Cardiff RFC, Scarlets and the Harlequins.  (At least I got most of my money back on the Cardiff game)

I had only one bet on for the weekend on the French Top14, that was La Rochelle v Toulouse
with the massive outsiders Toulouse to win, they went out to 11.0 so I jumped on that with a
small wager and it all seemed like a very enticing wager

But damnit it was a close match with La Rochelle edging the win with a last gasp penalty kick
to win by 3, failing that it was going to a draw.

Just goes to show that there are so many things which can go for or against a team in Rugby,
I would say more so than in Soccer?

Only Stade Francais and Vannes didn't win their games all the other favourites did so.

In Japan, Shizuoka, Canon Eagles, Wild Knights and Suntory all won their matches.

The Lion's tour isn't until August, but the odds are against Australia ($2.50) with the English and Irish Lions favoured at $1.55 to win.  (drawn series is going for $26)

Is Rugby a ""safe"" to bet sport on favorites? Or is like in any other sport? And as i dont like to bet on the favorites and i like to go more into underdogs, is easy to see some surprise results with good odds?.

Its pretty much like any other sport really, favourites with low unbackable odds
always win, Favourites with short odds do sometimes get beaten for example
Munster v Saracens above.

Racing Metro to win @ 6.5 - TBH I wouldnt take that, Glasgow Warriors are a much
improved side and are reigning URC champions.

What I might go with is La Rochelle to beat Leinster @ 2.50 - that is wort a bet if
you wanted to try betting against the favourites.

Sometimes it pays to know a lit bit about the various teams. Even the NRL has its upsets - even when one team is top of the ladder and gets thrashed in a much anticipated match up.

This year I'm experimenting with placing wagers on the favourites in the NRL owing to the disparaging difference between the top of the table, the midzone and the bottom of the barrel who should be relegated.

As an experiment I bet on twenty games yesterday in the women's tennis in Australia (betting just on the favourites)... About a quarter of the games the favourite lost.

Yea I have been meaning to do this approach too, especially if there are half decent
odds on the favourites with also a fair degree of a mismatch in opponents.

This weekend though in the French European Cup I have a wager on La Rochelle to beat
Leinster @ 2.72. La Rochelle are at home and these are two top sides with a lot
of recent history between them.

Stormers to beat Sale @ 1.34
Toulouse to win away to the Sharks @ 1.24

Favourites dont always win bar a few top sides. Like every sport at the highest level
there are many factors which are at play and contribute to a win/loss.

My two favourite bets Stormers and Toulouse have won their matches, just hoping
for an upset this evening with La Rochelle winning

Toulouse won, as did the Stormers with very short odds.

Biarritz, Agen, Valence Romans, Kobe Steel, Northampton all were favoured to win (sometimes with very short odds) but lost out to their competitors on the day.

Yea and last weekend my bet on La Rochelle didnt win, they were beaten by 2
points and had a last minute long range penalty kick but didnt make it, that would
have been a win!


Champions Cup Rugby is on this weekend as is the Challenge cup.

I want to back Leinster ahead of Bath but their odds are bad at 1.09. I think they
are actually in line for some silverware this year with some key players this year
like the All Black Jordie Barrett.

I've gone under 54.5 @ 1.72 on this one.

La Rochelle's loss to Benetton last weekend in the Champions Cup was a massive
upset. They were favourites to win that and should have won that after a close
encounter with Lei ster the previous weekend.

The Champions Cup takes a break until April but the URC is back on this weekend
with Ospreys v Benetton on Friday. Odds are 1.31 - 3.30, can Benetton create another upset?

The French Top14 and D2 tournaments are on this weekend, La Rochelle play
Lyon, they really need to be winning that.

absolutely not - not only can they not create an upset they couldnt even score!
Final score 43 - 0.

I've done another 2 bets in the URC, I've gone with Leinster to beat the Stormers
at 1.20 and Munster to beat the Dragons @ 1.22.

These are the only ones I can see with a bit of value while going with favourites.

Scarlets v Edinburgh are playing next, the odds are 1.66 v 2.10, I think Edinburgh
could win this.

Oyonnax, Harlequins, Aurilliac, Angouleme, Nevers and Valance Romans all winning their games.

Anyway we have the lead in week for the Six Nations - finally, it seems like that
was a long wait through January.

This Friday gets the series up and running with France v Wales, odds on
France are closed but if you want to take a gamble on Wales they are 22.0!

That was brilliant odds on France, earlier in the week they were unbackable and
Wales were 22.0! which by the looks of it was a realistic odds. France as we
say here "put Rugby out of Wales' heads" - crazy for Wales not to be able to put
points on the scoreboard. France arent as good as the scoreboard points to.


Up next is Scotland v Italy, have to fancy the Scots at home. If it was in Italy
the Italians would certainly have a better chance.

Following that will be a close one between Iteland and England.

Yea for Scotland it was a win they will be delighted about, getting a win in the first
match sets up the championship nicely. Italy are definitely an improved team, they
have been improving year on year. Scotland too, they have some top class players, they
play Ireland next.

Ireland had a tough first half despite having more possession and slightly
more territory but in the second half they performed better and secured their
bonus point but disappointing that they let England in in the dying minutes with
an easy try to secure their losing bonus point.
