Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

Of the fairly obviously NPO's, Bitcoin 100 has taken it upon ourselves to fund them, sometimes with very little discussion as of late. Reason being is that a certain trust has been bestowed upon us to which types of charities should be funded, always mindful that we would rather not have an undue fallout occur if funding the wrong type of charity were to happen
That said, that's why I felt it imperative to have a continuing dialog about SSDP so that a more informed decision could be made. I have stated in no uncertain terms that I'm sitting squarely on the fence with this cause, but now I'm leaning toward a yes, albeit not heavily.
Please help us make the best informed decision possible by providing input, whether pro or con, or whether a member or not, for such a decision would affect all bitcoiners directly and indirectly.
Thank you in advance,
Bruno Kucinskas

Got word back from the university. Unfortunately, if a club wants to take donations it has to go through a web page on the university site. We can't have deposits going directly into the chapter's bank account. Side note: Legally, SSDP consists of two separate, distinct entities – Students for Sensible Drug Policy Foundation and Students for Sensible Drug Policy Inc. The former, as a 501(c)3 organization, engages in education and outreach. Donations to SSDP Foundation are tax-deductible. SSDP Inc, as a 501(c)4 organization, engages in advocacy, or attempts to effect change to law and policy. Accordingly, donations to SSDP Inc are not tax-deductible...

How does the SSDP Foundation itself accept donations? Would it be possible to contact them and encourage them to accept bitcoins on a national scale? In other news, the list of charities and the status of each had finally been updated on the website: http://bitcoin100.org/charities/Please let me know if I missed anything.

SSDP neither condones nor condemns drug use, rather we respect the right of individuals to make decisions about their own health and well-being. I feel more comfortable now endorsing this organization if someway, somehow a Bitcoin donation option were embedded (no pun intended [bed]) onto their website.

In other news, the list of charities and the status of each had finally been updated on the website: http://bitcoin100.org/charities/Please let me know if I missed anything. Yay! Thanks! Could you please change Equine Angels Rescue from "no response" to "pending?" They are interested, but they are a bit busy fighting a lawsuit right now. Someone's horse was severely malnourished, so it was taken away from them and given to Equine Rescue, and now the owner is suing them saying the horse was wrongfully taken away. They shouldn't have problems winning this sit, but it's a hassle and a pain. Harvest Lots was rejected, not accepted. Regarding Virtual Doctors, apparently hey are accepting bitcoins now, and just slapped an address on their website http://www.virtualdoctors.org/other-ways-to-donate/ I hope they ca put it to use somehow. Guess I'll send out a donation? I talked to Bitcoinstore. Their distributor does't have medical supplies, but Bitcoinstore is very much open to adding such stuff to their site. So if anyone can find a medical supply distributor, let me know and I'll hook them up with Bitcoinstore guys.

We have received 0.09BTC from 1GaeLnmuz4UH62s41RKMgEGGwygYRyseef in our account. Is this you? Is this a test amount? Thanks very much Regarding equipment we are always needing to buy cheap/basic but sturdy PCs here in the UK to ship out to Africa, and also basic digital cameras are needed too. We don't provide medical supplies ( we connect rural clinics in Africa with doctors around the world for advice via the internet so we are a technology / information charity rather than a provider of care http://www.virtualdoctors.org) so that is not really a priority for us. Thanks

Thanks Nope, not me. I'll send you the money tonight. If you just need PCs, I'd suggest Bitcoinstore.com. You may need to contact them to set up the shipping to Africa thing. Feel free to point them my way if they want proof that you are a charity. I'm sure they will enjoy the extra publicity, too.

I just wanted to bump the SSDP discussion request one more time. Please feel free to weigh in on this subject, otherwise we at Bitcoin 100 will make the best decision on our own to either fund them or not if they opt to embed a Bitcoin donation option onto their website. Rest assure, we'll do our damndest to make sure our actions are for the betterment of Bitcoin. ~Bruno~

I'm leaning toward a yes. Rassah, edd and Jason can publically weigh in on their feelings prior to having SSCP moving forward in having a Bitcoin donation option embedded onto their website.

Yes for me too. Of course all this is predicated on whether or not SSDP opts to embed a Bitcoin donation option onto their website.

Yes for me too. Of course all this is predicated on whether or not SSDP opts to embed a Bitcoin donation option onto their website. We're talking about the national organization now, right? I'm happy with donating to either but, if I understood Red Emerald correctly, it's not possible to donate directly to the Chapter; donations must go through the University. So either the SSDP Foundation or the University must have a Bitcoin donation option in order for this to work and I was under the impression that the SSDP Foundation has not been contacted yet.
