From 89/3 to 127 all out and 4 overs left in the bank! just wow. This was one of the fine batting collapse in T-20 from bowling point of view and match winning come back from the windies after their poor power play display with the ball.

I am glad that i did not place a bet in the match, after West Indies scored 145 runs i did not consider them as a huge total to defend and i expected Australia to have the batting lineup to chase the score but then i saw the batting line up and the discussion here about the missing players and i thought to skip it and Australia messed up the chase completely.

I was surprised to see the Australian batsmen batting. I never thought they would lose all their wickets for just 128 runs. Australia's middle-order batsmen should have batted more responsibly. This match should have been easily won for a team like Australia.

If Australia could play as a team and they can bond with the new players then they can bounce back but it wont be easy as West Indies is a formidable side and it is always difficult to defeat them when you are playing in their background especially in the T20 format where they could challenge any team when they are touring, so it will be a difficult tour for Australia.

It is not a simple victory, to win against England in England is a huge deal as they are strong performers and England won the first match and it was reduced due to the weather situation and winning the second T20 is a huge deal and India level the series and even though India lost the ODI series if they can win the T20 series it will be a huge deal.

The COVID restrictions have made matters worse. Subcontinent teams are struggling to get adjusted to the conditions in England and that may be one of the reasons for the lop-sided nature of the matches. It was not just Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Even India struggled against the New Zealand pace battery during the WTC finals. In case of Pakistan, they could not organize any warmup matches and have to stay inside the bio-bubbles all the time. So it might have affected their performance. The England players on the other hand are playing county cricket.

Well.. that is good.. at least one team from the sub-continent is winning some matches in England. Indian women's team is not as strong as their men's team. If I am not wrong, they had to play the qualifier tournament last time to get a slot for the world cup. On top of that, the women's domestic cricket in India is in very bad state, due to the pandemic. If they still manage to win a few matches, then good for them. But I don't expect them to be competitive against professional sides such as England or Australia in the near term.

Stop dreaming about the WIPL. Do you really think that a cash-minded administrative body such as the BCCI would approve the WIPL? The ECB and CA started their own leagues ages ago, and their budgets are like a small fraction of what the BCCI has. I think someone need to start a rebel league for the women, similar to the ICL started by Subhash Chandra in 2007. The BCCI approved IPL only due to the potential competition from ICL. Previously they had rejected suggestions to start a franchise T20 league.

That i agree, although one reason could be lack of quality women players in the country. We do have state teams but it seems quality is not up to mark. After all, you do need fair amount of domestic talent pool to fill the squads and become self sufficient in some sense as far as revenue is concern. I'm hopeful that in next years or so we'll see some sort of positive updates in this regard.

I don't think that the lack of quality players is the reason. Last time, the women's domestic tournament involved a total of 38 teams and the quality was satisfactory (at least for the elite division). I have noticed a number of talented female players, who are not fortunate enough to be considered by the national selectors. But some of them have performed consistently well in the domestic circuit for many years now. Without the WIPL, these talented players will just vanish from the limelight after sometime, just like what happened to dozens like them in the previous decades. There needs to be a level between the national team and the domestic tournaments. WIPL would have filled that gap.

I am not ready to hear that earlier excuse because you are literally telling that the selectors are corrupted which i highly doubt. Earlier we had discussion regarding that BCCI is looking to cash in the next big thing and if they compare the pay-scale they are bound to get it is not going to be easy. I am not aware of the television viewership numbers in sports but the reason BCCI is not entertaining is because of the revenue model they will get..

I don't think that the post implies that the selectors are corrupt. Some amount of nepotism exists in selection, and that combined with regional bias and an oversupply of talent means that at least some of the talented players never manage to promote themselves from the domestic level to the national level. The WIPL, if implemented will bridge these two levels. National team can only accommodate 14-15 players, while 500 plus play in the domestic cricket. WIPL will represent an intermediate level, with a pool of 50-60 top domestic players.

West Indies looks to be in great form. One thing they need to look in to, is the team cohesion. And this is one department where they have consistently faced issues. Looking at the performance of the West Indies in the current T20 format, it seems that they are back to their old form. If they can maintain such a great performance till the World Cup, they will also fight hard to win the World Cup title. In the last match against Australia, they scored 142 runs in just 14.5 overs. It is not an easy task to score 142 runs in just 14.5 overs against a strong bowling lineup like Australia.
