Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

So envious.  I think I'm running the lock-you-into-an-orphaned chain client, I updated too quickly.

I compiled the latest source, downloaded litecoin.conf and put it in ~/.litecoin.  I'm stuck at downloading block 119.  This seems to be related to the lockin... anyone know what is going on?

shit! that's my fault. please use the old binary:
https://github.com/downloads/coblee/litecoin/litecoin-windows-client-10-11-2011.zip
https://github.com/downloads/coblee/litecoin/litecoin-windows-daemon-10-11-2011.zip

Sorry guys. I locked in a block that was later orphaned. D'oh!
It's too chaotic.

I've checked in the fix with the right hash. If you compile from source, please grab latest and recompile.
Windows client and daemon coming very soon.

So, after 1.5 hours with 2x i7 920s pumping out 12 ghash each, a q9330 at a bit over 10 mhash and some crappy athlon at about 8 mhash, all pointed at the same litecoind I have:

./litecoind getbalance
100.00000000

And about um 20? 30? orphans.   Lots of stales too.

I'm trying to mine with the latest client (gen = 1), and I'm not seeing any CPU usage by litecoin-qt.exe, so that is not working as well...

I'll give half of my first block to whoever helps me start mining.

Ah, good to know this behavior is average and expected.   Looking at people getting 8x my coin output with 1/2 the hardware was a bit discouraging.  Luck happens.

What block # is your client on?
