I watched many of the World Cup matches and I agree with him that the quality of the cricket are high enough to merit a T20 tournament. I think this world cup in South Africa sparked a lot of interest in the game for many women en school kids, so we might see something in the future.  

I don't understand the sudden interest being shown by some of these boards in establishing women's franchise leagues. 15 years ago, when the ECB and CA invested heavily in franchise leagues for women, the other boards were making fun of them. Now they have noticed that these two teams (Australia and England) are dominating women's cricket because of that visionary step. BTW, I don't know how the CSA will get any profits out of this league. Even their men's league (SA20) is struggling to make profits.

Yeah, these guys are late and kinda missed a trick but at least they are waking up now and it's a big positive for Women's cricket, so I won't criticize them as it's better late than never.

I think it's already established that no one expects massive returns on Women's cricket (financially), self-sustainability is everyone's main goal and they should cross the line with a better products.

This strategy is going to be really hard to beat. And the BCCI knows very well that there will be a lot less spectators on the ground to see women playing cricket. So making a certain number of tickets free is going to ensure that there are of course people on the ground watching the games. This way the tickets are also going to be sold out. I mean the tickets would have been sold out anyway in my opinion. But this "free" idea is going to keep people more interested.

It is a good marketing strategy hoping that Women will be flocking into the stadium to witness these events because they need a grand opening with a full capacity crowd and they need to excite the fans to have purchasing power for the BCCI later on. Globally the complaint by Women athletes are that they are not getting equal pay as men ignoring the fact that Women are not able to pull in the same revenue but if WIPL can excite fans then it will be a great beginning for Women's sports.

That's really a good marketing strategy as well as it gives an overview that BCCI is giving importance to Women. I find this to be good initiative, and this needs to continue in the upcoming years of WIPL. Only thing annoying is the number of teams. If they've planned better, surely more teams would've got into the league. Anyhow it is just the beginning for another big league of the future.

For the initial 2-3 years, maybe BCCI can toy with the idea of providing free entry to a limited number of fans (especially students). But gate collection is not that insignificant. I don't know how much the tickets for WPL is going to cost, but IPL tickets are priced from ₹800 to ₹35,000 (for matches involving Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium). Assuming an average of ₹2,000 per viewer, if 25,000 fans attend the match, the gate collection will amount to ₹50,000,000 per match. After tax and all the cuts, it should be enough to at least pay for the security and other expenses. And don't think that people are not interested in women's cricket. There is a surge in popularity within India recently.

Today few more things have been added to the ticketing. I checked with the terms and no more possibility to book through Bookmyshow. It shows Closed and does this mean that the tickets for the opening ceremony and the inauguration match is already filled. If so, the response is really good for WPL.

First, it is a strategy to encourage women in women's cricket. BCCI knows very well that the more women are encouraged the better women cricketers will be produced. Moreover, maybe they are adopting this strategy to popularize this league. They will observe how the attendance of the spectators will be in the field. Maybe as a strategy BCCI is trying to fill their gallery more with women spectators as they know ICC will be keeping a close eye on it. In this regard they will be completely successful.

WPL is about to start tomorrow, with the first match between Gujarat Giants Women and Mumbai Indians Women at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai. Difficult to pick a side here, as both of them have very good players. Gujarat Giants have heavyweights such as Harleen Deol, Sophia Dunkley, Ashleigh Gardner, Sneh Rana and Georgia Wareham. Mumbai Indians squad include talented players such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Yastika Bhatia, Heather Graham, Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Chloe Tryon, Issy Wong and Pooja Vastrakar.

True, Although at the start it was looking right decision but after seeing how many players went unsold in the auction, it felt like they were a couple of teams short.

The opening ceremony is going to be a full house. Even if people do not come for anything else, they are going to come to see the performance of Movie Stars. And also the tickets are very cheap. I am expecting a full house in the opening ceremony and also the first few matches. At least if I was in India, I would have gone to see the performance of Kiara Advani

Slowly women too getting better opportunity to play cricket league and keep themselves busy. Following this more countries could start their league for women. This will help them personally improve their career as well as have consistency in performance. When they play at certain time interval, surely the performance won't be the same as the previous match. Australia have got the strong league for Women. Maybe India will place its position next to Australia and later takes the first position same as IPL did with Big Bash League.

I still don't know whether the WPL will find a large audience among the Indian women. Being a women, it is hard to find anyone from my gender interested in cricket. Even among my colleagues, almost all of those who are interested in women's cricket are men. My female colleagues are in general not interested in sports and even in cases where they show interest, it is for sports such as tennis and badminton. I am not sure about the younger generation though.

I still don't know whether the WPL will find a large audience among the Indian women. Being a women, it is hard to find anyone from my gender interested in cricket. Even among my colleagues, almost all of those who are interested in women's cricket are men. My female colleagues are in general not interested in sports and even in cases where they show interest, it is for sports such as tennis and badminton. I am not sure about the younger generation though.

Women's sports parties are of less interest to women. And this is why the popularity of women's cricket in the Indian subcontinent is low. And in any sport, the Indian subcontinent has a male interest. I have seen very few women who are interested in women's cricket and follow the matches regularly. But I know many men who are interested in women's cricket and enjoy the matches. At the same time, they also place bets on the matches. However, women's sports are slowly gaining popularity. The future may see a larger audience for women's cricket.

Just found out that both of them would be part of the commentary team in WPL 2023. I am not sure how BCCI was able to convince Venkatesh Prasad in doing commentary with the Chopra after both of them had fight over KL Rahul on Twitter. I guess they might have offered him a good amount of money. This turn of events would certainly spice up WPL 2023. I am pretty much convinced that many cricket fans like me would watch WPL more to listen to these two than develope an interest in women's league cricket. I hope these to forget that spat and provide great commentary in WPL.

Today's is the first match of WPL starting in few hours between Gujrat Gaints and Mumbai Indians , many international players are also participating in this first edition of WPL.  This is start of a new era of cricket and hoping that this era will have positive effects on rest of the world women teams.
