I just read the thread on darkcoin talk. Here's a gem,

"What really needs to happen is have a centralized service like coinbase launch that allows people to store their darkcoins on it for a percentage of a MN. Lets call this website "MasternodeShares".

    and another

"I agree, why not just get rid of "mining" altogether and have the MNs secure the network? "

So you guys want to centralize the network, and fuck the miners who got the coin this far, just to enrich the core group of node holders? If this is the current strategy it is no wonder the coin is tanking.

Forming a private cartel for your own self interest. I would dump my coins the second any of this shit was even entertained by Evan.

Thanks for quoting me. (the first part)

    Here's my reasoning:
    • Not everyone has 1000 darkcoin to create a MN.
    • Not everyone knows or wants to learn how to run a MN.

If the issue is that there are too few MN's to be optimal, lowering the barrier by having a service offer shares for MN's is a good thing.

It increases the number of nodes on the network, earns interest for the share owners, and locks the coins away creating a deflation.

The risk is by having the actual centralization of the coins for the service but that would be no greater than Mintpal or even Cryptsy as it is now.

The benefits to it is that it doesn't lower the MN cost and attracts smaller fish into the economy. All in all, I think it's a good thing.

For the second quote, PoW should definitely remain in play IMO. The MN's already earn mining rewards, I see no reason to also have them receiving PoS rewards as well. [/list]

I've got no problem with mining collectives as you state, but removing pow, is completely ridiculous. Proof of work is the defining feature that separates crypto from fiat.

See how well transactions are relayed without them.
With InstantX the transactions are going to be processed by the MN network anyway, and instantly. So... yeah...

Edit: Hey man, I know it's controversial. Just take a deep breath buddy

It's not controversial, its plain god damn greed and nothing but. If I want some dark now I can solo mine with my farm. You would prefer I go through a gated system, how is this different that the banking network?

Are the MN's processing the blocks now? No, the miners run the show, and will for the near future. See what happens when you tell 80% of network, oh btw fuck you guys.

So why do you mine coins? Is it out of the good of your heart? All I'm saying is DRK is in a unique position to let the old antiquated and inefficient ways die. Circle of life man.

Old and antiquated....you must be 20 if you think a 5 year old, infant technology is old and antiquated.

    Listen, man,
I mine because its open to everyone, big or small, your 'idea' is not. Its more of the same. Collect as much as you can for yourself and then spoil the rest for everyone else.

Dark is open source now, go ahead and fork it, setup your pos system with 5000 nodes, problem solved.

Just for clarity, the country that is owed a lot of gravy in the EU is Germany.  If things keep going the way they are, the USA will be owing Germany some gravy too.

But the cupboard is apparently bare: http://nsnbc.me/2013/04/18/federal-reserve-refuses-to-submit-to-an-audit-of-germanys-gold-held-in-u-s-vaults-2/

I knew about the fact that nobody has been allowed to audit the gold in Fort Knox, but I never read about the US stealing gold from other countries (which I don't doubt, give enough power to anybody, and they will abuse it) and the fact that they won't give the Germans their gold, nor even see it is just shocking to me!  I'm still very green and can't seem to shrug a level of trust for my government.  When this happens, I'm quite dismayed at myself.  I should know better but those values instilled as a child........... hard to shirk!

There's probably some truth to the story, but if you check the homepage that's looks like a blatant Russian propaganda site.

Sorry about that. I explained in an earlier post that I had just grabbed an arbitrary version of the story from a bunch of Google results, but I should probably have chosen more carefully. It would be best if people do their own search, then read versions they trust (if any). I just used "german gold return delay" for my Google search and went from there.

Here is a version from zerohedge: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-12-24/year-later-bundesbank-has-repatriated-only-37-tons-gold-700-total

The story seems fairly consistent, regardless of source, and it is a while since I first read about it so I can not remember my original sources.

The ideas I see amount to forming a private cartel for the dozen or so vocal members of the community, fundamentally changing the way a coin works to the detriment of the general user and betraying the philosophical principals of crypto in general.

And I see a bunch of people, who should be ashamed of themselves, agreeing with it.

Ad *hominem and false. The reason it is "old and antiquated" is because it is possibly not relevant to this coin any more, and only around because it was the best method they could think of 5 years ago. 5 years in crypto years, man, that's a long time.

Bollocks. The 'general user' doesn't care and the what principles of crypto are you talking about exactly? That miners have some god-given right to the cosmic money hose?

My proposal is that we have Masternodes running p2pool nodes and miners mine on the Masternode network and nowhere else. Solves the 51% threat, eliminates the need for 'enforcing' MN service fees, and ensures decentralisation. 50/50 split between MNs and miners, with miners who leave a balance on the MNP2pool earning a pro-rata cut of the MN reward as well, and meaning that as long as the total MNP2pool node balance is >1000DRK, the MN op can take out some or all of his initial 1000DRK and set up further MNs...

I don't think miners deserve 80% of the block reward, I don't think their contribution is worth 4X that of Masternodes. Not even close.

Yes it's the miners, and its still the miners. See how well transactions are relayed without them.

An old Celeron could process all the transactions on the DRK network (and probably all the transactions on the BTC network too) and relay them without breaking a sweat. Go look at the block explorer, explain to me why we need 100GH of compute power to fling half a dozen numbers a minute about.

Also, it's easier to fork a coin with 100% PoS as well.

How would you know this? Proof of Service != Proof of Stake.

The whole point of the MN network is fast comms between them, which is what's going to make InstanTX possible. It's what makes Darksend possible. I'm seeing no way to fork anything without purchasing a million DRK to deploy another 1000 Masternodes. And we're all happy that's just not feasible, right?

Fuck that !  I not sure you got any idea how much time, effort and hard cash DRK miners go through keeping up with and optimising mining software, buying and optimizing GPU's, buying power supplies, mobo's, extraction fans and RAM finding CPU's hardrives  paying power bill's just so we get to PAY these bills, PAY 20% to idle node owners and in the end get a few DRK to invest for possible  gain OR loss.

we do it couse we like mining and we like the coin but like being told by someone as your self in the community we don't deserve the coin we get to keep ,,

Na mate you need to get real

well that's my bit there's plenty more but i don't want to fuck the thread up arguing with that crap any more.

That's very respectable. But what if for this coin in particular, that is a service that is not needed?? I was looking for some dissenting opinions, and found them, but can't say I saw anything that holds much water. BUT this is all theoretical, and don;t wanna fill the thread with bad vibes. OH YEAH, and the abolishing of POW was definitely not "my" idea. Have a good night dudes.

Uh huh, mining is such hard work.  Roll Eyes

I've mined DRK from 15 minutes after I heard about it, and I still mine it. By all means go mine something else, I'll keep mining DRK. What have you done with all that DRK you have been mining? Sold it for BTC/fiat probably. Otherwise you'd be running a Masternode, eh?

Justify your usefulness please, or go away.
