That's interesting: 10,000 ethnic Germans wants return to the Crimea.
This is very welcome news for the Crimeans in general. The Germans are a very hardworking group of people. I hope that the entire Crimean Goth community will return to their homeland, along with other minorities such as the Crimean Greeks and the Crimean Bulgars. It will be a good option to create some German national villages, just like the ones in Altai Krai and Omsk Oblast.

I never thought that there were ethnic Germans in Crimea. The Crimean peninsula is quite far from Germany. How many Germans were there? And why did they left Crimea?

Russia Has Deployed BASTION Mobile Coastal Defense Missiles in the Crimeahttp://www.matthewaid.com/post/85709316751/russia-has-deployed-bastion-mobile-coastal-defenseI never thought that there were ethnic Germans in Crimea. The Crimean Goths were deported by Josef Stalin during the WW2. Until then, there were some 50,000 Germans living there (51,299 in 1939 census). Out of the 27 districts which existed in Crimea prior to the WW2, two were considered to be German dominated (Telmansky and Büyük Onlarsky).

Breaking! US Planned to Turn Crimea into Military Base Against Russiahttp://futuristrendcast.wordpress.com/2014/04/24/breaking-us-planned-to-turn-crimea-into-military-base-against-russia/The information coming to the surface now shows that if Crimea stayed as part of Ukraine, it would have become a huge NATO/US military base. I seriously doubt that the people of the Crimea would have stood for that, but if such a thing did happen, it would have meant WWIII as Russia would never allow it. From this perspective it’s especially clear why NATO, USA and EU were so shocked that Russia decisively accepted Crimea back. They already considered it theirs. The highlighted quote: The goal of all these plans was to turn Ukraine into a geopolitical black hole – a massive weapon against Russia on its borders. The diabolical nature of the plan was to pit against each other two very close, brotherly peoples, essentially to pit against each other two parts of a single culture; have them fight against their own interests and in the interests of the US. Hitler once said that only when they succeeded in making Russians living in Ukraine believe they were not Russian, would they win. US/EU almost succeeded in making it happen, but not quite. EU/US have gone a slightly different route. I see quite a lot of comments on Ukrainian sites, reiterating that Ukrainians are Slavic, while Russians are not. Also, note this year's EuroVision song from Poland "We are Slavic". Yes, they are. But I wonder if there was an alternative agenda there...

Nope. Most of the Crimean Germans are descended from the Crimean Goths. The Crimean Gothic language, related to the standard German language was spoken in Crimea until the WW2.

I never thought that there were ethnic Germans in Crimea. The Crimean peninsula is quite far from Germany. It's not a problem at all... Germans even had autonomous republic in the USSR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volga_German_Autonomous_Soviet_Socialist_RepublicFirst head of state was Ernst Reuter, who later was elected as a mayor of Berlin. Unfortunately that autonomy was terminated when Hitler have started a war.

Yep, but autonomous republic is much better than autonomous district. Well... most of the German population has emigrated to Germany. In the oblasts of Samara and Saratov (location corresponding to the Volga German USSR), only around 1% of the population is ethnic German. So establishing an autonomous republic is not possible.

Well , they should all claim independence . Autonomous villages. But it will be a pain in the ass to get a water pipe from the Danube to that region and not crossing Russian territory .

Well, Europe has a big problem anyway, becouse the Gazprom gasline runs trough Ukrain and into Europe, we are quite in need of this gas and can't afford to lose it. On the other hand, Russia's biggest money maker IS the raw materials, so they don't have much of a choise to make. If every single village is going to declare themselfs independant we'r going to get some heavy stuff to cope with, e.g. civil wars, water, gas, roads, electro and so on.

Actually they have some options: * Continue to sell gas through the North Stream and ignore everything what happends around. Southern europe will throw down an unelected Brussel's junta as the result. * Force europe to pay ukrainian bills... Directly, through loan or by paying increased price. * Build alternate gasline to sell gas without participation of thieves in the Ukraine. * Build gasline to China and abandon the european market for good. * ... So, Merkel & incorporated have got a bunch of problems... They seriously need to start talking about problems which they have created, instead of brainwashing people and supporting a coup-appointed government in the Kiev.

Putin just said it will not happen. He is not known to back off on his statements: http://rt.com/business/159200-ukraine-gas-russia-payment/The other scenario that you mentioned is more likely: Ukraine fragmenting and falling apart so much that there is no one left to pay the debt, in which case IMF suggests "default and debt restructuring".
