Have you simply tried to verify that no tab of talkimg.com is already open in your browser and have you tried to open a private browser window for the upload?

I never had the issue you describe, maybe because I close my browser overnight and in most cases I open a private browser window to upload pictures to talkimg.com. Kinda less of a hassle for me that way.

I can confirm that no tabs from Talkimage were already open. No, I did not try to make the upload in a private/incognito mode! However I did tried with different images, with VPN and without VPN to make sure it is not related to my ISP or anything!

I also do what you do. To be honest, I have no idea what causes this, but I face this problem once in a while. This is probably my fourth or fifth time! Although the issue fixes on it's own if you give it some time.

I appreciate your feedback, as the goal is to keep improving.

The issue is that I end up not being able to resolve much regarding the 401 error. Usually this error is on the user's side, due to the browser, DNS settings, connection, or other points. Try checking some of these points here: https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/401-error/

 Statistics  Second Year____________________
We are completing the second year since TalkImg was launched. It's been an incredible and successful two years, thanks to this fantastic BitcoinTalk community. How was this second year? What happened during this last year? What can we expect from the future of TalkImg?

Let's start with the numbers. Over 74k images were uploaded over the last 12 months, which meant over 24GB of images. Compared to the first year, we saw 30k fewer images uploaded, but this is also due to the fact that in the first year, we had a large number of images that were transferred from other services to TalkImg. In the following graph, we see the evolution of uploads throughout this second year, with the first day (of the 2nd year) being marked as zero.


The most notable point of this second year was an alleged DDoS attack that TalkImg faced. It all started on November 4th, when the website suddenly went offline. After an initial analysis, massive and inexplicable traffic to the site was confirmed, which caused the server's security system to shut down the site. Unable to find a logical explanation for what happened, they ended up redirecting the site to Cloudflare in order to mitigate the situation.

After long hours of configurations, I managed to control the situation a little and bring more stability to the service. Making sure that in less than 2 days, at least some images were visible again on the forum. Despite this, the attack continued, and the service remained very unstable for a few days. Finally, after almost 4 days of despair, several hours of configuration and monitoring, TalkImg started working normally again. Throughout all these events, the community has been very supportive and understanding. I just have to say a big thank you to everyone in this community. Despite this setback, continuity plans did not end. In order to improve services, migration to another server was carried out and some technical adjustments/improvements were made. We also seek to give special support to the BITCOIN FORUM METAVERSE - 15th Anniversary Artwork project, with more news coming soon.

A new bakcup model was also implemented, which will bring more freedom to the project, while maintaining the original idea. In the coming months, we are planning to launch a new major update, which will bring some improvements to the service. Parallel services will also soon emerge, which we hope will be useful to the entire BitcoinTalk community.

We have now completed another year of TalkImg. Once again I would like to thank the entire community for supporting this project. You can find out in detail how this last year happened, see the summary here.

In April, we were focused on developing a new backup system. We are pleased to inform you that after all the tests, the system is working as intended, bringing more freedom to the project, while maintaining the main focus of providing an image hosting service for the forum. But how does this new system work?

We now have two public backup models. One is the one that already existed, a weekly backup of all images uploaded to the server is made, making it available for anyone to download, here: https://talkimg.com/tempbackups/ The last 3 weeks of backup are always available for anyone to download.

A second public backup model is focused on backing up only the images that are used on the Bitcointalk forum. This backup is monthly. At the end of each month it checks the site logs, and analyzes all the images that the forum proxy requests at least once. The system records in a DB the link of the image that was requested at least once, if the image is not yet in the DB. It then checks the new entries in the DB and creates a zip of all of them, making this backup available for 60 days, available here: https://talkimg.com/tempbackups/btctalk_bk/

This backup system does not collect any user data. It only checks the forum's image proxy accesses and saves only the image link. Furthermore, this model will ensure that all images that are accessed at least once by the forum proxy will be registered. It does not matter if an image was added to the forum recently or 2 years ago. If at any point it is accessed by the proxy, it will be entered into the database.

Another thing that is saved in the database is the number of times the proxy requested this image. In other words, every time the proxy requests the image from the server, the system keeps track of it. This will allow us to present statistics on the most viewed images over time in the future.

