The first two Quarter finals games played today were tense, both games getting to Penalties for the winners to be decided. Argentina in the second game were lucky IMO, very rough game with more than ten yellow cards given by the referee. In the final minutes of the extra time they increased the tempo of their game to show that they were not completely confident in their penalty abilities and were trying to avoid it. The first two penalties saved by the Argentina gloves during the penalties gave them the confidence that they could still win.

Messi Survives, Argentina Survives and finally i had a sign of relief seeing Argentina going through. Although the sorrow of Brazil losing is still there as i would love to the Argentina Vs Brazil dream semi final, but nevertheless, i am happy to see Argentina making to the Semi final and they will pay against Croatia.

This is the last world cup for Messi and how it be good that Messi gift his country the gift of the world cup. I know it is too early to say this but then Argentina now are two games away to make this dream come true.

I felt so bad when I say neymar crying after the match, you can't really be winning always, Brazil really performed well today but they couldn't win. Congrat to Croatia and Argentina as they will be facing each other in semi final, I know the semi final will be a difficult round for both country, but I think Brazil might win Croatia(am not really sure, am just predicting).

We are seeing this 2022 World Cup had several surprises.
Brazil's defeat against Croatia, and at the moment, I'm wrinting this post, Netherlands managed to tie the game against Argentina.

So much surprises. I hope the irony from the Brazil match doesn't get to repeat itself in this Netherland 2:2 Argentina fixture. In the Brazil match, we saw Neymar score and have the whole team including the fans celebrate as though it was all over but Croatia soon cut back into the game.
Here we've seen Argentina with 2 goals ahead have that same feeling of its over only for the Netherland to cut back in with some incredible goals, first was W. Weghorst with a not very easy but well executed header into the net and he once yet again got hold of some tactical delivered free kick and placed order into the goal to win his team the equalizer they sole desired and its game on in the extra time.

I believe Brazil played under pressure against Croatia.
In fact he was the favorite to win and many people around the world imagined that Brazil would easily beat Croatia (including me, who imagined that Brazil would win by 2x0 or 2x1)

As time went by, Brazil felt totally pressured, and the Croatian team began to grow in the game.
I even imagine that Croatia played this game without pressure, because maybe they didn't even imagine they could reverse the game, especially against Brazil.

In the Argentina vs Netherlands game, I would never have imagined that this could happen, because I thought that Argentina would be able to win easily, and that's what happened, but as football is a box of chocolates, I never thought that the Netherlands would manage to tie the game and go to penalties.

Anyway, congratulations to the winning teams that will participate in this semifinal!

Haha, good source Soonandwaite. Both teams deserved the victory, the Dutch counterattacked really well during the match, and also in the penalties. But Argentina was more accurate, so there's nothing to claim.

Good think that violence didn't escalate, but a bit os a shame the few unfortunate images by some players today.

This is the most enjoyed quarter-finals. Both teams deserved to win, but there will only be one winner who will move to the semi-finals. The excitement is that Argentina worked hard for their victory against the Dutch. v. van Dijik  gambled the chance of the Dutch moving to the Semi-finals. Argentina has done it, I hope Croatia get prepared for the worst. Croatia need to learn how to score because Messi is all out for his first and last World cup trophy.

there is no debate about this, and I 1000% agree that the Argentine goalkeeper is one of the best goalkeepers in the world cup this time, he is competing hard with the Croatian goalkeeper (livakovic) and the Moroccan goalkeeper (bono).

It was almost over for Netherlands but after Weghorst came in he changed the fate of the game. Both goals were very classy. He's way better than Memphis Depay, I think he should've started for the games. We know his Beşiktaş performance, he's the exact type of player to play in World Cup games. Van Gaal didn't realize this early and paid for it.
On the other hand Argentina was the better side overall, so this is a fair result. Messi had a great assist and a penalty goal in the game, he's naturally man of the match. Now they are only two games away from the trophy. I hope this time it happens and we can see Messi to lift the trophy before he retires.

The entire tournament is full of disappointment and we can't say the teams making surprise wins were out of luck. Every team that won against the top played good and some magic happened. For the entire fans around the world it is a big disappointment, beyond that will be the situation of the players. Brasil made goal at the additional time and Croatia leveling it at the last minute is simply not the luck thing.

