I would like to contribute at least 1 BTC and would like to recommend a 501c3, The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte. I am the President of the organization and am very confident that they are willing toaccept BTC.
Quick recap of some major programs done by the DSA-GC:
Camp Horizon - sends kids with Down Syndrome to an overnight camp, normally they are excluded from most camp program. Camp is run by volunteers and greatly subsidized by the organiza tion.
321 Dash - (Bitcoin 100 could sponsor with its donation) 5k to spead awarenes, all proceeds are donated to Research Down Syndrome
First Call - trained volunteer parents to connect new parents to once they receive a diagnosis
Together in Education - provide schools training material, rresource, and contacts to assist teachers with children in their classrooms
Thank you for your consideration!
Seems pretty straight forward. I would say get a bitcoin address/donation option on that site (we tend to pinp for BitPay, since the're easy and free for non-profits). Anyone else have any objections? EDIT: Also, this happened: http://www.generationgreen.com/ Brand new BTC donation button on that site. If no objections, I'll send out money tomorrow evening.

I think that an ad campaign is a fantastic idea. Maybe a banner ad here on the forum at least, if not that radio spot in particular. I've been poking around the forums for a while now, and just heard about this project. I think a bit of advertising might do the trick nicely. Even very frugal non-profits budget money for fundraising expense. Recruiting donors is a necessary part of doin' good in my opinion.
Nothing is stopping you from running ads yourself, but people who donated to the Bitcoin100 expect the money to go to charities as much as possible. I'm planning on doing some PR efforts relating to using bitcoin for nonprofits, in conjunction with promoting my own physical bitcoin company. I'll be sure to include a discussion of Bitcoin100 in those conversations. My point was more that if a relatively small percentage spent on advertising increases the total amount donated by a proportionally large amount, then it completely makes sense to advertise until you're not getting ROI on the ads. The people being helped aren't going to mind if you're strategic about raising the money if it means they get more help. There's a well written book called "Uncharitable" by Dan Pallotta on the subject. Here's a TED talk by Pallotta that explains the point succinctly. http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_pallotta_the_way_we_think_about_charity_is_dead_wrong.html

Got this e-mail today: Hi Rassah,
………
I'm leaning towards "no" since we're not exactly a money making machine. Thought maybe this will help us become one? Comments? I lean to "no", too. He may have you on the show for free but I would strongly suggest not to divert any of the donations towards ads. Concur, for the time being.

I just took the time to check all the above, and happy to say they all look swell, albeit having a slight reservation about http://www.eigeninitiativ-im-alter-berlin.dePlease take a few secs, anybody, to do a little checking on your own to make sure they're not too new and up-and-up. I spent the most time on this one, and am still perplex, but no big red flags raising, hence asking for further input. I will most definitely give my blessing if nothing is found and the others at Bitcoin 100 feel all is fine. That's best I can do shy of giving a full indorsement but, once again, nothing too troubling.

I was interviewed by WIRED magazine this morning for Sean's Outpost. I talked a lot about the work Bitcoin100 has done spreading the word on BTC to charities. Hopefully that makes it to print. I will keep you guys posted!
I remember you! You're that lazy f*** that's always hiding when there's work to be done. Hopefully, during the course of the interview, you mentioned Rassah's coffee table.

If people want to spend money to promote Bitcoin100, why not just have them spend the money directly? I'm ok with holding even more money, but I'm not sure if there's a need for it...

If a bunch of people pitch in to buy an add spot that would do much more than their individual small amounts, which might not be enough to buy anything by themselves.

If a bunch of people pitch in to buy an add spot that would do much more than their individual small amounts, which might not be enough to buy anything by themselves. Exactly. Plus its a good idea for a handful of people that know what they are doing to handle the promotional expenditure. I will happily donate to Bitcoin100 altruistically. On a completely separate front though, Bitcoins could really benefit from smart public relations efforts. Bitcoin100 represents a great opportunity to gain sympathetic media attention. As I'm sure many of us do, I have a vested interested in bitcoin's success. As such, contributing to people that are strategic and know what their doing when publicly promoting the currency is high on my to-do list. It helps everyone who has invested their time and money in bitcoin. On the other hand, advertising and promoting and interfacing with media is a skill. Plenty of advertisements accomplish the exact opposite of what they were intending because they are put out by those who don't understand how to influence people. If we want it to be done effectively, it makes sense to get money into the hands of professionals for the purposes of promoting things like Bitcoin100. We need good stories to counteract the bad ones (like the ones that equate bitcoin with drugs and criminals and child porn and money laundering, etc.) and Bitcoin100 is a good story that needs to be done right. I will also happily donate to a bitcoin100 promotional fund if that's how you guys want to do it. I'll even put you guys in touch with the best ad buyers and PR gurus in the world. Maybe we can get them to do some of this promotion for free. My main purpose though was to chime in and say that there is nothing wrong with advertising (and working every other possible angle) to maximize donations, as long as you're aiming to do good.

Hello all,
Is there some kind of brochure document that explains Bitcoin 100 and can be sent to prospective non-profits thinking of adopting bitcoin as a method of accepting donations?
If yes, can I take a look at it?
And if no, happy to lend a hand creating one... think it would be quite useful.

Quoting here: Hi I've been helping a friend set up a new website to help victims of domestic violence to talk about their stories anonymously. A lot of victims are isolated, afraid to talk about the abuse and violence for fear of being blamed, that their children will be taken away, that they may not be taken seriously, or many many other reasons. This site aims to help people share stories and build a supportive community and improve understanding for professionals of the issues that victims face. The website is http://everydaydva.org. I didn't really find too many answers on the bitcoin100.org about how the scheme works... so here are some questions. Sorry if there are answers on the forum but I find it fairly difficult to understand the scheme. It is not a registered charity, but a bank account for the organisation is being set up. It is also based in the UK. Does this count as eligible? What other conditions are there? If bitcoin can help the organisation it would be amazing and could change the lives of the many silent and suffering victims of domestic violence, it would be totally amazing Thanks Alex Discuss?

No, no brochure. Just the website.

From a marketing standpoint, I've been having a very difficult time redefining the 100 aspect of Bitcoin 100. At the onset, it made perfect sense, but no longer. Can we brainstorm to the nth degree to come up with what the 100 could mean so that years down the road it wouldn't once again lose its meaning?
