Guys, another news that I've seen. This is legit but not from PBA, I would connect this news as a threat to PBA. It's from the official FB page of Filbasket.
They're now going pro as they've said on that post and GAB have given them the license to become a pro league on March 15.
They also have a guest team from Malaysia. Check them out on their page and you'll see that news. I think this is a threat for PBA that having now a two new pro league in our country, the other is MPBL.

I don't think that those other basketball league is a threat to the PBA because the latter has a strong foundation of its existence financially. We have seen other leagues before and they say they are a threat to PBA but they just can't sustain their existence due to the fact that running a basketball league is so costly.

Games for today:

NLEX ML @2.19 vs Alaska, the Aces may be hot but i think they are bound to lose to the Road Warriors.

SMB -4.5 @1.91 vs NorthPort, Orlando Johnson will come strong for sure to prove to the management that he is worth for their money  Grin.

And why did Blackwater owner say in the past that he is gonna sell his team?

That plan is just a product of disappointment since the Blackwater CEO's ego was hit by the PBA since they think they won't have a violation for doing practice while it's not allowed during pandemic. That's the reason why after that violation, Blackwater suddenly announced that they will sell the franchise.

Look at what happened in the upcoming days and weeks after that plan, the CEO become cool and goes back to his usual self and didn't push selling the franchise. That's the story and not related to the PBA politics like what you are thinking I believe.

brink of extinction means that the league is already in the danger situation

I can't understand why the league is in a dangerous situation. Alaska leaving the PBA does have a big effect but it's not only by that should be the main reason why the league will be in danger. Maybe if all teams outside SMC will left, that's the dangerous situation we can consider. Looking at several years way back, the popularity and viewers' setup of the PBA is still good.

If you remember an article last 2019, there's a report where PBA hit a very good revenue that year and they reveal those amounts and expect to have it doubled the other year, 2020, but unfortunately, the pandemic happened.

PBA is already at the brink of extinction, we can't really deny that and that is exactly why they are now open to accept some foreign investments to form a team in the PBA now. Maybe if they succeed on this plans, PBA will continue but I think this won't go for long and it won't be the same league that we used to see.

"Brink of extinction" is a hard statement. Seems like you guys didn't actually follow the league. I hope it's just a figure of speech. Can you explain more why PBA is now on brink of extinction? They can even operate without getting much revenue since the pandemic. Having on a brink of extinction means PBA can't sustain its operation. Even PBA is not used to getting a much number of viewers, they have a large foundation. You guys definitely take the KBL partnership as a negative thing without even knowing what should we expect from it. Don't speculate negative things early but instead enjoy the game and betting. Smiley

Please use another choice of words the next time you describe the current status of the league. It's no doubt the league has a problem but being in extinction is definitely out of the topic.

Pardon for my choice of words, brink of extinction means that the league is already in the danger situation but that doesn't mean that they only have few years left because they still have a chance to make the league great again like it was used to be. And yes it was just a figure of speech mate, no need to make it a big deal. Revenue is not a problem in the PBA as it is still the most sought after and most watched league locally, for now. About the KBL, it is not yet tested and proven the the deal was indeed worth it. Besides, why do you think KBL decides to extend its arms?

Nevertheless, I'm still enjoying the games and betting to it Grin

Point taken. It's no secret that the league does have a problem but for sure, they can address it in the long run.

First with a big company that left in the league. With lots of companies willing to buy the franchise rights that Alaska left, they might be able to cover what this team left within several years in the making. If the league is deteriorating as a whole, no companies will risk buying a team in the league. It means the overall market is big and the opportunity to be part of it is a big opportunity to get in instead of signing a new fresh team.

Second, the KBL partnership will tighten the strength of 2 countries that want to be competitive in Asian Basketball. Also, an opportunity for our local players that might actually play overseas. I don't really have much information on what the partnership is all about but I'm sure it's good and can benefit both leagues.

About the KBL, it is not yet tested and proven the the deal was indeed worth it. Besides, why do you think KBL decides to extend its arms?

There's no testing yet since obviously, there's no final deal that was arranged yet as we speak.

We can fully give our real feedback about that, not speculated ones, once it was already take place.

They know that the popularity of the league is slowly declining already because of lack of competitiveness that they also are the reasons why it happened.
Either way, there is no other choice but to accept teams and offers outside PH just to make the league survive.

The popularity is not declining but instead, the number of viewers is the one affected. If you reading some sports page on Facebook groups and pages, the number of comments from the fans for every news, article, or scoops are still having great numbers.

Let's wait first for what's behind the partnership. It's a good development as far as PBA Marcial says. If it will give a negative thing about the league, they will not go into a partnership. These people behind PBA are not dumb to just be in a partnership without an advantage. These are professionals in making business.

But why it has only happened now? And why did Alaska suddenly decide to sell their franchise after so long? And why did Blackwater owner say in the past that he is gonna sell his team?.... I guess it will add up the story, team owners aside from SMC and Pangilinan are not happy.

To answer that, I will only be based on what I think about. Why does it only happen now? It's because Koreans are the ones who opened up the idea first that's why a partnership is expected to happen.

About Alaska suddenly deciding to sell their franchise, NO it's not suddenly but it takes a long time before they decide to do it. No one knows the real story. Refer to the news and just buy their statement. Any reasons that they never tell in their statement will be considered as guesses.

Everything outside their statement is just own opinions and speculations. Whatever it is, we as fans can give our own opinions.

