It was me who wrote that paper wallet post, from the shared 'PiggyCoin' account.  I don't know anything about StableCoin.

PiggyCoin General News Update — 1st Jan 2015

Staking fix

Good news!  We have identified the specific source of the bug that led to a lower-than-expected interest rate, and so we are preparing a hard fork to fix it.

It seems few people want the interest rate to be 15%, so we'll be 'fixing' it to a lower amount. Have your say on what you think the interest rate should be by voting here if you can: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=715699.0, or by just replying to this post. Also let us know if there's anything else about the staking you think should be changed.

Paper wallets

As previously mentioned, a paper wallet generator is available here: https://www.piggy-coin.com/PiggyPaperWallet/

It's useful for gifting or storing PiggyCoins. Notice that there are two PiggyCoin designs available.

Android wallet

The external dev who did the web wallet is the same one who will do the Android wallet. He's been busy with paid work though, but will get round to doing our Android wallet pro-bono eventually.

There should be no changes required to the web or Android wallets for the hard fork, as these are not staking wallets.

Piggy Power

LitePaid.com, a cryptocurrency payment processor, has indicated to us that they are open to the possibility of accepting PiggyCoin. This would allow online shops to accept PiggyCoin using an automated system. Please Tweet at them to let them know you want this! https://twitter.com/litepaid

We already have a retailer lined up who will accept PiggyCoins if we get on LitePaid!

Still seeking workers

It seems likely that the price will be higher following a successful hard fork (and there's no real reason it wouldn't be successful). We have a professional dev already, neurocis, but he would like to be more devoted to his EasySend-on-the-Blockchain project.

The price is still low, so we think this would still be a great time for another dev to buy in, to have skin in the game to make it worth his while to work on the project. Core devvery would be great — We'd like to have a Gitian compilation system — or someone who would make a Reddit tipbot. But really, any help would be good.

The PiggyCoin Foundation

The price is still too low to be worth converting the Foundation's PiggyCoins to Bitcoins right now. They will eventually be converted and donated to 88bikes.

PiggyFacts

The PiggyFacts faucet has run low on PiggyCoins. If you would like to donate, there's information on how to do here: http://piggyfacts.com/donate.php

Premine

All 1% (5 million PiggyCoins) of the pre-mine is still available, and in the possession of the PiggyTeam. We're hesitant to use it on anything at the moment as the price is so low.

Happy New Year,
The PiggyTeam

Low interest rate _______________________________________  High interest rate
Less inflation                                                                      Too much inflation?  Consider that it is compounded.
Your money is slow to increase — Boring?
But could teach kids patience?
Kids can see their money multiplying —
More interesting?
Paper wallets are more useful.                              Paper wallets lose the holders a significant amount of money
compared to staking wallets.
Less incentive to stake
(but still significant > 1% interest?)
More incentive to stake =
More network security

Staking fix hard fork - Scope of changes

A hard fork of this coin will soon be upon us. As the person spearheading this fork, under the guidance of the new team, and feedback from the community, I invite you to join the discussion on reddit:

Just out of curiosity, why all the optimism about piggycoin?  I think the dev/marketing team has done a good job at keeping it alive, but what is going to push it to the next level?

My take is that transaction messages will assist in pushing it to the next level. It enables the ushering of a bunch of 2.0 features without the need for constant hard forked features. Think:

    Colored coins
    Name registration
    Cloud storage
    Gaming
    Smart contracts
    Notary services

3% interest is good

I would argue against removing the cap altogether.  I think a finite amount of the coin is a good thing.

If we have coins on poloniex will we need to move them out to have a successful fork?

If you have coins on poloniex you will not have to move them, poloniex will be informed to update their wallet client well in advance of the fork.

I agree about the 3%; a little interest is good, but just roughly in line with increases in productivity/economic GDP in the real world as a rough benchmark, to protect against devaluation over the long haul.

Coloured coins

Imagine I'm a teacher who's planning a school fair, with lots of stalls where the students sell stuff -- snacks, raffles, plays of a game, etc.

I want to make it into a competition where groups of students try to earn the most money.  The winner gets an Xbox One.

I can't use cash, as students could just supplement their earnings with their own cash.  I can't use PiggyCoins, as students could just supplement their takings with their own PiggyCoins that they would buy or that they already have.

But if we have the ability to create coloured coins, I could make Green PiggyCoins and give every student 100 at the start of the fair.  Students would have to use these to buy and sell their products or services.  After the fair, I know that the Green PiggyCoins they submit are the ones I gave them, as only I could make Green PiggyCoins.

So what approximate interest is PIGGY currently getting - a quick and dirty exercise:

a) PIGGY went 100% PoS at block 10,000. At that time the total coins (UTXOs) was: 473,426,755.88021 PIGGY @ 2014-06-18 04:19:25
b) We are currently at block 326780 with the total coins (UTXOs) being: 473,799,819.180149 PIGGY @ 2015-01-05 05:41:47
c) 473,799,819.180149 PIGGY - 473,426,755.88021 PIGGY = 373063.299939 PIGGY created since 2014-06-18 04:19:25
d) 373063.299939 PIGGY / 473,799,819.180149 PIGGY = 0.0787% new PIGGY created between 2014-06-18 04:19:25 & 2015-01-05 05:41:47 (201.06 days)
c) 0.0787% / 201.06 days * 365.25 = 0.143% coin creation rate per year.

In the past month:
a) At block 281339 with the total coins (UTXOs) being: 473,745,418.271524 PIGGY @ 2014-12-05 05:41:31
b) We are currently at block 326780 with the total coins (UTXOs) being: 473,799,819.180149 PIGGY @ 2015-01-05 05:41:47
c) 473,799,819.180149 PIGGY - 473,745,418.271524 PIGGY = 54400.908625 created between 2014-12-05 05:41:31 & 2015-01-05 05:41:47 (31 days)
d) 54400.908625 PIGGY / 473,799,819.180149 PIGGY = 0.0115% new PIGGY created between 2014-12-05 05:41:31 & 2015-01-05 05:41:47 (31 days)
c) 0.0115% / 31 days * 365.25 = 0.1353% coin creation rate per year.

So as it stands, PIGGY is probably the LEAST inflationary coin out there!  Grin

I like the colored coins based on the example given a few posts up. What is Name Registration? Not sure cloud storage is applicable except maybe for educational demonstration purposes. Ditto for Smart Contracts and notary services. (I'm picturing Piggycoin more for grade/middle-schoolers, not law students and business majors, LOL.)

I guess my point is, stay focused. It would be better to develop and release a good lesson plan or two for teachers to actually use Piggycoin in a classroom than to implement a bunch of high-flying features while the intended point of PIGGY languishes for lack of curricula/lesson plans/unit study materials.

I've started paying small amounts of PIGGY to my kids (for things like killing mosquitoes in our RV). Looking forward to teaching them more about it and finding fun ways they can use PIGGY in the months ahead. (At this point trying to explain how to convert PIGGY to BTC to Fiat goes over their heads quick, and they laugh when I have to admit how many PIGGY equals one penny... but we're getting there. ;-)