With the collaboration of @LoyceV, we can inform that all images uploaded to TalkImg to date have had a new backup made for @LoyceV (thanks for the availability). Including the exclusive Bitcointalk backup. An API is also now available to help other users make backups. Anyone interested can request it via PM.

We believe that with this new backup model, we open up the possibility of expanding the TalkImg service. At the same time, we ensure that the images on the Bitcointalk forum continue to have their own backup and are thus secure for any future eventuality.

Finally, I want to inform you that as promised, a special platform has been launched for the project "The BITCOIN FORUM METAVERSE Art Project with BTC Artist 1Dq", which you can learn more about here.

I can't believe it already passed two year since TalkImg launched it's operation, but I think this change made things in forum much better overall.

Interesting to see that BC.Game has the most images in top 10.

Nothing happens. Images are only deleted if they violate TalkImg's terms of use.
The idea behind this service was to not delete images and to put an end to this "limitation".

So far, I don't have any valid statistical data, between those used on Bitcointalk and other places. Also because I still have the hotlink active and it may not work in other places.

But, with the new backup system, which records when an image is requested by the proxy, I will soon be able to have more data on how many uploaded images are in use on the forum.

So do we keep using it for Altcoinstalks or do we look for an alternative image hosting platform (yes or no). Note that I don't intend to use talkimg on other platforms, but only BTT and ALT!
And do you have any future plans to "officially" allow it on Altcoinstalk? Because as you may be aware, a lot of users teleported there and are active on both the forums. So using two different sites to upload images seems like a headache. Personally I am only comfortable with talkimg rather than other platforms. And I don't wanna switch when posting there.

@rdluffy sorry for not responding sooner. Fortunately, TalkImg's server is not in Portugal or Spain, it is currently in the USA. It is also common for hosting companies or server managers to have generators for power outages. These generators usually run on fuel, which allows servers to run for several hours or days, even when there is no electricity.

Regarding improvements, they will be more in terms of performance and bug fixes. Maybe one or two more new features. I should have some news in a few weeks. Right now, I have several ideas/plans, but little time to move forward with them all, so we have to take it slow.

Check your post history to see which images are correctly embedded. You'll need a bit more time and posts to become Jr. Member, then your embedded images will show up.

When you as still Newbie embed this [img]https://talkimg.com/images/2025/05/20/UazRbT.jpeg[/img] in your post, we see only this https://talkimg.com/images/2025/05/20/UazRbT.jpeg instead of

But once you become Jr. Member all your embedded [img]<link to pic>[/img] become embedded shiny pics which everybody can see. So don't stop to include pics in your post, they will eventually become shiny embedded ones.

Anyway long story short, I was trying to upload an image, the size was more then 3 mb, so I was redirected to the zip tool, ok fine, uploaded that there and voilaaa faced with an error.



Tried refreshing the page, said the data would be re-submitted, clicked confirm and still same error. Am I doing anything wrong?

Brother, this has happened not only to you but also to me several times. Even after uploading a picture repeatedly, the upload failed. Later, what I saw in the solution was that,

I imported my picture into snapseed or any other photo editing app and saved it. Then the picture got uploaded.
I think it is because of the metadata of the picture that the error is showing.

You are not doing anything wrong. The ZIP tool is still in Beta, so sometimes it may not work properly. Soon I will try to improve the tool to be more effective.

 Statistics  May 2025____________________
This past month I made a small update to the image zipping tool: https://zip.talkimg.com/. With the update, the script is more effective at compressing images, providing greater guarantees that this will be done in almost all requests. Although we always recommend that the user perform this MB reduction using tools designed for this purpose, I believe that this solution is sufficiently effective when this is not possible. I also added a process log, so the user can keep track of what was done. This log is not saved, it is only visible while the user keeps the page open or starts a new upload.

This month we also saw an increase in uploads, thanks to the famous pizza contest: [2025] Bitcoin Pizza Day on Bitcointalk 🍕. We wish all participants happy (and delicious) pizzas, and thank everyone who used TalkImg to save photos of their pizzas.