But the real score on why they decided to end up their franchise ownership will remain between them and the League governors.

We are only speculating without any solid or supporting evidences, let them move forward and if there's other reasons aside from what

they are saying let future reveal itself..

We will see if they can keep up for at least a decade.

Same here mate Smiley We already knows that the league have some management issues and other minor problems, but that doesn't mean that they don't have anywhere to go and been given a verdict. Like the most of us, I'm also rooting that they can resolve these things especially now that KBL was the one who approached and offered a deal to the PBA. Hope things will go well with these partnership.

Most fans have already seen how manipulative PBA is. It's always SMC and MVP teams that are like the rivals, Aces is about to be out. While there's a former team from PBA that's going to join Filbasket. It may not look like a threat for now but soon, they'll realize that there's going to be a division of market and fans from all of these leagues. We're getting the same opinion about that we're already tired of watching almost the same scenes from PBA. But it's true that it might be a long journey for both leagues, anyway, we have to see how it will go then.

Everything outside their statement is just their own opinions and speculations. Whatever it is, we as fans can give our own opinions.

But the real score on why they decided to end up their franchise ownership will remain between them and the League governors.

We are only speculating without any solid or supporting evidence, let them move forward and if there are other reasons aside from what

they are saying let the future reveal itself.
Yes, you are right all people who love to watch Philippine Basketball Association have their own opinions to share about this topic. We all know that PBA runs for a long time and almost 59 years in services. but all the decision is from the management of this leage, and all we need to do it wait for further notice from them.

MPBL and especially FilBasket still have a long journey to catch before they can even say that these new pro leagues will be a threat to the PBA. I mean, these new pro leagues are just founded recently compared to the roots of PBA that will celebrate its 50th and golden year since it was founded this coming 2025. We will see if they can keep up for at least a decade.

For sure there will be a time for this to end if the PBA management cannot control the anomaly happening in the league, we know how huge part of this certain manipulation by big companies ao for sure in future fans will not want to watch this anymore. I don't know if PBA governors could feel the decreasing number of fans watching them so if they want to retain this business for more longer years maybe best for the management to listen the fans sentiment and they should make the league fair to the other independent teams and make the competition more higher.

NLEX continues to roll while SMB are on their 2 losing streak as well.

Slowly, SMB is climbing to the ladder and they are dangerous when they are already winning games because they'll become more consistent.
As of this writing, here are the standing.

1- Magnolia 6-0 (undefeated)
2- Meralco
3- NLEX

Nice record for Magnolia, they might end up undefeated in this conference. Also, a great run by SMB looks like they already found the right chemistry and everyone was really contributing, CJ was also very effective in this conference, he really has become a superstar in this league.

I think it's all about the internals and the officials like the commissioners. I'm not accusing them but whenever there's PBA news, most of the comments that I've been reading were all blaming the comms. Well, in the first place they really have the control and they're the decision makers of how it should be and what's next with the league. But we just have to embrace the fact that it's all about business, no matter what we, the fans will voice out. It's still them that will decide for their next actions per next seasons.

Probably because no one is interested in buying the team? I don't know, seems like PBA now is not anymore as entertaining as in the past, maybe because we can easily access to watch other leagues like local and international leagues. Either way, I still hope for the best of our Philippine basketball leaguel.

Expect SMB to go full throttle when their new import play in their next game. I admire Orlando Johnson's professionalism because he still plays with too much enthusiasm knowing that he will be replaced.

Got 2 out of 2 from last night's games, i hope this winning streak continues today.

Going for the underdogs for tonight's ball game because of high spread.

Dyip +9.5 @1.90 vs Bolts
Batang Pier +10.5 @1.80 vs Magnolia

If you are not watching PBA regularly, you will really notice that there's a declining number of fans watching them. Sorry but that's not what I see since here in our place, PBA is always part of the discussion whenever we are on "tambay" mode or "inuman" session.

I have noticed that those who are saying PBA is not impressive as before are not active on this thread. I will only believe that PBA is now on the verge of being unpopular if it will come from those veteran users here that really follow the PBA "in actual" and not just watching one single game every week or just being aware of the few players.

I also don't like the PBA politics as talents should be spread out but how can we have balance talents at all teams if other teams are not showing competitiveness to sign a good player? Of course, the player will choose a high salary.

This is the reason why other teams aren't that competitive anymore.
This is the cycle that has been going for a long time:
1. Weaker teams will get a very good player at the draft that will help them with their run.
2. When big companies such as SMC and MVP sees that this player has a good potential, they will get him and trade weaker players or a future draft picks.
3. Repeat the first and second.

This is the reason why other teams aren't competitive anymore. Big companies are offering them higher salary just to play with their team. Weaker teams are getting good players (mostly thru draft) but the problem is this big companies are just milking them and they are getting their star players. One of the many examples is the famous CJ Perez trade. I'm an SMB fan but that trade isn't fair and we know all of that. More of this kind of trades will happen in the future especially now that there is free agency and as long as this happens, the competitiveness of other teams will slowly decrease because they know that they don't have good players to compete against this better teams.

Yes, there's nothing new about that as SMC and MVP have many teams in the league. Now, it is the last season of Alaska Aces before they say goodbye in the league, but they're trying to get their 15th championship so that they can leave with a bang. Hopefully, there's something good about this new partnership with the KBL because MPBL and FilBasket are just around the corner.

Yeah I head that also, that there's a former PBA team that will going to join the FilBasket but they didn't gave any information regarding about that yet. Surely, it wasn't Aces.
