Be careful.   Replacing a popup (cached) address is easier to modify since EVERYONE has access to the files.
That's why I type it. What are the odds of me typing the exact same phishing site that someone could have entered into my browser's history?
I use the same method, except that in some cases I do another refresh of the page, just to make sure I'm not on the cache. However for a long time now, I almost always check the URL in the address bar. Now I do it automatically.

I do both: I type the address, and if my browser pops it up from it's URL history I know for sure it's the correct address.
I don't like my history saved anywhere, so I  set my browser to delete history of visited pages each time I close my browser, and I am always starting with a ''clean'' browser.
If there is a need for some cookies not to be deleted there is always an option to add exceptions in browser settings.
There is also alternative to start browser in ''private'' window.

I don't see any signs of cloudflare. joker_josue, did you remove the cloudflare protection? Tried accessing Talkimg from different browsers, different device. There aren't any annoying Cloudflare message, neither the capcha popup! Anyway, good thing everything works fine, for now, at least from my side. The loading time was pretty fast, and there were no issues with upload image either. So far, everything looks good.  Smiley

In that sense, this is clearly a false positive. And always remember to check the links you click.

One of my machines has Avast free antivirus installed, and it's still falsely flagging your website as a phishing threat. It's clearly a false positive, likely caused by a malicious report. Given the recent DDoS attacks, it's possible that the same jerks are behind these false reports.

This could be a problem for people who rely on free antivirus software and prevent them from accessing your website, so you might want to reach out to Avast support to get this sorted out.

Everything is calmer now, so I lowered Cloudflare's interaction levels to the minimum. Now he only acts in very suspicious cases.

Personally, I would prefer not to use Cloudflare. But, at least in the near future, I will have to keep it active, to prevent any replication of the attack.

I don't have Avast, even if it installs it now, it wouldn't give me that error.

What I can ask for, which I would appreciate, is your help in doing this, in case this message appears again. To do this, follow these instructions: https://businesshelp.avast.com/Content/Products/General_Help/SampleSubmission/SubmittingFalsePositives.htm

I researched ways to contact them in this regard, and these were the only instructions I received on the subject. If anyone knows of anything else that can be done, please let me know.

I actually already did the same thing you suggested. I filled out the Avast form to report a false positive for your website.  They say they will review it within the next 48 business hours and update their detection database once the result of the analysis is ready.

Hopefully, they will resolve the matter quickly so everyone can access your site without problems.

joker_josue, is it okay if I use talkimg to host some other images that aren't intended for Bitcointalk? It became a habit for me to upload images on your website Cheesy
By the way, today I was browsing imgbb and I think it will be cool if you add auto delete image feature. P.S. I just noticed that both of you use the same script.

Does anyone know what's the best way to compress images? I mean the best possible way, I'd love to know if there is a very good software with GUI. I was thinking about compressing images via TinyJPG but I don't like it, it loses quality too much and then when I convert TinyJPG converted image into WEBP, for some reasons, I get an image with higher size.
I'd love if anyone wants to share the best guide and knows good tools and techniques.

The TalkImg service was configured with Bitcointalk in mind, and the "eternal" problem that images disappeared after some time. It is for this reason that images uploaded to TalkImg do not have an automatic deletion system. This way we can guarantee that the images used in the forum will always be available on the forum.

In terms of using the images elsewhere, we have to take into account that TalkImg was designed to be used in BitcoinTalk, and that there are users making backups. It's true that it may work on other sites, but we can't guarantee that it will always work. Furthermore, I don't want to be burdening forum users by having to backup other images that are not used in the forum. This is not to say that things won't change in the future, it will depend on several factors.

In that case, couldn't you give the user the option, when uploading, to leave the image permanent or delete it after X amount of time? I think that would help space-wise as well.

Yes, you could do that. However, this would not solve the problem of the forum running out of images some time later.

The user could mistakenly set a deadline for the image. Or out of "anger" wanting to delete all the images you posted. Without users who go to the trouble of deleting/cleaning all the posts they make, they would easily do this with the images.

It's true that I can't force everyone to use TalkImg, but at least those who use it can be assured that the images will be preserved to always work on the forum.

