Not a good news. Converge not making a move for Slaughter, denies trade talks with MagnoliaTHOUGH in need of a big man, new PBA team Converge isn't jumping into the Greg Slaughter sweepstakes.
Converge governor Chito Salud said they respect the current negotiations between free agent Slaughter and his mother team Northport Batang Pier, even if the talks have taken an acrimonious turn the past two days.
I thought that Greg is a great candidate for the team as he is currently free agent if I'm not mistaken. Greg proved his worth with NP, so for a new team, I think he is a big help to make a successful debut... anyway, let's just follow updates regarding this new team. Another issue with Greg's contract, if I remember it right he post something from the social media site that he haven't got any deal from his team (NP) from that post, he mentioned that things seems to be a repeated scenario with his former team (Ginebra) he's still willing to his fate and hoping that he will have another chance to play to whichever team that will sign him up, he will continue to focus in improving his game and continue to learn more in his basketball skills. Let's wait for further updates about Greg, but Converge might be a good place for him if ever NP failed to sign him back.

Let's go to the finish line. If the Meralco is really decided to reshuffle, what's the sense of exit interview if those people who are being asked are already considered to leave. For example, Meralco told Maliksi that they will trade him but in the exit interview, Maliksi said he wants to stay with the team. Will it change Meralco's plan and decide to keep him instead? The same goes for other players and staff.
This exit interview is pure of non-sense by Meralco. As if that will change the future of the players to stay on the team.
I agree with you, this exit interview is non-sense IMO. Whatever the players will/have said in the interview would not change the plan of the management if ever there is because the talent level of the players won't improve through interviews, the management has to trade so that they can get the positions they want to fill in. Have read in my social media feed that all of the players of Meralco are vulnerable except for Aaron Black, . At the back of all this talk, if Meralco already decides about the fate of each team member, there's no bearing anymore to whatever the players and all the staff to said, it's all on the franchise owner's side to whoever they wanted to continue and who will be those that needed to trade up, They've got that power especially if players already end their contracts from team, most likely they don't have any choice if the decision of the management is to trade them for more valuable assets.

I think if ever there are no ongoing issues currently between NorthPort and Greg Slaughter, it will be easy for Converge to enter the story. If NorthPort is really decided to not work on any new contract regarding Greg, they should just finalize their decision so everyone will now move on. Honestly, there's still no clear progress on this as both parties' statements are not matching. Let's wait for further progress. Another drama but I hope will settle soon. PBA trades without drama involved are somehow boring.

Well, we don't know what's in their mind. If they're willing to trade then during the interview, they have already said that and the player would make up his mind to allow him to stay. We don't know what's going to happen with all of them but the next conference is coming. So whether you think it's nonsense, it's okay and if I think that's brilliant for them asking who's willing to stay for their careers, it's also okay.
Maybe the purpose of the exit interview is only for those players who are likely to get traded. Like a briefing that they will be traded possibly but no exact timeframe is given. It's awkward if the said player will insist to stay knowing they become a candidate for the trade which means the team already didn't approve of the recent performance they have shown in the post-elimination round. In my own opinion, this exit interview should just be done after the All-Filipino Cup. It's really hard for locals to make an adjustment if all the time, the play is designed for the import. It's good to judge and rate these locals after an All-Filipino Cup where no imports are part of the rotation.

Yeah, it's quite odd to interview someone that will be traded if it's already on their plans. Maybe, they'll tell that a player is about to be traded and they'll ask if he's okay with that or if he truly wants to stay with them. Well, at the end of it, it's just going to be about the business then.

I'm starting to believe that this Greg Slaughter got some attitude. How can NorthPort not contacted this guy as they really wanted a man to man the middle for them so for me NorthPort is the one that is telling the truth. NorthPort has said that Greg Slaughter is asking more than the maximum but as we all knew that NorthPort that bog compared to SMB or MVP companies so this whole scenario might be leading to a trade so that NorthPort can get value from Slaughter. They have the right to this big man so i think they can make a deal with Converge in the coming weeks.

Converge is a great option as well, but let’s see if Greg will still ask for more or settle with the offer, we’ll find out as time is running and the new conference will start again.

Greg can bring his talent abroad, so probably the reason why he is asking for a maximum that is higher than what NP can give is that he has an option to play abroad, or probably other teams could be interested with him. Actually, as of now, I think Greg now is a better player compared to JMF.

