I am eagerly waiting to see this pink ball match although unluckily haven't got enough time to watch an entire test match. i think both team will get a new experience from this and test cricket will touch another level. Test cricket is loosing its popularity day by day where cricket lovers prefer to watch twenty/20 matches but this "Day-Night" format could change the current scenario.

India does have a bigger audience and if the day night test match is a success then we will see more day night matches around the world and the advertising revenue the ICC earns with every India match is higher and if they are able to attract more on air advertisement for test matches then it will be a grand success and hence this will be an important change.

You are right about the venue and the teams, but as per records the date was 27th November 2015 (i.e 2015-16 season). It was the last test of the 3-match series and the toss was won by Brendon McCullum of New Zealand, who chose to bat first. The match was really close, although Australia won by three wickets. None of the batsmen managed to score a century, and there were only three half centuries (Tom Latham for New Zealand, and Steven Smith/Peter Nevill for Australia). Hazlewood took 70/6 in the NZ second innings.

It is ridiculous to charge high ticket prices for the economy stands. The BCCI gets most of their revenue from TV rights and sponsorship and the gate receipts represent a very minuscule share. Even then, they can charge whatever they want for the premium stands. But I would request them to price the economy stand tickets at around $2 or $3 (compared to the current price of around $10). It can fill the stadiums even during the weekdays, as the Indians are really crazy about their national team.

Initially the crowd might come as it’s going to be new for few months for people to experience the day night matches . After certain time it would require more promotion or some entertainment for people to keep coming in the test matches as well to view the match .

May be the introduction of IPL and the introduction of T20 had an impact on the audience interest and the new generation of viewers might not be interested in the longer format and hence we see empty seats even in India. Earlier India had some legendary players like Sachin and Dravid and people usually come to stadium just to see them and may be that is another reason.

People are not having time to spend time to see 5 days of cricket and the taste of audience changes as everything is instant now and test matches shows the real talent of a player and hence they are promoting the test matches and the ICC is trying their best to revive the audience interest by day night matches.

I doubt this will make a big impact. The World Test Championship is a good idea to motivate people to come and watch matches, but it will only help in a small way. More people might come and attend the semis and the finals if they are happening in India.

I agree. Day and Night test matches doesn't represent the solution to curtail the falling interest in test cricket. There was a reason why a great deal of interest was there for the recently concluded Ashes series. And the same reason can be attributed for the (relative) lack of interest for the India vs South Africa series, which also concluded at almost the same time.

What attracts the crowd is traditional rivalry. Ashes is more than a century old, and a lot of people are crazy about the England vs Australia rivalry in cricket. In the past, there were so many controversies (such as the Bodyline scandal) and this rich history keeps people interested. India vs Pakistan rivalry is also comparable, but the two teams haven't faced each other in more than a decade.

About D/N test. don't consider this as a perfect solution but one of the important piece of big puzzle. its important to have all pieces together otherwise..... meh.

There is nothing wrong in trying, i never used to watch test matches like that but the Ashes i will try my best to watch when ever i get time and usually these are interesting encounters than the rest of the test series.

The T20 format is entertaining but you cannot find real cricket being played because all the advantage goes to the batsman with small grounds and rules favoring the batsman.

I agree that England and Oz fans can get along well and have a great time as well outside the stadium . This is not the case with India vs Pak audiences . And also it’s a nice idea when the viewership and audiences are declining you will have to make changes in test cricket .

India and Pakistan fought several wars against each other, in which hundreds of thousands of people died. There is a political enmity which overshadows the competition in sports. On the other hand, there is no such political enmity between Australia and England. For those who are unaware, the Queen of England is the Queen of Australia as well.

Real cricket? Test match Cricket is the toughest format and I agree with this, but calling the T-20 format fake just because the advantage is handed to the batsmen is silly and something I don't agree with at all.

As time passes, batsmen are gaining more advantages over bowlers thanks to improved strike rate etc across all formats(Not just T-20), but what matters even more is the entertainment value which is the reason why this format generates insane revenue when compared to the rest.

Its pretty much hard to manage 5 days for watching an test match where 5 days is kinda enough to make a family trip . Although test cricket is losing its popularity day by day but there is no way to deny that its an important part of cricket. Maybe oneday it will be stored in the museum but implementing the idea of night test matches gonna bring some extra crowd.  

I think that very few people watch entire test matches nowadays. Most of us switch on the TV once in a while to check the scores and may be to watch half an hour or so of play while having tea. I am someone who work 5 days a week. Yesterday I watched the T20 match between Namibia and Papua New Guinea, because the timing was suitable for me (9pm - 12:30 am), and the duration was short. Today is holiday for me, and I am planning to watch the two T20 matches (final between Netherlands and PNG, and the 3rd place match). If a test match was ongoing today, then I would have skipped it.

The ICC needs to understand that T20 is a format that is more suitable to the modern lifestyle. Ideally they should increase the number of the T20 matches and decrease the number of ODIs and tests. What is the point in having each country play 8-10 tests every year? IMO, this number should be reduced to 3-4 matches per year. And one thing to remember here is that a T20 match brings in almost the equivalent amount of revenue when compared to a test match.

Cricket needs to move on. Clinging on to the traditions won't work.

As per the report, he should be ready by January 2020. Stress fracture is always a huge problem with today's pace bowlers. A number of them had their career ended due to this. Olly Stone of England is a perfect example. His career was effectively ended by a stress fracture on the lower back. Even earlier, bowlers such as Dennis Lillee faced this issue. He had to cut down on his pace to manage it.
