Ok, so i have some question.
I can see on the status page that transfers are not available but this does not tell me enough about what is happening.
Some basic information would be helpful: (Tansparency is good even if it means you have to admit mistakes or problems)
Have Intersango team made enquiries about a new banking account for Intersango?
Have they got any banks approval to do business with them?
If so
how far in this process are they?
How long is the process expected to take?
Are the allegations of drug dealing causing problems in establishing a new banking account?
In ToS there is provision to close account and be paid by cheque, is this still available?
I raised a ticket and asked: Do you have any feel for when, if ever, UK transfers will become available again?
I am not asking for a precise statement - a vague indication would be enough... "in a couple of months", "this year sometime", "in a year or two", "not likely to happen" - whatever! The response I got, from Patrick, was: We have no ETA Not stunningly informative! |

Its not just Intersango. Mt Gox is no longer accepting UK deposits, so it could spread.

I'm guessing not. I wasn't asking for or hoping for a real estimate, but even some vague feel would help. Simply to know that you are trying to get UK transfer working again would be nice, or to know that there is no hope of them ever becoming available again would be helpful. At the moment, UK users of Intersango have no idea at all whether we will ever again be able to trade our Bitcoins through Intersango or not. Are any alternatives to banks possible? Could I simply send you cash through registered post? Postal orders? Checks through the post? Your terms page, https://intersango.com/terms.php, mentions checks when discussing account closure. I know that any money transfer method used must be irreversible otherwise there is large potential for fraud... but a wad of banknotes in a registered envelope is hard to charge back! Obviously, bank transfers are quicker, more convenient, involve less human time and effort... but if they are not to be, they are not to be and any and all alternatives must be suggested, even if only so they can be rejected in the attempt to find a better solution. FWIW, I would like Intersango to start functioning again, and hopefully to become an exchange where I and others can trade our Bitcoins and Pounds without the nagging doubts that go with waiting a week for transferred funds to show up in the account, or waiting day after day for a requested withdrawal to be actioned. |

How is Intersango doing with sorting out their GBP transfers (in and out of exchange)? I currently see no ETA yet as I presume that a new bank hasn't been found yet but still at least update us once in a while. Speaking of exchanges (i know this may seem a little off topic) does anyone know of an exchange that still does GBP and BTC trads (buying/selling)? As I've been unable to trade for a long time (over 2 months now).

They just announced that the USD exchange is closing due to low volume. They handle this better than TradeHill did : they put bitcoins on sell to make it easier for people holding USD to get out (Bitcoin withdrawals are faster).

For the curious, here is the mail I received from support@intersango.com: Intersango's USD market will stop trading 2012-10-14 at approximately midnight UTC.
At this time we ask that persons with USD funds either place a withdrawal request or purchase bitcoins.
To facilitate persons wishing to purchase bitcoins Intersango has placed 625 BTC up for sale at 12.1 USD.
Unfortunately the USD market is simply too small to justify it's ongoing operation.

Does that mean Intersango is shutting down? At least there should be an official statement somewhere... While not everyone loved Intersango, overall the platform was very useful and reliable. Currently the reputation of the Intersango guys seems to be way below zero, and every action just rises more suspicions. Given that situation, it might be better just ceasing operations officially and relaunch at some future time. Well -- on a second thought, it might well be that "Intersango guys" effectively aren't in control anymore. Recall: there was an exchange of Intersango stocks against Bitcoinica partnership. We all know this ended in an situation of legal dispute. So this might lead to a situation, where there is no other possibility then keeping the Intersango exchange in "running" state, albeit effectively dysfunctional. A good sign of that actually happening would be for the "Ask" side on Intersango to dry out and the BTC rates to skyrocket(*). (*) I can't see much signs of that happening right now, any thoughts? |

I do not have time to hand hold new users through the process.
So there will be no more new users until I do have time.