If I read it right from social media, NP negotiates with Greg offering him a max contract, but Gregg is asking for something above from that max contract, something that will be discussed behind the door. NP is willing to give him what the association is allowing, but not the perks that Gregg is looking. That's why he didn't sign it, I'm not sure who's telling the truth here, but seems it's Gregg or his agent has some issues. If he's aiming for a better deal, he can try playing outside, not sure though if space for a big fellow like him is far more important since teams are more likely to pay big players who can dominate and help them inside the paint something that other raises can provide and are more valuable for contracts to help the team.

Greg seemed to value himself so high, that he is negotiating like the team could not resist him. Well, NP is not a big market in the PBA, he should have ask the SMB or TNT, maybe he will get the offer. What if the TNT will sign him? I think TNT would be able to match the SMB and BGSM, and the next season will be more exciting.

Without an official statement from NorthPort that was all lies. Greg Slaughter already debunked that story and shared his own. We don't really know what's happening behind the doors as there's an agreement that Greg can't go to other teams that's why Converge didn't consider entering the situation to try getting Greg. It's good that we drama to follow in PBA.

Here's the latest story about the Slaughter-NorthPort drama: NorthPort maximum offer to Slaughter submitted to PBA, says MarcialI will highlight some of the notable statements from the article: - PBA commissioner Willie Marcial bared on Friday that a multi-year NorthPort offer for Greg Slaughter that was submitted to the league office contained renumeration to the tune of the maximum P420,000 a month. - Gregg talked to the Northport team manager about a contract extension in January. The manager said that they will get back to him but never heard back. - NorthPort team manager responded that a contract offer was emailed and sent to Slaughter via courier on January 29. Tan also sent screen shots of the two communications as proof. Tan also claimed Slaughter demanded the 'highest PBA salary' which he said was beyond the league maximum of P420,000 a month. - Slaughter said the NorthPort offer was only meant to keep the franchise's signing rights on the restricted free agent and the renumeration was "less than half of what Greg is currently being paid by NorthPort. Let's wait for the next chapter of this event. There is clearly a misunderstanding here.

Actually, php 420k is very low compared to what Greg could earn if he plays abroad. And considering the status of NP in the PBA, they are not a championship team so Greg would not be receiving bonuses unlike other teams like Ginebra, TNT, Magnolia or SMB who have a decent chance of winning a championship.

But does he have an offer abroad already? If not, then he should not ask more than the maximum the PBA could give, otherwise, a team has no choice but not to sign him. We all know he is good but no team would violate the rules and face the consequences afterwards. And considering the status of NP in the PBA, they are not a championship team so Greg would not be receiving bonuses unlike other teams like Ginebra, TNT, Magnolia or SMB who have a decent chance of winning a championship.
That's right, NP players won't be receiving bonuses like players in Ginebra, TNT, and other good teams because NP does not usually go to the finals, in short, they are not a championship team.

If he can get other offer outside the country, then it's good for him, he's not tied to any obligation here and he can simply packed his bag and fly to whatever destination the offer can be, but, there's no update yet if someone from oversea who wanted his service, he's stuck within the league and the max offer a player can earn here is 420k that is what the league rules. Those important things that you mentioned about bonuses are things that Gregg enjoyed when he still playing at Ginebra, perks that really give him additional bonuses in which he can't have while wearing NP's uniform.

The way I saw it, Greg Slaughter would be okay if he received that 420K max contract that the NorthPort team has said they offer to him but seeing in one article that what he received is far less from what is stipulated on the contract so someone must be lying here and i think there are two documents that Greg must have signed hehe. Check this article and see if you believe in this. Two days ago, free agent Greg Slaughter broke that unwritten code by asserting via a comment on a SPIN.ph story that the "max offer" of P420,000 a month which he supposedly demanded was "not even close to what NorthPort was already paying me."

Due to the inflation now, I think the max salary of a player has to be reviewed already as I think it has not increased for many years already.

This might not be related to PBA but it's still basketball in the country. UP became the champion on this recent UAAP season 84. After 34 years, they've became a champion again. Are there people here who have been tuning in on this league as well? I've just seen it on my feed so I've thought of sharing it here since it's also a league and basketball. Well, some UP players are already graduate and might join PBA as well sooner or later. Rivero is already graduate, I wonder if he’s included in the recent draft and join PBA right away.

I'm not really a fan of UAAP and like you, the news regarding it just passed in my social media newsfeed, and just curious also some of my colleagues at work are betting on that games offline. Could have won big if I'm a fan of UP since here in my place they are a huge underdog hehe. Anyways, congrats to UP and hope they can do it back to back even without the backing of the rich sponsors hehe.
