LOL.. South Africa chose to bat first, and they are struggling at 17/2 after 9.3 overs. They have been completely demolished by the Australian pacers (Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc). Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma are back in pavilion already (in case of the latter, I am not even surprised). There is a very good chance that South Africa will be bowled out for a two-digit total. Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen are at the crease and they are really struggling. Rassie so far has just 5 runs to his name from 27 balls.

Bavuma has been fail in all wc matches so far, himself during the toss said he's not completely fit and they are playing a semi game, how serious are they? Such a waste of slot, better Markram was given captainship and Reeza Hendricks replacing him.

LOL.. If he's not fit then he needs to sit out, right? Today also he got out for a duck. And quota system within the South African team means that he can't be replaced with a white player. In case he is dropped, then they need to include Andile Phehlukwayo in place of one of the bowlers in form (either Jansen or Coetzee). At this point, this is something unthinkable for South Africa. Anyway, they are at 46/4 now after 16 overs, with David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen at crease. He was but I think one batter is allowed to run a ball inning when other batters around him going over 120-140 SR for example Gill and Iyer. Both of them especially the latter built his inning around Kohli. One played an anchor inning and the other opted for an aggressor so it worked out perfectly.

I understand it that's how things work generally. But we are talking about an ICC tournament and we are in a Semi-Final match where no one should look for their personal achievement. Fortunately, things went well for India and they have scored very well in the last five overs. They almost reached the 400 total. About anchor innings, we need anchor innings once we see they lose a couple of wickets. But India has enough wickets in hand and they are playing a Semi-Final match of the World Cup! You might have a different point of view, but as a responsible player, no one should look for their personal achievements in such matches. It's fine if they do it in other tournaments.

It's not like I don't agree with you but sometimes it's necessary to play the anchor inning and it's not like it's the first time for Kohli. He played such innings many times when the team is batting first, one potential reason is when the team bats first, you are never sure about what's the good target to set and it's true for every team. At the same time when Kohli chases the target, it's a completely different ball game. He still plays an anchor inning but he goes into beast mode after scoring 50 and almost every time ends his inning with a high SR. His career SR is 93

One must also look at the anchor inning build-up and how one finishes his inning. In the case of Kohli, his first 50 runs came in 59 balls and the next 67 runs came in 54 balls and he ended his inning with 103 SR which isn't juicy or provides enough adrenaline rush in the context of the high scoring match but its hardly considered as bad inning.     

Also, i don't think discussions about personal achievements are completely fair. The dude has scored more than half of his tons in chasing targets successfully and no other player comes close. The kind of consistency he provides in the ODI format is unmatchable so i believe fans should cut him some slack.

The match was started again and the South African team played good as they wanted, they played very bad before the rain and now they played more poorly than before the rain. The half-match was passed and they completed a hundred runs in 25 overs.  According to ESPNcricinfo, the South Africa team can’t complete two hundred runs. I don't know why Temba Bavuma has been given a place in the South Africa squad and captained. Bavuma played in 8 matches in this World Cup. And his highest score in 8 matches is 35 runs. And his total collection in 8 matches is 145 runs. And the average strike rate will probably be around 80. It would not be wrong to call Temba Bavuma the worst opener in this World Cup.

We saw Reeza Hendrick in two matches as Bavuma's replacement. Hendricks scored 85 runs in the first match and 12 runs in the second match. I think Hendricks is a better-quality player than Bavuma. Bavuma's bad start is why South Africa is in the bad shape they are today. South Africa collected 139/6 in 36 overs.

But no one thought that they would perform so badly against Australia in the semi-final, however in today's match South Africa could not score many runs due to poor batting in favor of Australia. All the players who came out to bat in the power play batted under a lot of pressure and got out for very few runs. I don't see a very good batsman to play in today's match so far, even though it's almost late in the game South Africa is yet to score 200 runs. But if a batsman like David Miller had batted well, he would have scored 300 runs in today's match. But no batsman could do such a situation due to which South Africa had to bat in the worst way today. If the two batsmen who are now at the crease eat at the end, they may be able to collect like 220 runs at the end. And the Australian team bowled well in today's match, they must be credited because they have been playing well since the beginning. I think Australia will bat in the second innings and easily win against South Africa in today's match. At this moment, the South African team has collected 160 runs in 41 overs with the loss of 6 wickets.

South Africa's fortunes were so bad that they never made it past the semi-finals to the final. One thing we never understand is whether the South African team changes to such an extent that they cannot maintain the pressure in the semi-finals. In the past matches they won the toss and scored more than 400 runs in almost every match but today they batted like South Africa never played cricket in their life. We are completely disappointed to see such a batting situation or disaster in South Africa.

Proteas had one strength in this WC, batting first and outbat their opponent and putting them out of the game convincingly but here comes the knockout and they are back to their usual stuff of choking.

Dream run and tons of potential but looks like their journey ends tonight and seems to be a one sided victory for Australia, only a miracle or some ridiculous bowling spell could save the SA.

I don't disagree with you either. I know he is one of the best batters of all time. I know about his achievements and what he did. But I guess you got what I pointed out. I was talking about this particular match which is the Semi Final of the World Cup and what I believe is, that this is not the match where some one should play for their personal achievements.

I do not have any problem if he plays with 50-strike rate. I don't have any problem even if he plays with 50 strike rates in the World Cup Final too. But that does not look good when someone pick such match for personal achivement. You might have different point of view.

It is crazy to dream of setting a target of 213 against Australia on a wicket where 350 plus runs are in doubt. Australia scored 100+ runs in the first 16 overs and they now need another 90+ runs to win.  
If South Africa lose today, the World Cup final match will be tough in 1 way because if South Africa beat Australia today to reach the final then they would never have been able to fight against India. As Australia will play the final against India, the final match will undoubtedly be a tough one for both the teams. As the outcome of the match is known, there is no point in wasting time watching the game.

Actually I think South Africa applied the strategy of their previous match against Australia. In the previous match, they defeated Australia by a huge margin of 134 runs on the Lucknow pitch. But in the field of Eden Garden, they could not do anything good with batting. The run rate could not be raised above 5 but wickets fell quickly even in slow batting. Now who knew that batting first against Australia in this match would not do well, but I don't think batting first and bowling first matter here, the point is their performance was poor today so they are heading for defeat.
Australia need just 80 more runs in 28 overs. Their current run rate is more than double the required run rate. Australia's current run is 133 and their four wickets have fallen. A little earlier Marnus Labuschagne got out with 18 runs off 31 balls. However Australia still have some strong players left Glenn Maxwell comes to the crease let's see how he performs today.
