No, but they sent me a tracking number. Don't understand why they sent for a magazine... maybe I was hassling them a bit much. Looks like the special issue & gift is included, too.

Well, at least it won't mean anything that I got mine a bit ahead of schedule, now that they've started shipping them out to everyone now.

You can't win if you don't play. But you can't play if you lose all your chips. First I found bitcoin (BTC). Then I found something better, Monero (XMR). See GetMonero.org

You're lucky that April Fools day was delivered on time. If they followed Bitcoin Magazine's schedule you'd probably only have April Fools day by Sep. 15th...

Hey, Matthew. Noticed you're back from your four day holiday. I've just thought of something. Wouldn't Bitcoin Magazine be a perfect periodical for the armed forces personal to read? It's been mention several times before that Bitcoin's a great way to send funds overseas to military men and women. Taking this thought to the logical next level, envision a Marine (for example) who's also a bitcoiner on the cover of Bitcoin Magazine. That would be some powerful shit, don't you think?

Later, bud.

Hehe. That was worth a giggle.

Bitcoin Magazine would be a perfect periodical for anyone interested in something more than AOL. We don't need have a marine on the cover of the magazine at all to run a story about some servicemen using it of course. GoWest is in the military actually. He's the first person I'd ask. It's a good idea for an article.

Which site is the official one?

http://bitcoinmagazine.net/

or

http://bitcoinmagazine.co.uk/

The .net one looks way better imo.

Matt shipped the "special" advertising issue along with "issue #S," I guess because I was complaining about having to read deodorant labels.  Cheesy

Anyway, UPS carrier just dropped off the magazine a few minutes ago. The first thing I'm greeted to is a torn-off piece of paper some guy named "Bob" signed saying this is just a sample copy, not finished, blah blah blah, and asked me not to show it to anyone else. ... But it didn't say anything about describing it.  Wink

First off (after reading the note from "Bob"), I was shocked to find the magazine did NOT have the high-gloss paper Matt was talking about earlier. This is the cheapest of the cheap paper -- I thought it was a joke at first. It's about a quarter the thickness of "normal" stationary and tears with little effort. Most of the pages are colored, but there are clearly some problems with their printer. The front and back cover have the high-gloss, sturdy paper which Matt was talking about and that stuff looks fantastic. Don't worry too much, though - I'd guess they'll have this worked out by the time the "real" magazine ships.

I scanned to make sure there are no spelling errors, and all looks good there. They have a wide array of authors, though many of them aren't even named, which seems sketchy. ... Onto the good stuff -- there is a fantastic Q&A with Gavin where he describes his experiences with Satoshi and how he went into hiding after Gavin went to the CIA to talk about Bitcoin (there's a thread on this somewhere). The articles seem largely made for people who are skeptical of Bitcoin. Though there are explicit ads, the articles sometimes will talk about how to buy Bitcoins, and there's a spiffy Exchange Comparison table, showing pros and cons, like how quickly you can get funds in, what trading fees are, and a customer satisfaction "survey" (which I'm not sure is all that "scientific").

There are a couple different articles addressing GLBSE, one on "are Bitcoins copyrighted?" (haven't read it, yet), a loooong not-so-humble "staff introduction" section, and an article going over the "rise, fall, then rise again" of Bitcoin. Overall, there really isn't that much content, but in the note from "Bob," it's said they haven't finished adding all the articles they want and "the Board" is still debating which articles to cut and add.

There are some problems, but it looks like they have easy fixes. Can't wait to see the actual magazine!

ETA: It did not come in a plastic wrapper -- just the magazine in a box it fit snugly in -- I'm guessing that's not how it'll be shipped when "it ships."
Uh huh, and it weighs 8 lbs too.
