Due to the initial DDoS attacks on the nodes and at FusionHash, there were an abundance of early blocks that became orphans after shares had already been paid out (it essentially became an unintentional ponzi scheme.) Many early miners at FusionHash were paid out on blocks that were actually orphans resulting in other early miners not being paid out on their shares because of insufficient coins.

All shares at FusionHash are logged and accounted for, but a number of people who have shares in the first 400 blocks did not receive their full payouts. Instead of continuing the "ponzi scheme" they simply skipped over the affected shares to resume normal operation and decided to address the issue once they had mined enough OctoCoins and received enough fees to pay everybody their full share.

As soon as we discovered what had happened, we sent FusionHash about 25% of our 0.8% OctoCoin premine to help them cover all owed shares. There is no reason why they should have to pay out using their own OctoCoins that they have earned/mined when the issue was just as much our fault as theirs.

FusionHash has sent an Email out to a number of affected miners at their pool. If you believe you have been shorted and did not receive this Email, please contact:

admin@fusionhash.com

Include your FusionHash user name, registered Email address, and your OctoCoin address. If you are owed coins, they will investigate and you will be paid (we will work with them to make sure of it.) Keep in mind they have over 3000 accounts registered at their OctoCoin pool as of this post so please don't randomly message them hoping to score a few bonus coins if you don't truly suspect a discrepancy - it is a time consuming process and their time is better spent building out their new products and services. They have assured everyone that not a single share is missing in the database. Beyond the early issues, everything has been running great over there for over 36 hours now - the issue primarily just affected some early miners.

I'll leave it up to FusionHash to issue a formal apology/etc but rest-assured everybody will be paid. Thanks for supporting OctoCoin guys - it only gets better from here.

Just wanted to add that we are a bit behind schedule due to the issue outlined above as well as a demanding SXSW 2014 schedule, but we are about to start releasing some of the promised items. This first wave of releases will be pretty basic stuff but obviously mandatory.

Please continue to check the top post and/or website for updates. One of our developers just completed the Reddit Tip Bot as well and we will release that tomorrow at the latest (still testing it out to ensure it's ready to put into production - this is the first time any of us have used a Reddit Tip Bot.)

This warms my heart to hear.

Each step a new endeavour makes is foundational to it's future success. You have been clear, concise, and honourable. To know that the developers of OctoCoin are standing shoulder to shoulder with anyone facing a discrepancy in their early mining instils much confidence.

I'm going to bed, if anything gets stuck, everyone will get paid in the morning. Tomorrow I'm going to work on the problem some more. Investigating this has left me with lots of questions. Either there's some glitch with the wallet or MPOS not playing nicely, or it could even be that orphaned block causing issues as well, as the last error's payout log mentioned insufficient funds, though I'm unsure if we really ARE a block behind. Something is still a tad funny but everyone's getting paid one way or another. Definitely had my plate full! Good night Smiley

I had a look at your pool and noticed you are crediting blocks after 60 confirms.

If you look at the source code for 888 you will notice that coins are not credited to your client until 120 confirms.

That could be your problem if you are having insufficient funds problems.

Yes, I went ahead and changed it back to 120 when I got up. I was under the impression that mined blocks confirmed quick like transactions but apparently I derp'd on that one. After we build up a good positive balance I may turn them back down as a convenience for the miners but also want to avoid more errors. After investigating my payout errors, some were for insufficient funds, others for what I believe to be connectivity issues, but looked very similar in the logs so I got pretty confused for a while.

I'll admit my programming skills are not proportional to my skills as a technician and sysadmin, so understanding what I see in source code usually involves me asking lots of questions, at least with C. Soon I'm going to get back into some small-time development, though. I was a Hypercard nut back in the Classic Mac days and RunRev has an incredible platform called LiveCode, which is basically a powerful, cross-platform incarnation of Hypercard. I have lots of time on my hands so I'm considering reviving an old project as well as possibly throwing together some pool sysadmin tools for Android.

This is what makes for a good release. Active developer interaction with the community as well as transparency makes a huge difference, and helps build confidence in the coin. The community can, at times, be a somewhat skittish and panicky entity, quick to judge, give up, or scream "SCAM!" This launch and all the interaction with the devs has done me some good, as I'm normally not very socially outgoing, and usually remain behind the scenes.

It makes all the difference in the world with the developers staying around and addressing issues to the community. Take the launch of BirdCoin, where the dev ninja launched, left us a broken wallet which we had to fix ourselves, and never came back, now the community is stuck modifying the wallet, making our own block explorer, petitioning exchanges, etc. I was asked to take over the project but as I've stated before I may be a decent sysadmin, but no good with C!

Anyway, here's to the developers, you have my gratitude for the graciousness and patience you've displayed.

Wow, the devs sending some of their premine to help out a stricken pool is awesome. Great to see that.

Also the price is looking good, nice to see a coin get off to a good start for a change!

DinarCoin is a ridiculous coin or genius.. i think its the former, so ignore that one winning, I think the votes were paid for.

GO GO OCTO!

GO GO OCTO!

GO GO OCTO!

GO GO OCTO!

GO GO OCTO!

GO GO OCTO!

I'm sure lots of votes on both sites are paid for... miners have way more invested than the .0001 btc per vote costs.

Octo will either be a sleeper hit or die quietly as there really was no big buzz during the launch or now. Im hoping the first option will be true.

Don't know why but I have a hunch this could be a sleeper. Put it this way, normally I mine and dump and I'm holding some of these just in case.

I'll be interested to see what the surprise announcement is after the reward changing.

I think it all depends on what the developers and the community do. I think this coin can do well with no buzz. I meant at least it's not one of those no cap or billions of coins caps. There was a nice website from the get go. The wallet looks nicer and works better than most. The community and developers have been active on here. Reddit pages have been set up. Tipbots coming soon. Voting is going on for two more exchanges to add. The two beta exchanges have had a high of .016 cents on the first 3 days. Really not a bad launch. Time will tell.

For having little buzz it's being mined at very high rates.  The Fusionhash pool has a MH/S rate of over 600 right now.  There's a rush to get those big blocks while you can!

Sweet action! Let's keep them votes going people!

Maybe we should organize a time where all interested users send a small amount of btc to the addresses listed for voting and see how big of a votes jump we get. I know mintpal counts .0001 btc as 1 vote. if everyone just donated a tiny amount we could get a huge jump.
