My stance on the suggestion for deduplication is that I don't think it's worth the hassle and should be handled by the underlying filesystem if it supports it at all.

I wasn't aware of the hardlink linux utility that LoyceV suggested and had to look up the man page. Seems to need a stable and temporarily non-changing filesystem tree to work reliably.
 

Duplicate image detection: with 314k+ images, there must be a lot of duplicates (signature campaign banners, for example, used by hundreds of people). If the system could "recognize" these and immediately return the link, it would save a lot of storage and server costs.

I haven't closely looked at all the various signature campaign banners, but those rarely use images at all, and if they were, campaign participants copied all the same image link from campaign manager. This sounds like a misunderstanding on the part of atookz. I'd be surprised if the images pile of TalkImg had a significant amount of duplicates. joker_josue could check this with a comparison of file hashes. I don't expect it's worth implementing it securely and avoiding edge cases.

atookz also likely didn't anticipate the following edge case: if the delete picture link of TalkImg after an image upload still works persistantly, the first uploader could save the delete picture link and later have the uploaded image deleted (for whatever reasons). This could invalidate other users' image links and create the nasty experience of broken image links in the forum.

Self-expiring image option for images used for verification screenshots or transaction proof: option to set auto delete after a period of hours or number of views. No need for these to pile up permanently when they're only needed briefly.

How often will this be used? I assume it's likely not a heavily demanded feature and therefore not worth the implementation hassle.

If there were a demand for such a feature, I'd suggest that expired images be replaced by a placeholder image stating that the image expired on demand of the uploader to again avoid the nasty experience of broken image links.

If you don't want an image on Bitcointalk anymore, just remove it from your post If TalkImg can confirm it's no longer on the forum, it could remove the image. But if someone else linked the same image somewhere else, that doesn't work.

If you upload anything to the internet, you should assume it's going to be there forever.

Thanks. The funny thing is that I loaded the page several times and I kept seeing the error. Meanwhile at the same time I was able to see other images. But now I can see the images normally.
I am on VPN, maybe it could have something to do with Cloudflare (i don't know if Talkimg uses Cloudflare)?

But I was having hard time loading other website like Bitlist.co due to that verification check.

Maybe your browser was showing a cached error-image. Try Shift-reload when that happens, that redownloads everything on the page.

As for the image size, afaik, the max supported size is 2.5MB. But if it's anything beyond that limit then it's automatically converted into smaller size.

Note: Regarding the issue you are facing, did you have TalkImg tab opened for a long time? If that's the case it would sometimes show error (something to do with expired credentials). Normally a quick refresh fixes it.

For security reasons, sometimes, when the page is open for a long time without activity, the server turns off the credentials connection (let's call it that). Even when browsing the site, the upload system may not work correctly. If this is the case, try closing the tab and reopening it or force refreshing the page so that it loads new credentials.

Renaming it won't fix, lol! Since you tried everything, you might as well try converting those images into different formats (png, jpeg, gif etc)...just to satisfy your curiosity whether the issue still persists or not.

Sorry my bad! My eyesight is getting worse day by day. I saw maximum instead of minimum.
Btw, I think there are no minimum limits to this. I just uploaded an image that is 1.02 KB (1,049 bytes), and it still went through. Surprisingly, 95 bytes (95 bytes) also works.

By long i never meant 24/7. Usually when we use the forum, when we have multiple tabs open, along with the talkimg page, and when it sits idle like that for 30-40 minutes (I donno the actual number), the credential becomes invalid.

What I can see now is that if we know the username of a Talkimg user, we can see all the pictures uploaded to their profile so far.

If you upload anything in a logged in state, then you can easily manage the things you uploaded. There is an option to delete. Now if you post that link here, then there is no going back, as Ninjastic/Bitlist would grab it as soon as you do.

The benefits are you get the ability to manage everything you have uploaded so far.

You can,

1. Create new album, move images to other albums.
2. Create different types of album (public, private, anyone with link, password protected).
3. Delete images that you have uploaded previously (everything is listed under an album there).
4. Flag as unsafe (not sure what that is).
5. Edit title, tags, descriptions later on.
6. Use API with ShareX

And a bunch of other stuff I never explored. Overall the one most beneficial perks of using an account is that, even if you accidentally upload a sensitive image, you can easily remove that. But in case of guest, once you lose the "delete link" or say close the tab without saving the "delete link" somewhere else, you cannot remove it. Then you might have to involve joker_josue into it, and request for a manual removal.

If I want to maintain privacy, I would like to avoid creating an account for uploading images. If it is possible to upload images without an account, I would like to use this option, rather than registering an account.

If it is allowed to use VPN when uploading images, I would prefer to use VPN.

If both can be used: no registered account, and VPN use, I would like to use both of them as combination for my practice.

I'm not suggesting anyone that we should use an account, in the first place, NO. I was only stating "what you get to do" when you use an account (I was like showing things around).

You get control over everything you have uploaded so far, (but lose privacy in that process). Yeah, that's a deal breaker for many users.

And the reality is, even though I have an account there, I don't use that either (or rarely). Just like you, I'm also using talkimg/bitlist with no accounts (both actually - whichever i see first, or comes in my mind first).

Note: For VPN use, I saw no policy that restricts the use of it. Bear in mind, talkimg saves your IP address. So it's better to use a VPN, if you are really concerned with your privacy.

You can use VPNs as much as you want, or any service that hides your original IP address. For me, that's completely irrelevant. IP address logging is solely for spam control purposes (I'll talk about spam soon, and you'll understand better).

Furthermore, no matter how hard I try to ensure privacy, everyone should understand that when they send things to the internet, they are exposing them to the world, no matter how private the channels they use may be.

If accidentally send sensitive images, please let me know and I will delete them from the service and the backups I manage. But remember that other users back up the images uploaded to TalkImg, and that's something I can no longer control.

The same thing happens with images posted on the forum; even if they are later deleted or replaced, many users make copies of all the forum posts as soon as they are created. They can then contact those users who make copies and whom they know, but they certainly don't know all of them.

Therefore, the best advice is to always pay attention to the images you choose to send/share.



Regarding profile privacy, I don't remember if it's automatically activated after creation or not (I'll check later), but it's up to each user to ensure they have this option enabled if they want to. As @DYING_S0UL said, you just need to go into the settings and enable that option.

In last few years I realized that most people sadly need ''babysitters'' for almost everything
If someone is browsing forum with their real IP address than it doesn't really matter if they that same IP address to upload images on any hosting service.
I am sure some bigger image hosting services are saving everything, including IP addresses, browser and OS details.
Bigger image hosting = bigger problems
