What will happen to Portugal after the Ronaldo era? Some of the other key players will be retiring soon (Rui Patrício, Pepe, José Fonte, João Moutinho.etc). It will be very difficult for Portugal to replace all these players and fill the vacuum. I have heard a lot about players such as Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos, but not sure whether they will be able to handle the pressure at top level. Anyway, for now let's wait and watch for their performance in Qatar 2022. Portugal is in a relatively easy group, along with Ghana, Uruguay and Korea. Qualifying for the next phase should be a cakewalk.

The fact that Pepe still plays and gets into the national team, by the way, is a more amazing achievement than, for example, the fact that Ibrahimovic is still playing. In the attack, it is more likely that the time depends on you when you have to strain and make a breakthrough, and in defense you are always led and even if there are no forces, but the enemy is attacking, you must give all your best at 200% and not take a break. And I must also say that despite the fact that a whole generation is leaving Portugal, young players are very promising and quite possibly will be a worthy replacement and will continue to fight for titles.

Ibrahimovic playing at 40 is just insane. I would say Lewandowski, who kicked him out, at 33 is already at the older bracket, and this is probably going to be his last world cup with Poland.

My guess is that a younger squad will get the cup this time. Still not sure which one, excited to see the start of the world cup, there has been so many covid delays!

I think Ibrahimovic can afford to play at 40 and this means that maybe even Cristiano who says this will be his last World Cup can afford to play at least another Euro if not even another World Cup,that would not surprise me at all considering the physical form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

As for the winners I think it will be difficult to predict but I think Argentina deserve to win this having one of the most talented teams if we compare individual players of each team,this is just my opinion though.

Well yes, without a doubt I would think that Argentina has a great generation of relief, I don't know very well how the relief generation is in Portugal, but I think that CR7 will be able to prepare them, 40 years old he is still a very young person, perhaps as you say, for the physical condition of CR7 it is admirable, his body is very worked, he has a very athletic preparation, in one of his matches, the commentators said that before being a footballer he was an athlete and this gives him a big plus in his career, in addition to the jumps he makes when heading the ball are unique, makes goalkeepers see that they are not so tall.

Good job well done for Ukraine as they managed to shock critics yesterday. Tbh I was thinking they will be beaten  mercilessly but then, football can be quite surprising and unpredictable. A 3-1 win was a good way to assert their position in the world cup if you ask me.

Hm almighty USA? We are still talking about football (soccer), right? 
England shouldn't have big problems with their group, I think they are a whole class higher than them. They will easily beat 2 out of their 3 opponents (USA, Iran and Wales or Ukraine) which will be enough for qualification to the next round. I think they will come out on top of their group.
The USA can be happy if they do win a single game and don't come out last in their group.

France are indeed worthy to be considered as candidates, but I'm disappointed they lost last night's match against Denmark, actually France took the lead with Benzema's goal in the 51st minute. But in the end Denmark was able to get a goal back and also managed to win the match and with last night's result, I see Austria and Denmark have something that might surprise later. Anyway, I have to watch out for them and reconsider when I have to bet with them, because I also remember them at the Euro yesterday Denmark which made it to the semi-finals it looks like they still have that ability this event too.

The problem with France is that they always look stronger on paper, but that strength doesn't always get transferred to the field when they are playing. Anyway, they are the defending champions and will be one of the favorites this time as well. On top of that, they have the best players available in their squad, such as Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann, Presnel Kimpembe, Raphaël Varane, Paul Pogba, Ousmane Dembélé and Olivier Giroud. It will be very difficult to find a more star studded side, even among the CONMEBOL teams. But my sixth sense tells me that this time it is going to be one of the South American teams.

I'm not even sure England will go through to the second stage though...

Group B is made up of England, USA, Iran, and either Wales or Ukraine depending on their upcoming match. I think Ukraine will win and go through the group as well, and maybe US qualifies, possibly leaving England behind.

We'll have to wait and see. Only a few months left.

Croatia vs Austria 0-3: Austria is not qualified. Croatia had to suffer their first defeat against them.
France vs Denmark 1-2: Those two are in the same World Cup group and France is one of the favorites, but they had to suffer a defeat against Denmark
Belgium vs Netherlands 1-4: Belgium is rank 2 of the FIFA ranking, quite a high defeat for them
Spain vs Portugal 1-1: Always an interesting duel. Ronaldo only played the last 30minutes
Czech Rep vs Switzerland 2-1: The Czech Rep is not qualified, but Switzerland is.

