If Pakistan pulls out of the tournament (which I feel it will) then India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will be the four teams to play in the Asia cup. ICC has already taken assurance from PCB a few days back that they will participate in the world cup. The government of Pakistan has now said they are reluctant to send thier team to India. I feel a neutral destination might be selected for all matches of Pakistan by the ICC in this situation.

There are few options left for the PCB. It is now almost certain that the tournament will be moved to Sri Lanka. There is a risk of rain interruption though, as the Monsoon season has started. In case Pakistan pulls out of the tournament, then United Arab Emirates will qualify as the 6th team. Anyway, I don't think that they will pull out. A better option for them is to agree to Sri Lanka as the hosts and then demand a hefty compensation from the ACC. Boycotting the ODI World Cup will be a stupid decision as well, as PCB's annual share was recently increased from $16 million per year to $34.51 million per year.

I absolutely agree. PCB will have to think about the best move on the chessboard right now. This is a losing battle for them. The best outcome is going to be them getting a good amount of money from the ICC. Any other decision of not playing the Asia Cup for the world cup is going to be absolutely stupid for Pakistan cricket board.

I think at this point we know that the Asia Cup is not being hosted in Pakistan. There are going to be a lot of rumors about that. I believe nothing is actually official yet. But the way things are going on right now, everything does indicate only one outcome which is the Asia Cup not being played in Pakistan.

The politics are destroying the fun of cricket. I'm wondering why ACC decided to arrange the Asia cup in Pakistan while it is known to everyone that Indian team won't visit Pakistan! There wouldn't be so much drama like that if the upcoming world cup venue isn't India. I'm expecting more drama in the upcoming days if the hybrid model really gets rejected.

Indian domestic team Karnataka is visiting Namibia for a series of 5 ODI matches. Both the teams are not in full strength, as Namibia is missing two of their star players - David Wiese and Ruben Trumpelmann. Karnataka is missing almost all of their senior players including KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal. The matches will be streamed live on Fancode. This is an encouraging sign. I want more Indian domestic sides to tour Associate nations such as Namibia, Nepal and Scotland. It will be mutually beneficial.

BTW, the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan also starts today (also covered live on Fancode).

I agree with this point. Politics is ruining the beauty of cricket. But at the same time, I would say that India should go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Other parties have no problem in Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board will ensure maximum security of the players. Since Pakistan will play in India in the World Cup, BCCI should keep politics aside and decide to perform in the Asia Cup in Pakistan. But BCCI will not do that.

In case Pakistan pulls out, and get replaced with United Arab Emirates (since they finished as the runners up for the ACC Premier Cup), then the India vs Pakistan match is not going to happen and Star has every right to ask for a refund. If India pulls out of the tournament, then it is going to be even worse. In that case Star will ask for a 100% refund.

If it was in the contract then I don't think it will be an issue. ACC would have taken into consideration the repercussions. Above all ACC has not removed Pakistan from the tournament. It is Pakistan which has said in multiple times that they will boycott the Asia cup if hosting rights are revoked. Now, the onus will lie on PCB and not on ACC.

I think PCB had every right to play hardballs with the BCCI or ACC but they overplayed their hand with the hybrid model by blackmailing BCCI, they wanted to implement the same model for the upcoming WC and BCCI called their bluff, it might backfire if they actually boycott the WC.

As this series is being held at Sri Lanka's home ground, Sri Lanka will undoubtedly take the home advantage in this series. In bilateral series, each team usually takes home advantage. If a country hosts a series, then the pitch is made according to the bowlers of that country, as a result of which the host bowlers get a better advantage.  
Afghanistan is very strong in terms of spin bowlers and they will have some advantage against Sri Lanka. It seems that Sri Lanka has made a bowling dependent pitch. Because Sri Lanka have collected only 39 runs in 9 overs where they have already lost two wickets.

In case of Asia Cup, it is going to be Broadcasters vs ACC. And I don't know the details, because unlike the ICC, ACC never publishes the bid details on media rights. In case Pakistan pulls out of the ODI World Cup later this year, then it will impact the ICC. Already there is an understanding that Star Sports (and Zee also) paid a lot more for the media rights than the initial estimates (2024-27 cycle). If there is a possibility of Pakistan pulling out of the subsequent tournaments, then they may ask the ICC to bring down the auction rate (2026 T20I World Cup is supposed to be hosted by India, while Pakistan is hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy).

On the other hand, the performance of the Sri Lankan players is completely erratic. There is no batsman in the team who is able to perform consistently and responsibly in every match. And so in this series, I consider the Afghanistan team as the favorite.

At the end of 20 overs, Sri Lanka scored only 85 runs, and they lost 4 important wickets. Dhananjaya De Silva is at the crease. And if he can't bat well then Sri Lanka will not be able to score even 200 runs today.

The pitch is not bowling-friendly. However, the performance of Sri Lanka's top order left me very disappointed. Pathum Nissanka scored 38 runs. Besides, no other batsman can play well in the top order. Sri Lanka scored 30 runs from the partnership of Asalanga and Dhananjaya. Sri Lanka now collects 114 runs. If Sri Lanka can't collect a big score from this partnership then I think there is no chance of Sri Lanka winning. Given a target of 200-220, Sri Lanka will not win. A target of at least 260-280 runs must be given to win.
