Thanks to input from Rich, I may have a board with a multi-phase buck converter and would like to experiment some more. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1127340.msg12222540#msg12222540 for details.

Kano, or anyone else, do you know the correct format to input for voltage? Does the 0x0650 listing indicate 0.065 or 0.65 V, or some incremental offset from the default?

Good news that you have one of the S3 that accepts voltage input from cgminer. I understand the format for voltage input is 0650 for 0.65 volts.

Rich

Kano,

Does this firmware work well with both the S3 and S3+?  or does it work well with just one over the other?

Thanks..
Both.

Thanks for the response.  Do you have some sort of reference sheet with frequencies and voltages?

there was one posted on this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=699064.0

but i cant tell you how accurate it is since most s3s cant change voltage and those that have gotten it to work did it by soldering resisters on the dc-dc converters.

anyway its a good thread to read..

I get that lua error when i mess up with cgminer launch config parameters. To fix it i had no choice but to revert to default. But then i solved the inherent problem by changing firmware. Smiley

These were (and still are for someone with cheap power) great machines. I switched my last ones off just a few weeks ago. Lasted a year. No serious issues.

Did that solve it? Because it probably kept the same config files, which you will have to restore to default. If you have a S3 that work, copy paste that config. Or ask for someone here to pastebin it for you.

The most efficient curently being sold to the general public is the S7.  So yes BM.

It ships like somewhere between the 20th and 30th.  So we are getting close.

Efficient, hmm untill now for s7 yes, but they are very well build machines.

spoondolies got very good machines aswell.

it depends on how much you can spend.

s3 is good underclocked if you got cheap electricity as this machines are cheap but youll need a bunch to make some decent profit .

Not new they would all be used and secondary markets I believe.   The S7 and S5 are quite different miners I would agree with that.

And pricing shows this.  Just depends on your electricity price on what I would buy.

Electricity is pretty affordabe where I live, but will an S5 still be efficient at 8 cents a kilowatt? I really lik the efficiency of the S7 but I'm not ready to commit such a large amount towars an S7

Well, it changes (almost always goes down) every 2 weeks ...
Also the pool you mine at will affect what you get paid ...
Most pools should be around 99.x% - fee
Though Eligius is lower than a lot of them.

Pool: https://kano.is - low 0.5% fee PPLNS 3 Days - Most reliable Solo with ONLY 0.5% fee   Bitcointalk thread: Forum
