But they crumbled under pressure. Tough luck after playing good cricket in the qualification. They are virtually out of the competition unless the Netherlands beat Scotland by a big margin, in this case, everything might come down to NRR.

Even if the Netherlands beat Scotland by a huge margin, there will be no chance of qualifying. Things have been tough for Zimbabwe and it is safe to say that Zimbabwe have been eliminated from the ICC Men's World Cup.



Given Zimbabwe's NRR (-0.099) and Scotland's NRR (+0.299), Zimbabwe are unlikely to qualify under any circumstances due to their minus NR. On the other hand, even if the Netherlands beat Scotland, there is no chance of the Netherlands falling behind in the net run rate of Scotland. I was quite sure that Zimbabwe was not going to win against Sri Lanka because they were too strong in those ICC matches and literally no team was at their level. But, I was hopeful that Zimbabwe will win against Scotland team without much efforts, however, they lost against a weaker team and that's a truth now. I think it was team Sri Lanka that broke the confidence levels of team Zimbabwe because Sri Lankan team won the match easily against Zimbabwe and the team Zimbabwe was unable to score good runs against Sri Lanka.

But, they lost against Scotland in the worst way and that thing has broken the hearts of the fans of team Zimbabwe, they weren't expecting such loss for their beloved team, however, Scotland has once again shown the world that they have the squad to reach ICC world cup, and I'm quite sure they will improve themselves further. In the coming match of Scotland vs Netherlands, I hope that both teams will play very well, however, I'm quite sure that team Scotland will win the match because they have gained huge boost in their confidence levels after winning a team like Zimbabwe.

The 7th Place Play off match between Ireland and Nepal was really exciting. Outstanding efforts were made by both teams in their pursuit of victory. The match progressed with considerable excitement demonstrating the players grit and talent. In a tight match Nepal scored a good total of 268 runs, setting a difficult goal for Ireland to reach. However Ireland batting ability turned out to be marginally better in this instance. Ireland achieved a well deserved victory because to outstanding performances from Curtis Campher (62 runs off 59 balls) and Harry Tector (60 runs off 76 balls). Nepal put up a brave fight but their bowling in the important situations fell short finally resulting in their defeat. Even so it was a riveting match that demonstrated the heart and comradery of both sides. Congratulations to Ireland for pulling through to win with four balls remaining edging out the opposition by two wickets. Curtis Campher tremendous contribution won him the rightful distinction of player of the match closely followed by Harry Tector outstanding performance.

Both Scotland and Netherlands are of roughly equal strength and have one more match each to decide which team will qualify. However, it would not be possible to predict that the Netherlands will beat Scotland by a huge margin. As NRR of Scotland is much higher than Netherlands and it can definitely be said that Scotland is considered as the second team after Sri Lanka.
But it was a pity for Zimbabwe as Zimbabwe was dominant throughout the tournament and most cricket fans assumed that Zimbabwe would qualify. I am curious about where you got this news. I never heard something like this. I don't think ICC can be influenced by broadcasters. I understand that India is the host team in this world cup. But that does not mean they can do whatever they want. There are other countries who also members of the ICC. India alone cannot make any decision and ICC won't approve any decision that is made by BCCI solely.  I am interested to know more about this. Do you have any evidence of what you just wrote? Or is this based on your opinion only? If this is just your opinion, then I would say I don't think you are right.

In March 2015, during the World Cup in Australia, Dave Richardson told the media that the agreement with the broadcasters was for a 10-team World Cup in 2019. At the time, he had said that the “debate will still be had as to have 10 teams or increase it". A couple of months later, in June 2015, it became clear that it will remain a 10-team tournament when the format was not discussed at the ICC Annual Conference in Barbados.

In the hectic negotiations with the ICC in the first half of 2017, BCCI would have deployed a number of arguments to justify its demand. It would not be unreasonable to assume that the India-specific broadcasting gains to be made during the 2019 World Cup would have featured prominently among them.

The broadcasters wanted a 10-team tournament and the ICC happily agreed to their demands. The decision was made during 2014/15, when Srinivasan along with Pawar was controlling the ICC/BCCI and wanted the smaller teams out of cricket. Back then the ECB and CA were solidly behind the BCCI. Every other sport has expanded the number of participants. FIFA World Cup has grown from 24 teams to 32, and then again to 48. Even the Kabaddi World Cup now features 12 teams (2 more than the cricket world cup).

Bangladesh VS Afghanistan 1st ODI

Bangladesh toured Afghanistan to play a series of three ODIs and two T20 matches. Afghanistan will take on Bangladesh in the first match of the three-match ODI series today at 2 pm at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. This is the last bilateral series between the two teams before the ODI World Cup. Bangladesh's best XI can be seen against Afghanistan in the first match without any injury problem. With 90% of the revenues coming from India, the TV rights holders are concerned that if by some chance India gets kicked out during group phase, then they will lose massive amounts of advertisement revenues. They are conveniently forgetting the fact that during the 2007 World Cup, it was Bangladesh which caused the exit of India (not one of the associates). Pakistan lost to Ireland and they exited as well. But then Ireland is also a test nation now. Also, rather than having 4 groups of 4 teams, they should have created 2 groups of 8 teams each.

@JSRAW I sincerely doubt that Indian cricket fan’s will call out ICC for this because they’ll be happy to see their country progress ahead but more team’s would definitely have added more fun to this tournament. Furthermore while it’s too early I’ll yet say it that team India ain’t invincible even on their home ground and unless the senior player’s start performing I doubt that they’ll win this tournament.
