Too bad, I was very interested in this coin, planned to invest in it, but the fact that they changed the terms of the pre-sale with no advance warning makes it a non-starter for me. No mention was ever made of a 50% allocation between BTC and MSC investment. People were misled to believe both were allowed up to the total Safecoin to be sold.

I hope this helps explain it a bit better. I know we will not please everyone for sure, but I hope we did please the vast majority of supporters.  BitAngels have already said they will honour some of the MSC guys who did miss out, but a fair balance needed to be found and fast as far as I was concerned, otherwise BTC holders would be completely pushed out and that would help nobody at all.

There is a press release now which explains the madness (in the best possible way) of the crowd sale http://launch.it/launch/maidsafe-sells-6-million-of-bitcoin-20-software-in-five-hours

I hope this helps everyone. Remember zero founders shares in this sale, this is a proposition of equals to create a huge community of equals and maidsafe the company will participate like any other company or team in this new network. We have and will make errors in judgement and the sale showed why we should never under-estimate participation, it seems people want this network to succeed but feel left out, this is not the case. We want as many folks as possible to be part of it and if maidsafe do not provide value, then they will not exist. This is correct and fair I think. I am confident we will provide further value, but we have no control to ensure that, only our tenacity and brutal honesty with a little bit of skill and lots of effort will allow us to keep being part of this.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

These are being processed now, it may take 48 hours to show though. The leading edge parts of the master protocol we used meant some manual work, but it looks like this last part may be automated. There is a post on the site now to explain safecoin.io

Important update for bitcoin participants
As you all know, the crowd-sale has been unbelievably successful. We were all surprised at the rate of uptake. As MSC purchases were automatically handled it became apparent very quickly that bitcoin participants were severely disadvantaged.

To balance this, we decided to purchase all remaining MSAFE coins to ensure that backers who sent their bitcoins would have their orders fulfilled. This does mean that we can still accept bitcoin orders until the cut-off point at ~6000BTC. https://blockchain.info/address/1KHfLixa2idRnZXMUfEisBati1vpywaH6E

This allowed everyone to receive the 40% bonus which is also fair even though the sale raises significantly less cash than anticipated. The orders can be tracked on http://blockchain.info as well our Google document spreadsheet.

The backend process which is currently manual is being automated to ensure greater accuracy. The master protocol team, are working with us to ensure this process is clean and efficient. However we estimate it will take 24 to 48 hours for this script to be used in production, after which you should see your MSAFE coins in your bitcoin address.

Few important questions I didn't find answer for

  • I didn't see anywhere development timeline. When we can expect working version. For what features the money will be used?
  • Will the average user (not farmer) be able to visit maidsafe hosted sites without installing any client on his PC?

here is a bump for couple of questions hoping to get answered Smiley

Just sent BTC.  Did I make it in time?

You did!

Do not panic, it was not closing at 6000 dead (hence the ~), we had some figures to audit due to some unresolved issues in the master blockchain. The site is updated and we are in talks with the larger MSC investors to try and allow a better balance here. I would hope we can offer more than 6700 BTC but we need to check it's 1: possible and 2: right.

I feel it is right and I really want to have BTC to set up the international developer pods to compete at the code dev side of the network (no not want maidsafe to be the only core dev team, that's centralised). Using MSC for these pods is difficult for sure and BTC is just easier at the moment liquidity wise. I do think MSC will increase ion value though, I hope it does as we now hold an awful lot, but that was a risk we took. I hope it helps the community.  We already have interest in such a thing in San Francisco so this would be important to fund with BTC.

Thanks folks you are all very welcome to be part of this and any help in setting up developer teams worldwide would be appreciated. Jump on our mailing list and propose places and groups that can help. We see it as pretty much informal, but perhaps getting organised over time, depending on commitment.

Yes it was important to us that everyone got this due to the speed of the sale, so we decided to forget any declining discount rate and forced it to 40% across the board. We felt it was only fair. Yea less funds raised, but being fair is the primary concern.

Yes BitAngels have proven themselves here for sure. Their honesty and integrity were shown to us in this process. I cannot go into too much info about earlier post as it would not be fair to presume. All I would say is that this is a new world and BitAngels and the Master Protocol team can provide a great service with the ability to balance out any teething problems quickly. If you do a crowd sale these are the guys to work with. I will blog about the experience we had and are having.

I would like to ensure we can ensure the network efforts that need to happen now, can and soon. This means more developers and not maidsafe developers, but new people in new teams all working in unison, but competitively (in terms of the core dev pool).  I hope that helps. It is best to assume this sale stops at 6700 BTC, but we may be able to do better for these teams.

This structure though is discussed in the white paper and on my blog. I think it's  of huge importance.
