just got a used s3 antminer.... was wondering if there are flashes that would allow more cstom options or allow for mining other coins than btc?

You can only mine sha256 coins with a S3, changing the software would not help.

i got the only 256 part but bitmain told me it only mines bitcoin, but i've been mining uno on a stratum srever. last night i blew up power supply so i have an older one runing one side of the s3 can i use a dif power supply to power the other half as long as i dont plug the 2 power supplys into the same side rt?
and lastly is there a way to solo mine with the ant to a wallet download like i did with my vid miner(sgminer) or my cpu miner(minerd) or am i stuck with outside pools like stratum and p2p....can i start my own p2p and loginto that to solo mine wallet? just a point in the rt dir. would be nice.

A power supply is rated in watts or amps. One S3 can use up to or more than 400 watts or 33 amps, if overclocked. If your power supply can supply 70 amps or 840 watts on the 12v rail, that's great to run two S3s, even overclocked. You need to power each side of the miner with at least one plug, two plugs per side make it better on the wires coming from the power supply. 12v is 12v you can have a different power supply on both sides, in that case they only need to support about 18 amps or about 220 watts on the 12v rail. Finally, you can initiate a hand-off with power supplies with zero downtime. One power supply would have to support the miner on each side with one plug, while you plug the second psu in the ports on each side, after turning it on. Then remove the first psu, and populate the other two plugs with the 2nd psu's wires. I can only suggest this for hand-offs, not for mining as things have the potential for messing up. Solo Mining: I think your best bet is to is ckpool. Read about it at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.0If you find a block, you get it all, minus 0.5%. If you don't, I think you just waste electric to make heat and noise. But, if that's what you want to do, the setup could not be easier.

I'm not aware of a easy way to do this. Best I know of is S3+ is later, S3 is earlier. And if it runs around 400-415 or so there is a better chance of being batch 1. There might be a better way then my guessing estimate.

You need to be careful how that is worded. If the psu can supply that wattage/amperage without exceeding 90% of its rated capacity, then it's ok to run two machines. If it can do it without exceeding 80% of the psu's capacity, then it's great to run 2. The closer one gets to the rated output of a psu, the less efficient (and hotter) the psu will run.

ok running great at 218 about 430Gh/s if I do 262 @ 0750 it starts great in the 550 range but by 15 min mark it tanks down to 380's same if I do 281.25 @ 0755 starts great thin drops fast to a slower than norm speed, could it be a lack of power? or is something else going on?

I run mine 250 @ 0750 and it will sometimes hold 500gh/s for days, sometimes it will drop to 480 after a day, but it doesn't go much lower, it plateaus off there. I always reset it when it gets to around 482 to get the 20gh/s back. It's been good the last couple days, weather really cooled down so that might play into it. If I set it to 262.4 @ 0750 it totally freaks out and doesn't hash worth a damn. I think some builds may just be temperamental.

That is a quality S3+. Each one has it's own personality. But you have to love the ones that get you the 500 GHs. I think i had 2 out of 4 that were able to do it easy on mine. Others I was able to get to high 480 GHs. And ofcourse my batch 1's did not match those Like I said, it's behaving right now. For the last several weeks it's been dropping down to 480 between 1-2 days up-time; before that it was holding 49X-50X like it is now. I don't try to run it into the ground or anything, just a little tweaking here and there.

I can only get burst of Oc's for 10-15 min's then the bottom drops out and it goes down to 200-360 range no good but still stable at 218 @ 430 GH/s

nope some S3s just dont OC.. out of the 3 i have, 2 are temperamental. i have one that will barely do 218.. it runs at 425-438 ghs, if i clock it to 225 or higher it actually goes slower. i have one that wont go below 225 without putting x's in one of the chains. it runs at 225 just fine with 453 ghs, but if i switch it to 218 it runs at 300-320 ghs and has x's and the last one will clock to 237 with 0 hwe and runs 470 ghs.

I don't like the use of "temperamental" it's all hard ware and science they don't have moods they have bad chip or brown caps that explode or resistors that swing wide in there tollance range or parts that get to hot and the resistance goes up so performance go down but just moody? I've been OC'ing from back in the days of 600mhz amd's to the first 1ghz cpu......It's bothering me to see it boot and run at 500 + only to have that speed disaper with no good reson......I'll be losing sleep till I understand what is occurring.

Sadly you will lose sleep then. Some are just better then others at overclocking. Granted you void warrenty doing it, so not all do it. But you can have two working S3's. It could be lots of reason's, but it is common for some to OC better then others. That is why it is suggested doing it in steps not just jump up to a frequency someone else posted.

i think you are beating a dead horse here.. these s3s are near the end of life. at .10c per KWH you have until 65b difficulty before they start costing more than they make. its not that far away.. what needs to be found is a way to undervolt and underclock them.