I agree with your thought, in this world cup there have been many disappointments, obviously the disappointments are for the fans who see their national team exit the tournament, like spain, brazil, germany and now holland, unfortunately, football is this or yes laugh or suffer and it's nice for this, we would all like to see our national team win and raise trophies but it's not always possible! but tonight in Holland vs Argentina I saw a really nice match full of surprises! congratulations to Argentina for progressing through to the round, the match against Croatia will be really tough. but tomorrow there is an important match, perhaps the most anticipated of the world cup between England vs France! and my rooting will be for France

I didn't expect Brazil to lose against Croatia but it happened , then Netherlands lost against Argentina. I'm curious what will happen tomorrow in the other two matches between England vs France and Morocco vs Portugal, maybe we will see another crazy surprise?

The tension was so high in both of matches. Morocco and portugal will become a very important match. Portugal needs to win against morocco. I hope that the final will be cristiano ronaldo against messi. That will be making a very high tension of match caused by it's the final that has been waiting by so many people. It seems like that the good performance during the previous match didn't guarantee if the team will win in the current match. brazil has proven if the performance was going up and down. Very sad for brazil must gone from world cup this fast.

It was a really great night. I was expecting to see the Argentina - Netherlands game to be even more exciting than the Brazil - Croatia one. I got what I wanted in a great way. Netherlands' comeback was unbelievable first of all. Weghorst made a magical comeback by scoring two goals after entering the game. van Gaal made a great move by having him on the field.

Argentina started to be effective in extra time again. They wasted some big chances as well. Fernandez was like the worst player of the team as his shot hit the post and he missed a penalty as well. Messi was definitely the man of the match. I should admit that Martinez was also great about his saves in penalties.

The Netherlands made a great comeback today but failed to win the match. In such matches, the team that catches the draw usually wins the match, but today nothing like this happened. It was a truly sad day for the Netherlands. On the other hand, it was a match for Argentina in which some weaknesses became evident. They failed to keep the score in the match they took the lead. When they felt pressure in the midfield, they gave control of the game to the opponent. They gave a red alert before the last matches.

based from the poll on this thread, brazil was the favourite getting a 38% from the users who cast their votes. unfortunately, the favourite one was dumped out from world cup. not expecting also about this twist of events. if ronaldo and messi will have a face off in the finals, that would really get a very large audience. for sure, betting sites will get their huge income from the bettors. let's see how this will pan out in the coming days...

Netherlands' second goal in the 90+11th minute really came as a surprise, especially for Argentina, because of course they had hoped for an advantage until the end. Fortunately, Argentina was able to maximize its performance in penalty kicks. All players were ready for the penalty kicks, moreover, the Argentine goalkeeper was really playing very well and was ready.

I can't imagine if this is realized and the final is between Portugal and Argentina. The tense will be very high, This is not only about the two countries but about Ronaldo and Messi. We all know how their fans are so far, how their influence in the football. This will be very exciting if see this final. But, Portugal still should make a victory against Morocco and the winner between England and France. And this is not easy.

Talking about opportunities is endless. Before the Brazil vs Croatia match, there was also a lot of talk about the opportunities for Brazil, but when the match was over, everything looked different and went beyond predictions until Brazil lost on penalties. This is something that the Brazilian national team really doesn't want because in the second half the Brazilian players have tried to look better even though it didn't work either.

Simple expectations like that, but looking at today's match, it seems that tomorrow's match will not go that simple because surely a lot will happen, especially considering the conditions of the 4 teams that are playing.
England and France will obviously fight the same as Agentina and the Netherlands a while ago but Portugal and Morocco I still find it hard to see what will happen in the future.

Of the eight teams included in the original poll about who would the World Cup, only four teams remain at this time. Goes to show how much surprises the tournament has brought and how it is still anyone games so deep into it.

Not a particularly exceptional display from Argentina, but they put in good work defensively and kept their nerves when it mattered the most. Now we all look forward to Tuesday semi-final clash with Croatia: two teams who have similar style of play know what is at stake, having played in the final in 2018 (Croatia) and in 2014 (Argentina).

Tomorrow promises more drama.

And maybe the same thing will happen in the Portugal vs Morocco match, even though in general Portugal looks better than Morocco in this world cup.
