Yeah, seems to me, for new algo coins, miner optimization and mining ("optimine") is the new premine. However, once the word gets around, and there are no optimized miners published, there will be no buyers for the optimined coins.
That's a pretty insane number. How does it account for those who have modded the miner with significant performance increases? My guess is that there are a select few out there with significantly optimized miners that are mining the lions share of blocks and skewing these figures

No way around this. For all we know, Bitcoin was massively premined early on by someone that coded a GPU miner in private too. Same with LTC

ltc is the first one in the market following bitcoin scheme, then ppl only have 2 choice btc or ltc. Not likely today, ton of garbage coins come out, we have lot of choices of there. And as Mr dga mentiond on earlier pages, with 30m work, he can speed up to 80% performance of rminerd. You can ask ppl around how many of them are still mining with their resources (desktop cpu)? or invest $ on cloud mining?

IIRC iXcoin wsa first ALt, then i0coin, eventually a bunch of other crap alts, and LTC came improving on all these crap alts.

I got a few small donations, but my timing was really bad. I made it donationware just was 'official' binaries were released Did it work? I tried that with several of my previous open source releases (optimized nvidia scrypt miner, gpu and cpu optimized miners for protoshares) and was, ahh, extremely underwhelmed by the donations that did not flow in. :-) I'm very interested in the question of how to fund development of cool advances in cryptocurrencies. The best model I've seen yet is yvg1900's yam model, but I'm determined to find a way to do it that results in an open source release. If possible. -Dave Why not release it and post your RIC address so people can donate what they like? (I did this last week for a MaxCoin miner) From a quick examination of their miner, it's less than a day of work for a good programmer to get a 5-10x speedup. Someone who's had experience in high performance prime sieves could get more in less time.
(I hacked on my own version briefly and got an 80% speedup with about 30 minutes of work.)
I'd be surprised if there aren't at least several private fast implementations done already, devs or otherwise. Doesn't mean the devs did it, of course, but I'd bet money that someone did.
Where's the code with those 80% speed increases? Or do you prefer to keep them to yourself? I'm open to offers. 1.25M numbers/sec on an i7-4770. Not too bad. :-) -Dave