If talkimg.com is intended to host pictures for bitcointalk.org as sole purpose, why would you want some images to exist only temporarily?

I can only think of the following use case: an uploaded picture is never referenced or requested by bitcointalk.org. If an uploaded picture isn't requested to be displayed by bitcointalk.org, then delete it after x months.

I don't think talkimg.com should be used as some personal backup storage for pictures that are never used on bitcointalk.org. That's abuse of ressources. I'm fine with if talkimg.com only serves to bitcointalk.org and not for any other site.

But it's not me to decide. I'm just throwing my 2 cents on the discussion table.

Imagine an image hosting site which you use all the time no matter what platform you are working in. It became very popular. However a good percentage of the user do not know about this forum. They know talkimg as a hosting place for their images. Talkimg can have a message that sponsored by "bitcoin and its community". What do you think? It's a good way to give a positive feeling to people.

What I am saying is, we can think out of the box, be generous. If anything seems a problem to us we can mute it in the future. Imgur muted us.

Proper image hosts like Imgur, ImgBB and Postimages all have some sort of deal with content delivery networks (CDNs) to basically cache user images on their own servers so that they 1) load faster and 2) do not strain the image host's resources.

OP has nothing of that sort, so I understand where he is coming from when Talkimg blocks other sites besides Bitcointalk - it definitely helps mitigate the server instability problems too, of recent.

But if he wants to expand operations and secures a bigger budget for that, then allowing other sites would be a possibility.

As I mentioned, I may expand the project to make it more comprehensive. But, I have to take into account 2 points:
- Separate the images used in the forum from those that are not used, so that backups made by forum members do not contain images used elsewhere.
- Get funding for your project without having to fill the platform with ads.

In the case of the first point, it won't be that complicated, as I can try to develop a more sophisticated backup system capable of making that difference.
As for the second point, I see it as being a little more complicated. I don't know where I can get this financial support, outside of this community, without compromising the support given here.

Friends, I recognize each sat already donated to this project, as an act of trust in it, I do not want to disappoint that trust at any time. That's why I don't want to make decisions that don't have the support of the community and could jeopardize the original idea of the project.

How about coining the different terms Image Sharing vs Image Hosting?   Your site is a hosting service - the one I am building is catered towards sharing relevant or current info, and I will not be preserving images long term.

In reality, the two concepts overlap. The difference lies in the approach to each project.
But yes, it is different. Its proposal is more in the Google Photos style.

Maybe I can also talk about this in my guide.  Wink

I don't mind seeing some ads in order to help the project. And besides, you'll be giving the user a new functionality. I think if you make it clear that the ads are for maintaining the system, you won't have any problems.

It is not a bad idea or thing to introduce ads on the talkimg site, I mean, as a matter of fact, i have been seeing ads, and it's never been a problem to me because the ads are correctly placed  in a strategic position where it doesn't disrupt or interfere with the user's reason for visiting the site, which often is to upload images, get links to the uploaded image for whatever purpose it is meant for.

So, in the nutshell, I completely agree with you, if allowing ads to run on the platform will help it continue to exist for a very long time, then that's very fine, as long as the ads doesn't take up important space on the site, or become pop-up, nothing annoys me like pop-up ads because sometime, when trying to close it, you end up clicking on which takes you another site altogether.

I don't see why we would have a problem if talking has ads, not all funds have to be given only for the cost of maintaining the site, why its owner wouldn't get some kind of reward for his efforts.
I remember before talkimg introduction I used imgbb and similar services that were crowded with pornographic advertisements.
In the end, almost all of us carry some kind of advertisement in the signature area, it would be hypocritical to criticize others for the same thing.

Other platforms have many advertising banners, in order to obtain high revenue.

I have nothing against having advertisements, they have existed occasionally on the site. But, I don't want anything highly aggressive or invasive, I want the platform to remain clean and pleasant to visit.

Therefore, whenever I managed to achieve this balance, I took advantage of this approach.

The ideal would be to put just enough to support this expansion to receive other images. As we saw the opinion of our friends above, I believe that all users who come to use it will not mind, because we will know that this is for the functional site!
