It's such a shame what happened to Monaco and Marseille. Marseille is at least at fourth place, but if they didn't had such a terrible three weeks in a row, they could have been third, and there is still a slight possibility that they could be third if Lyon starts to lose games and considering Lyon has been on a great streak, eventually losing points is a possibility for them.

However Monaco is even in worse situation, they are 8th right now and doing worse. These are teams I expected to be second and third place based on how much money they spent and how they looked before the season started, so them being fourth and eight instead is a very tough situation for them, doesn't look that great for them at all.

Yes, that's really sad for both of them. Especially Monaco are far worse than last season. Their main problem is with the defense. They have just conceded the amount of they scored...

I doubt they can qualify for a European tournament with this form. The most they can do looks like the Europa League even if they make it.

It's because the gap is only 3 points with the 5th place...

Combining the wins of Lens and PSG gives us a total of 1.93 odds. After the surprising Rennes loss I don't think PSG will make a mistake this time. Metz are literally the worst team in the league now.  

On the other hand I'm wondering if this will be a game in which Lens lose points. But when the way Lens destroyed Monaco earlier comes to my mind, I just don't want to give Monaco much of a chance...

Winning the Ligue 1 title isn't their primary goal. Their main objective this year is to win the Champions League again. They know how to do it because they won the championship last year from a similar situation. However, many teams are already developing strategies against them this year. Therefore, Paris Saint-Germain needs to win the French league first to achieve their primary goal.

PSG vs Lens next match is by April, from now till then, we will judge them based on the matches they will be playing until then. Lens are more consistent, PSG are doing their best which isn't enough, they should take every game from henceforth seriously because it is what matters most at the time unless they have plans of not winning the league, PSG also struggled against Monaco in the Champions League, PSG are going through bad phases and they have to manage it through, at least with their domestic league, as it seems the Champions League isn't for them.

PSG is underperforming slightly when compared to the previous season, but they are still doing better than in 2023-24 season.
What I like to do is calculate average points per game, which, I think, is a pretty good way to measure performance and whether or not a team is over or underperforming.
Avg points for PSG:
2025/26:  2.32
2024/25: 2.47
2023/24: 2.24

The fact that PSG lost the position of the table leader to Lens (again) is not necessarily an indication of anything bad happening to PSG. It's just Lens stepped up to the challenge and give PSG a run for their money.
PSG performance is 3.6% better than in 2023/24 when they won Ligue 1 with 9 points advantage over runner up, Monaco.

Lyon has good position by securing the top third standings and has opportunity for qualifying to Champion League next season, remaining 5 points from Marseille should be comfortable position for Lyon has impressive performance keep the winning trend last 9 matches in a row at Ligue 1. Lyon must consistent playing well and get three points every games regarding have to face the top teams at 12 matches left from facing Marseille, AS Monaco, PSG and exactly will face Lens.
Seeing the current points, Marseille is the close team for stopping Lyon finish at 3rd position place if can defeating them three weeks later I think Lyon actually secure the top third position, if want back to the Ligue 1 tittle race I think bit difficult by stopping Lens and PSG has gap more than 7 points.

Considering this season Lyon almost got relegated and was in the verge of not even being in the league, playing this good is definitely a great feeling for them.

They are at third place right now, only trailing Lens and PSG who are fighting for the title, and all thanks to them getting a good winning streak when Marseille ended up losing too many points back to back to back. Lyon being third and going to UCL even though they were almost relegated shows resilience of the team without a doubt.

Yes, this can happen because there are still several matches left and they can be a source of points. Their margin is also narrow, which means that with one mistake from Lens, PSG must be able to take advantage properly. But if PSG loses points again, that's a bad sign.

Those statistics are just history and they are going through this year under different conditions. PSG is still better this year, but Lens is good and could earn more points. Lens could become a surprise for PSG, and that's not impossible. PSG must work hard to defend the league title this season.
