Feature Request.
Would it be possible to disable the Market Data feature altogether (and preferably by default) in future releases of the wallet?
I don't use it myself, but after the recent Mintpal problems I'm concerned that the failure of this feature can cause the application to fail. At least with a simple wallet you can still access coins when there are problems with accessories.

Would it be possible also to update the blockchain zip? I deleted the blockchain before the fix was applied, and now I'm having serious problems resyncing the wallet. The current blockchain zip is 40 days behind, and after 12 hours I'm still 39 days behind.

Sorry to be complaining, but I'm still a strong supporter.

With the weaver I hope for future projects:

1. Super simple silk staking wallet interface
-basically a tiny window with just my balance and one button to unlock for staking

2. Bitcoin headers-first protocol applied to Silkcoin

Thistleblower I hope one or both of these would solve your (and other users) issues.

Better yet just fix the wallet code so that if it gets the error that there is no data from one of the market api's it will just show all 000's for that market. or whatever is deemed appropriate. But having the option to select which if any market apis you want to see would be cool too.

Yeah, I do like having the market data in there.  Even better, build in exchange trade API's so we don't have to login to an exchange to buy :O

Having said that, no rush though.  Dev has a lot to work on as it is without throwing more his way.   Good to keep in mind though.

I think having a lite wallet based on Multibit would be a great idea, i have no idea on the work involved though, but its been done with Dogecoin, so it is possible.

Just an option to disable Market Data (preferably On By Default) would be enough. The recent Mintpal failure has shown that the wallet will not launch if there is a problem with Market Data. It has also shown that the Fix is not dependent on issuing a new wallet. The feeds are controlled from a central location.
This means that a fault in the Feeds for Market Data can Prevent the Wallet from Opening and prevent users from accessing their coins.
Putting it another way... an attack on the market data feeds may currently prevent users from accessing their funds. This is not a small issue. It could affect every Silkcoin user (certainly those who use the Windows wallet). If I can't open my wallet because it will not open when there's a problem with Market Data, then my coins might still be safe, but they're beyond my control.
So, with respect, I suggest that it's an issue which requires urgent attention.

No we run the Apis from our website and then to markets.  Has a cache to allow us to freeze Apis before hitting the wallet if changed by the exchange.   I was so caught up in the mint pal fiasco, didn't even think about the API being changed really.  They've now disabled the API completely and we have froze it from our site.

My Bad for not paying close enough attention.  Was busy being blown away by gox #2.

In considering though, it likely is a good idea to have a lite client as well.  The more features in wallet, and In particular dealing with exchanges, the more problems can arise.

As well, some users may only want send receive balance and staking features, so a lite client as aback up or as a user preference might be a good idea.

We have tried numerous times to replicate the error and so far no luck.   Can users confirm if these crashes were windows, Mac, or both?

Think there was 3 reports of crashes before situation was resolved.

Before you notified us of the cause and the fix, my (W764) wallet had crashed repeatedly as it was opening. Panic. Backup and remove wallet.dat (test app with fresh wallet.dat). Virus Checks. Download a fresh copy of app. Try another machine using same blockchain. Delete blockchain (without making a copy). Wallet still won't open. Reports here of similar problems. You report the fix. Left to redownload blockchain because of own carelessness. 18 hrs using blockchain.zip. Lots of time wasted (but not needlessly if lessons are learned).

Sorry about the shorthand, but that's it in a nutshell. Thanks for fixing it (but please update blockchain.zip). But my point is that we now have a proven mechanism that can remotely disable wallets. So the ability to reinstall the app without enabling the features looks like a priority... or a second 'emergency' wallet that enables transfer of funds. But that means maintaining Two wallets in sync. Mandatory upgrades will apply to Both. And that leaves room for more confusion.

PS
I also (carelessly) deleted the logfiles or I could pass them on to you. Sorry. There was an entry about being unable to make a connection, so I tested the app with the internet disconnected but it still crashed (although it remained open slightly longer before crashing). I used CClean to clear browser traces DNS and registry faults, but in retrospect I should have tried a more thorough registry cleaner.

Should have the blockchain download ready for tomorrow.  Will add to the git.   I'll try and keep an up to date download regularly available from now on.

And yes.  A lite bulletproof staking wallet might be just what the camel ordered.

There is quiet work in progress, mainly working on bugfixes ATM.
Arteleis will be able to fill you in with more, i beleive there is a new wallet revision with mintpal removed.

Mintpal is the new Mt Gox.

Sorry removed the poll site from the thread.  Not finished yet.  Will be transferring it to vote.silkcoin.io.  Finishing the comm system for it.

We are preparing for the pos change, as well as coding the multipool, looking to release a lite staking wallet, and working on the weaver.

I will upload the new blockchain download to the git this afternoon.

There are currently no reported bugs in the wallet.  Mintpal will be removed, although there is no current threat of the api causing any issues as it has been frozen.
