Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits

Hello Rassah,
How are you?

Can I recommend a 501c3 non profit for the Bitcoin100 donation?  There is a group that I am trying to get to start using Bitcoin that is in the process of creating their "BTC donate" button.

Generation Green empowers citizens to voice their concerns and implement earth saving actions. Through heightened awareness we encourage wise choices that ensure sustainable living and the preservation of the environment.



Since 1990, Generation Green (a 501c3) has sought to inform and encourage environmental action in CCC. Generation Green has hosted dozens of workshops and attended countless events. Our efforts have reached all segments of the community. From local arts and crafts classes to attendance at City Council meetings—our goal is to educate all residents in the county about environmental issues.

I just received a PM from steelboy (a user on this forum) and he has given me permission to copy and paste the following:

Now that my coins are safely back in my wallet I have started a BTC business based in the UK.

The website is under construction right now but our twitter page is up and running. You might notice the big gap over the last few months where i lost quite a lot of heart during the instawallet stuff. :/ Anyway, we are up and running again and are looking at selling our first physical coins at a London meetup tomorrow night at The Pembury Tavern in Hackney, London's first BTC accepting pub.

Bobsbitcoins will pledge 5% of any profits from the sale of physical coins over August, September & October to the bitcoin100 program.

If you feel like tweeting about that that would be great and will help raise awareness of us too.

Not really sure what to expect but i know there are going to be buyers there and i am sure we will be the cheapest so let's see how it goes.

I will get back to you on Tuesday to tell you how we do.

I think that an ad campaign is a fantastic idea.  Maybe a banner ad here on the forum at least, if not that radio spot in particular.  I've been poking around the forums for a while now, and just heard about this project.  I think a bit of advertising might do the trick nicely.  Even very frugal non-profits budget money for fundraising expense.  Recruiting donors is a necessary part of doin' good in my opinion.

Nothing is stopping you from running ads yourself, but people who donated to the Bitcoin100 expect the money to go to charities as much as possible.

I was interviewed by WIRED magazine this morning for Sean's Outpost. I talked a lot about the work Bitcoin100 has done spreading the word on BTC to charities. Hopefully that makes it to print. I will keep you guys posted!

I would like to contribute at least 1 BTC and would like to recommend a 501c3, The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte. I am the President of the organization and am very confident that they are willing toaccept BTC.

Quick recap of some major programs done by the DSA-GC:

Camp Horizon - sends kids with Down Syndrome to an overnight camp, normally they are excluded from most camp program. Camp is run by volunteers and greatly subsidized by the organiza tion.

321 Dash - (Bitcoin 100 could sponsor with its donation) 5k to spead awarenes, all proceeds are donated  to Research Down Syndrome

First Call - trained volunteer parents to connect new parents to once they receive a diagnosis

Together in Education - provide schools training material, rresource, and contacts to assist teachers with children in their classrooms
