The last 4 matches of the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup will be played today and by the end of the day we will get to know who will be qualifying for the semi-finals. As of now, India and Australia remains as favorites from Group 1, while England and New Zealand are favored over the others in Group 2. The format is extremely confusing as each team will be playing only two matches in Super-6 instead of 5. Positions 13 to 16 have been finalized, with Indonesia playing in their first ICC tournament securing the 14th rank ahead of test nation Zimbabwe (16th).

I am pretty sure that England, Newzealand, India, and Australia will qualify for the Semifinals. There is no way other teams can replace them as they are all way ahead in RR. As of now, I think England & Newzealand are the favorites to qualify for the finals. Yeah, the format is pretty confusing, not sure why ICC decided to implement this format.

Anyone watching BPL matches? Today the match between Fortune Barisal vs Sylhet Strikers is taking place. Barisal won the toss and decided to bowl. And the Sylhet team did not start their innings well. Sylhet lost 3 wickets to collect only 15 runs in 2 overs. Sylhet collected 65 runs in 10 overs. Shanto and Tom Moores are batting well. If their partnership lasts, Sylhet will be able to give a big target even today.

BCCI will be unveiling the 5 WIPL franchises today - owners of the teams, along with the cities from where they will be based in. I sincerely hope that they give more chances to tier-2 cities that are not represented by the IPL. Having teams from cities such as Ranchi, Indore and Guwahati would boost the popularity of cricket there. For the tier-1 cities, they already have IPL franchises representing them. BTW, BCCI is expecting that the franchise auction will net them around ₹750 crore (₹150 each for the franchises). It may go up quite significantly as a lot of corporate players are involved.

That said, the BCCI has introduced some revolutionary changes for the WIPL, which will be welcomed by the cricket fans:

1. Each team will have a squad of 15 to 18 players
2. Up to 7 overseas players will be allowed in each squad
3. In the playing XI, a total of 5 overseas players are allowed (given one of them is from associate nations)
4. The purse available for each team is ₹12 crore
5. First season will run between 5th March and 23rd March 2023
6. Player auction will be held during first week of February

Adani & Haldiram are planning to buy teams in the WIPL. They both have submitted technical bids to BCCI. CSK, GT & LSG have pull out from the bid. Other franchise are still in the biding game. Glazer family who also own Manchester United have also expressed interest in buying a team. There many more big names but only 5 teams will be announced today. WIPL is going to be a profitable venture for BCCI after IPL.

I can't agree with you that dhaka dominators have that much good squad . Apart from the other seasons, this season Dhaka squad is very weak compared to other teams. I do not know who is responsible for this!
Moreover, their players are not performing well and Dhaka dominators are at the bottom of the BPL rankings this year. But at the end of the day I will blame the team management because they did not organize the team well in the beginning. and i think this is how dhaka dominators have to leave this bpl season.

In Khulna Tigers vs Dhaka Dominators, 24th Match, i have just seen Dhaka Dominators squad. In my perspective there were no prominent players. So it has to be admitted that this time Dhaka Dominators squad is really weaker than other teams. I just keep Dhaka Dominators Players List in 24th Match Usman Ghani, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun (wk), Mizanur Rahman, Nasir Hossain (c), Ariful Haque, Alex Blake, Amir Hamza, Taskin Ahmed, Al-Amin Hossain, Salman Irshad. Although Dhaka Dominators scored 108 runs and won the match. But we have to agree that they are weak from all aspects in this session.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are underestimating the potential of WIPL. I am not going to say that it will overtake IPL in the future, but it has the potential to become one of the top-5 franchise T20 leagues in the world. Back in 2008, Rajasthan Royals was sold for just $67 million to Raj Kundra (currently in jail for producing porn films, an illegal business in India). Now the same franchise is valued at $1 billion, which represents a 1,500% ROI in just 14 years. Now the base price for WIPL franchises is a bit high and eventually they may get sold for $15 to $20 million each. But in the next 10 to 15 years, I am sure that these franchises will have a ROI of 15 to 20 times.

BTW, I believe that the number of WIPL franchises will get increased with time. Now they are starting with 5 teams, but after two or three successful seasons, the BCCI may increase the number of franchises to 8, or even 10. Therefore I believe that there is a solid reason for some of the franchises to splurge big money for today's auction. BTW, I am impatiently waiting for the tweet from Jay Shah. Should come out sometime in the next 1-2 hours, right?

South Africa women U19 team performance has been disappointing in this world cup. I was expecting them to be in the top 2 ranking within their group. It seems the Indian team is far better than the South African team. Most of these girls will now be part of the player auction for WIPL. If they win the world cup then they would be handsomely rewarderd by the BCCI. I still doubt they will reach the finals.

I am not sure whether U19 players will get picked up by the WIPL franchises. In men's IPL we rarely see anyone from the U19 squad. Notable exceptions are Dewald Brevis and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. And we have just 5 franchises for the WIPL, and there are slots for 70 to 90 players in total. How many U19 players will get picked up? I am not expecting anything more than 1-2. BTW, I am still waiting for the announcement from BCCI regarding WIPL franchises since today morning. I guess the bidding is taking a lot of time and some of the corporates are ready to spend crazy amounts.

WIPL is bigger than any other franchise league except IPL. Adani group paid the highest for Ahmedabad and next was RCB. I am sure after the first season BCCI would increase the number of teams.

The next group is for minnow bashing and for Kiwis + Poms it's just routine matches.

Still India performed way better than South Africa in this group. Many players from the top 4 teams will now become part of WIPL. I am eagerly waiting for player auction.

Bangladesh U-19 Women's Cricket put on a brilliant performance. Although they failed to make the semi-finals (due to a lower net run rate), they claimed third place in their tournament. A World Cup trophy was lifted by our U-19 Men's team three years ago. Bangladeshi fans were hopeful for the young Tigresses after a promising start! It is safe to predict a bright future for Bangladesh Women's Cricket.

West Indies Women V South Africa Women

South Africa Women's team played well against West Indies Women's team today in the tri-nation series. Batting first, West Indies set a target of just 98 runs in 20 overs. It was not enough to win the T20 format. They lost only 6 wickets. But the batsmen of West Indies batted very slowly. On the other hand, South African women's team did not face any problems to cross the target of 98 runs. They collected 98 runs very easily. And South Africa won the match without losing any wickets. Openar Tazmin Brits scored 50 runs off 43 balls.
