In 2006 Brazil removed Croatia (1x0) and was defeated right after by France (1x0) with a goal of Thierry Henry. That was also the last world cup of Zinédine Zidane, one of the greatest players of all times, if not the greatest.

I just looked at the poll and I voted for Spain too! It was a real disappointment that they were eliminated this way. It wouldn't be so sad if they were eliminated in regular time, but it was not nice to be eliminated from penalties, and to be eliminated after taking not serious penalty kicks three times in a row.
Now that Germany and Spain are gone, other countries have become more voracious. England and France from Europe, Brazil and Argentina from the America are very serious favorites, but we should not forget the other teams. It was a huge job for Morocco, and so was South Korea. No Asian teams left but Africa still has one.

I think it just becomes more and more hard to win a world cup in the years and decades to come because nowadays almost every country has pretty professional structures. So in a world cup and also especially in the european championship there are no more those really big underdogs that are losing every game with 0-15 or something like that. Teams like Morocco, Senegal and others of that category are now strong enough to beat every other national team in the world if they have a good day and some luck.
Spain did not show their best performance against Morocco and then they lost unlucky in the penalty shoot-out. Stuff like that can happen.

I too had thought Spain had a shot at reaching the World Cup finals if not to win the finals but I guess I thought wrong. This World Cup, like you rightly said is quite unpredictable as countries generally seen as underdogs are beating their opponents. Lots of teams I thought had a chance reaching the quarter finals have now been defeated and eliminated from the competition. I had voted for France on the thread but I honestly didn’t expect Spain to be out at this stage. This World Cup is unpredictable and in my opinion, that makes it really exciting

After seeing this incredible performance Fernando Santos should give him another chance in the Morocco match. Ronaldo is still the leader of this team of course. But it might be better for him to lead the team like Ibrahimovic does it for Milan maybe.

Ronaldo is surely a leader in the team, he is the captain and a legend for Portugal, but he doesn't have to start or play every match if the team are winning without him, he is a role model, so he can also lead from the bench and show a good example, it is surely better for Portugal to win the world cup without Ronaldo playing too much, than for him to play every match and score in each of them without Portugal eventually winning the world cup, Ronaldo knows that, so i don't think he would have any problem with whatever the managers decision is. I feel the manager will bench Ronaldo against Morocco and play the same team that started against Switzerland, he will surely be introduced into the game later, probably with 20 minutes to go, or earlier if the team are losing or struggling.

I too had thought Spain had a shot at reaching the World Cup finals if not to win the finals but I guess I thought wrong. There are always surprises in every competition, that's normal and now we look forward to the winner of the World Cup, is it Brazil , France or England?
England and Netherlands is the most consistent country never lost so far, are they reliable? but usually the winner of the tournament is the player who occupies the top score and for now Mbappe is top scorer with 5 goals while Saka, Cody and Messi only scored 3 goals.

Fernando Santos (Portugal coach) applied a smart strategy. He knows that Switzerland must think Ronaldo will be a starter, so Switzerland team prepared a strategy to deal with Ronaldo in the field. It is true that nothing can be guaranteed in sports especially football.  Because many good teams can lose at any time.  

Sometimes, every team has different solidity and consistency during the match on the field. SOme other factors may be also influencing. However, the tense of the World Cup is exactly different from the League matches. So, this may also influence all players in the team which probably not all very talented players.
But, for the match between Croatia vs Brazil, I really expect that Brazil can make the victory.

This was also what made me surprised. I am not sure that Spain will be one of the teams in the final. But I was really surprised that Spain will be lost to Morocco in round 16. I thought they will probably get into at least the quarter-finals. So did Germany. So many surprises here, right? But for now, I really appreciate all teams n the quarter-finals. They deserve this and they are all big teams.

If to tell the truth their game in the last 16 against Morocco was not very satisfying for 90 minutes of normal time and was quite disappointed that in fact they were the favorites but couldn't play more in exploiting the field because they were only in the middle they played more ball.
On the other hand, in this case, the mentality of kicking a penalty must clearly be taken into account, in my opinion, although in this case the goalkeeper from Morocco also played very well.

Agree with what you said, but on the other hand, Portugal and Morocco are also currently a little more difficult to predict, especially with Morocco's slick performance and being a real dark horse by blowing Spain.

Netherlands can concede on theor backing I'm leaning towards Messi magic here.

But in terms of France I can't see them losing here.  Will be a tough match but Mbappe has had his coming put party.  I think it continues and is my odds on for mvp of the world cup after they double up on world cup victories here.
