The next match between Sri Lanka and Netherlands will be a very interesting one, the Netherlands won its previous match in a way that was totally unexpected, and I'm quite sure that they will compete well against Sri Lanka as well. I was thinking that Scotland won the previous match and Srilanka made 245 runs which was not a big target because Scotland made 320 runs in its previous match. The type of performance that the Netherlands has shown in the last match was simply incredible. And let’s not forget that the last match of the Netherlands was against West Indies. Scotland lost against Sri Lanka mainly due to lack of adequate guidance. If they had not got the right direction like Sri Lanka, they might not have lost this match. Sri Lanka's middle order and lower order batsmen are not providing good batting support as you mentioned. Sri Lanka is a big name in cricket and there is no option to perform well to protect their reputation. If they avoid like this then what will they do in the main phase. In West Indies and England, cricket is getting less popular with every passing year and in case of latter the survival is now increasingly dependent on immigrants. And even in South Asian nations fans care only about their own national team and franchise T20 leagues. Interest in matches outside the matches by national team and local leagues such as IPL/PSL is close to zero. I was tracking the viewership during the super-over phase of West Indies vs Netherlands match on Hotstar. The peak viewership was somewhere around 200,000. This is around 1% of the viewership that you will get for an India vs Pakistan match.

In my experience, as far as the survivability of cricket in general goes, voices come from PIG-3 (you can add a couple more from other parts as well but they hardly matter tbh). Handful journalists raise these issues from time to time, you can actually count them on one hand. All of them are biased when it comes to their countries but they do raise some voices here n there.

The first hurdle for Sri Lanka is to finish the World Cup Qualifiers successfully. If they can successfully finish the World Cup Qualifiers and make it to the main stage of the World Cup, they have a big challenge ahead of them. I am personally not expecting the Netherlands to win against Sri Lanka. But I am expecting the Netherlands to actually give Sri Lanka a good fight. I have seen a few posts in social media about the ICC not interested in the expansion of the game, but no one is really interested in finding out the root cause. IMO, funding is only part of the problem. The real issue why cricket hasn't expanded worldwide is due to the change in eligibility criteria, which was done sometime back in 2007 or 2008. This resulted in the number of associate nations getting increased to close to 100, and reduced the funding for teams with native players by as much as 90% (because the funds gets divided up among more teams). Till now, I haven't seen a meaningful conversation anywhere against the weird eligibility criteria in cricket.

Yeah, Zimbabwe is stronger among Associate countries but not against big teams due to lack of experience and practice and no one care about this all right now but as African countries are kicking off things hopefully they will be improved their quality and performance in coming years which will surely help them as they are also well populated region and have enough support for this sport as well.

USA is relatively new team which is having all Indian based players so just because of this we can expect consistency because their domestic setup is also not strong enough as we need for this game but as they are working hard, hopefully they will do good, but they need to encourage their domestic set-up which will help for better results just having adopted players will never help in long run.
