payments.  But every month the price is down.  I'm almost completely out of my extra coins, and only have the income of my 2 masternodes.  It would be enough if the darn coin would be worth something!  I expected it to be so much higher by this point.

But I was green (as probably everyone is) and didn't realize that my favorite coin would be subject to the manipulation you are talking about.  But I've learned since then.  It's going to be a really long road, IMO.  2 years might see some real adoption and real use, but it's more in the 5-10 year future where I see DRK becoming as important as Paypal.  At that point in time, the coins can not help but be worth a small fortune because the liquidity required to be useful.  Even Bitcoin is only 5 years old, and it had to beat down the path through the forest of nasties.  We get to use the rutted road they started and add the crushed rock and perhaps, if we keep up the excellent work, pave it with asphalt. (forget the concrete, that shit makes nothing but bumpy roads!).

Yah, it's useless to complain about price.  It's not going to get better for some time.  And it's not even important in the big scheme of things, though it is important to people who invested and need their money in the near term.  For that, I'd say, pull out next time there is a pump.  Just pull out, return to fiat, put it in the bank.  I'm sure there will be another pump in the not too distant future, then we'll come back down again, and if we're lucky, we'll have a new, higher support, which would be nice.  I'm finding other ways to pay my bills now (selling possessions, etc) because there is NO WAY I'll EVER sell my two masternodes.

Continuing my darkcoin community research...

...using the forum extraction tool I am developing...
...here is how the title of this [ANN] thread changed over time, starting from day 1: January 18, 2014 (When darkcoin wasn't even called darkcoin yet...  Grin) until today.

If this has any value for you, and if you like to see more, consider a donation to help me further develop my tools: XtAdMy5nSxArut6rKKLQXxm84rpJNipXib

What is the next thing you want to see?

1) Do you want to know who of all the darkcoin users swears the most (using words like f**k etc..) then vote by donating any amount to this address:
Xwz1utupG5LqWMsCeZqF3vo9xtiA7FXcjH

2) If you would like to see a word cloud of all the comments evan duffield ever made, vote by donating to this address:
Xn9b76yUZ5zGAcMvFv41ZSYn9XHMJpX833

(I will eventually fulfill both tasks if they reach 5 DRK each, otherwise just the one that has more DRK)

Have fun.

Maybe I have to explain how I extract those past ANN Thread titles, because there isn't really a database storing them, so I pretty much have to make "educated guesses".
What I do is, I read every post of every user, and since the ANN Thread title in that moment becomes also the title of each post, I can then derive based on how many users used a specific ANN Title, what the ANN title used to be that day.
The problem is, users can edit their post title, and every user who quotes this user will also aquire and repost their edited thread title.
So I tried to filter out all the obvious crap, and all the ANN titles in my list have been posted/quoted by atleast 50-100 people each time, but still, especially the ANN title that you mentioned could be a fake one.
(Meaning it was never put officialy on the ANN thread title by the admin)

EDIT: best thing to do is probably provide the RAW data I aquired. Then people can make their own assessment.
The list works like this, first number is amount of posts that have this ANN title, then the first time this title appeared in a post, then the title itself.
There are some hilarious one liners in there by obvious trolls, lol:

Why do I get the feeling that you three are in cahoots to manipulate the market?

If 3 random posts by a noob on a forum thread (or any amount of posts for that matter) are able to "manipulate" the Darkcoin market, then Darkcoin has way bigger problems than I ever imagined

Trolls and hired goons are back again  Grin

Could be, I suppose, but if it is fake, it's a pretty good fake one. It does sound like something that would be advertised by someone who lacks a clue on details of miners.

Are you saying that any algorithm and combination of algorithms can be parallelized and optimized to use 100% your GPU?

true words.

And yes, lucas, a few trolls can manipulate the market, it's so anemic.  But it doesn't matter, unless you want to get a good price on 20 dark, and they're playing games on the exchange.

I have a few on mintpal, which gets a big candle when 3 coins are bought, LOL, and am hoping for a better sale than is available now.  I hate selling my coins, but ... those bills call....

This is exactly the point I'm making.

It seems the only way a cryptocurrency can be successful is in one of the following scenarios:

1. People treat it like a game or joke, just to have fun and be "nice" with each other (the perfect example being Dogecoin)
2. Whales are able to manipulate the price for their benefit by day trading (this isn't really success as it's a fake price anyway)
3. The Chinese get involved

The truth is no cryptocurrency has even come remotely close to the adoption and usage that Bitcoin has... Hundreds of millions (quite literally) put into businesses and infrastructure to support wider adoption. And take a look at what's happened with the BTC price for the last 9 months.

Kinda makes you wonder huh...

Please relax!  Nobody is dumping!  Look at the trades, they're so small!  Some people like myself, have to sell a few.  Then we either take whatever is offered or hope for better.  It's the marketplace, it needs to be functioning and it can't function, and nobody would be able to buy if someone wasn't selling.

I honestly think your view might be a little too myopic.  When the buying pressure comes, and it will, those small low offers will be eaten up immediately, and the price will go up fast.  The bots can keep the price down only on low volume.  So please don't stress so much!  I swear I can see steam coming out of your ears and I worry you'll blow up!

Put it this way, if DRK doesnt make it then you can absolutely forget about the entire alt-coin scene and any other investments you have made in it.
Indeed, there is no other altcoin so advanced and active.

BE SMART, USE DASH ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
