I have an S3 which showed up today I can not log in.
I do get to the screen where you enter the login and pass and I enter root / root no luck. I tried root / admin no luck. I powered off and pressed the hole beside the cat 5 LEDs for ten seconds, tried again with new browser window, same thing, tried with it powered on, same thing. What am I missing here please. It must be something dumb but it is driving me mad. I had another one from ebay show up doa today.

If you bought it used then prior owner may have changed the password?

Depending on what firmware it's using, there's a good chance the factory reset doesn't work. Suggest you flash new firmware to reset it to default - use the Oct 26th version, it's the only (semi) stable one there is

Wouldn't "factory defaults" set it to a default password?

I think they key is what our bud below stated, to flash it, which i will.

If you can find the 12/16 firmware, it's very stable also.

website not working for me.. but, if your s3 works fine dont update it..

try again  it might be better than 0103  i dont see what changed though still a lot of errors but so far just .01% and no x only 45min though

sucks just as bad as 0103 with errors
you even have to reboot after updating config to have correct avg ghs value like last few updates...

While they match the screw positions for the S3 and mount fine the connector that attached to the S3 control board has a plastic tab on it, that prevents the connector from sliding onto the control board connector without damaging it.  Do I need to modify the connector to make it fit or do something else? Any help would be appreciated. Photo of connectors attached.

You should be able to easily swap the plastic connector from the original fan, just make sure you keep the wires in the correct order.

People usually just shave off the tab (I have).  Just make sure to plug it in the correct orientation/polarity.

No problem.  But a 14025 (140mm) fan?  Are you able to actually fit 140mm fans onto the S3's 120mm fan screw holes?

I'm aware that Bitmain's site states on its S3 spec page, "Two 14038 fans mounted on both front and back ends".  I thought that's just a typo because the S3 fans don't look like 140mm fans to me and certainly didn't measure 140mm; it's 120mm x 38mm and therefore 12038 fans.  I've also seen posts on other threads referring to it as 14038 fans and again, I dismissed it as a typo or a perpetuation of a typo initiated by Bitmain's S3 specs.

Am I experiencing a Twilight Zone moment here?

All good suggestions, although its not an easy flash if you can't login. Reset button will likely be broken due to shipping with November firmware if its new.

Is there another way to login? ssh?
Do you hold the reset while powered on or off?

They are 140mm fans with mounting holes in the 120mm position. They block the ethernet port on the front but are fine on the back.

OK, I fixed the 0Gh/s problem. No matter how many times I rebooted or what I did to my S3, I only got 0Gh/s. The fix was that I needed to physically reboot it. Now, its running fine on the 0103 firmware with the S3 voltage settings.

I just did the drop down and chose S3 default, I saw S3+ voltage settings, but assume that won't work, especially I am only using 2 PCI-E in the miner.

That's what I like to KNOW the voltage ? Because when I physically Rebooted it did not work for me. Still the same amount of MASS HW ERRORS!!! JAN 03 AND 08 THE ARE REAL GARBAGE!!!