From the EU side I would say Germany has most chances of playing final. Brazil and Argentina are my favorite for this worldcup. Its heartbreaking to see Messi in action in his last fifa worldcup. I wanna see Argentina lifting this worldcup, that will be best farewell to world's best footballer aka Messi.

Realistically, it is an irrelevant competition and coaches mostly use it to give young players the opportunity to play and to prove that they can replace older players, such as Dalic, the Croatian coach, did in the match between Croatia and Austria.
All those national teams and players will be completely ready when the World Cup comes.

The competition level in fifa World Cup is way ahead of friendly and league matches. I do agree that results of Natioanl leagues won't matter to extent that on there basis we can predict World Cup results. From EU side, my prediction is that only Germany has the ability to reach final.

LOL.. everyone was posting about France winning the world cup this time in Qatar.. and BOOM!.. they went down against Danmark. And the funny thing is that France was leading 1-0 (Karim Benzema scored the goal in 51st minute of play), and then conceded two goals (Andreas Cornelius) later to lose the match. In the end, Danmark won, despite the fact that France had 60% of the possession and 3x more shots. Anyway, they have three more fixtures this month in the nations league. The opponents are Croatia and Austria.

Well , for me , this will be the first World Cup that will be held during the Winter and I must say that it will be an unique experience for almost everyone as Fifa is doing this for first time. Now ...favorites ? Well, you might find this funny or not true but I don't like Messi at all but I support Argentina national whenever they play with Messi becoming my favorite haha. Why ? Well I think it all started when I was young and won on Fifa 2004 a local tournament with players a lot more experienced and older than me and got around 20 euro and gave it to my mom ...it was all due to Argentina massive team even since then so yea , my favorite will always be Argentina when they play World Cup.

As a second place,  I will have to choose Belgium but after what I saw from them with Netherlands ...well...I have big doubts. Also , a lot of important players had a very long season this year and I'm afraid they won't get the necessary time to fully recover until next season being and also until November to be in full force... .

I see your points, however, normally the World Cup would be starting in 1-2 weeks. Now this year it is exceptional with the November/December schedule, however, do you think that the players will be less tired and more ready then? It will be in the middle of the new season and players might not have their heads clear for a World Cup.
Of course the Nations League is not a huge or prestigeous tournament, but argueably it is quite bit above the level of just friendly games.

I saw Belgium ranked #1 on a rankings site, is that correct ?  I see they had some success but I presume forthcoming games will correct these rankings quite alot.  The odds favor Netherlands over Belgium in their next game which is  what I would guess also but with Netherlands ranked 10 maybe these arent so accurate at the moment. 
Heat could be a major factor in this next world cup, the experience and familiarity of players ability to adapt to different circumstances could determine games.

Portugal is not what it used to be like before,  sometimes ago Portugal is a one of the best teams in world cup, but the team is lacking the strength they used to possess.  Christiano Ronaldo is only the sure player in Portugal right now and his age right now can also be a barrier to his performance in the team.

It true that this World Cup will kick off in November in Qatar. AFAIK, the winter in Gulf countries are never extreme. You cant say winter in Qatar are as extreme as they are in Europe or rest of the world. We can say it will be a moderate temperature in November. I too siding with Argentina ever since I started following football, prime reason is there versatile playing strategy aka short passes.

Yes, Felix can. He already has the best mentor It reminds me of a time when Ronaldo himself was a rising young talent and was training with the legendary Figo.

For me, I think England has a high probability of winning it as long as their defence dosent crumble like it did aganist Italy in the Euro final.

I think that a player like CR7 has a difficult substitution, however I think he could do well if he is up to the task, in any case CR7 should be replaced due to his performance, this is so similar to what happens with Messi, at some point some player has to replace him, not everything is forever, I think many things could happen, CR7 is a player who has no bad intentions and just as Figo did with him, he can do with Félix, with that everything depends on what things are getting better and better for Portugal.Portugal has a replacement generation and they can give their all to have an even better team than the current one.
