compared to the s7 heat output the output from the s5 is like a warm summer breeze.
Well with my laundry room set up heat and noise are not really a concern to me, but my electricity rates are so high here that I think the S5 is all I'm willing to pay for for this "hobby".  After I move and see what the rates are like I'll look at the S7 (also after there is a used market for them).  It's fun to me to have a pony in the race, even if it's just 1 vs. the herd.
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

That is what I call a HEATSINK! Cheesy what are the temps on that? It looks pretty good. I'd suggest you have one of those usb port splitters so you can mount it with the heatsink up.
I got a heatsink for my block rupta off ebay. Certainly increased surface area and temps down heavy.

S5s, amirite? That's a pretty good setup. I run my mixed s3/s5 rig outside my house in a shed. Temps stay way down as long as the ambient isnt too hot Smiley
How hot it get down there? Looks like you have a pretty good way of cooling. Noise as well?
I feel like I get way too excited on mining rigs. Theyre just SO interesting Smiley

its in a basement so the noise is not to bad unless it gets warm then the fans get whiney. but they are set to 100% anyway on all the machines.

3 s5
4 s7

the s7s are the one with the tubes attached.

all overclocked. the s5s are running at 412.5. 3 s7s are running at 731, with 1 running at 656 (batch 7). trying to eek out as much btc before the 1/2.

its about 80ish down there which is more then i want, the miners are running mid/high 60s. would like to get them down to low 60s.
Thinking of upgrading my "exhaust" fan to a larger one. looking at a 24inch barrel to move some of the hot air out of that area.

also trying to upgrade tubing attached to the exhaust fan as that is just the tubing i pulled from the bathroom exhaust fan to help move some heat outside. will probably end up with a 4 inch tube vs the 3inch thats on there now.

what fan settings did you use for the overclocked S7s?

100%.. all 7 of the miners are at 100%

the s5s have an extra stock fan on the back of them to help pull the air through. so it can get pretty loud at times.

The final setup will probably use the insulated tubing to connect the S5 to the vent and see if that makes it quieter as well.
My 3D printed ducts should arrive today, so I spent last night whipping up an insulated vent tube for the S5.  I used standard 4" dryer ducting and some sticky foil-backed duct insulation.  Adding this vent tube dropped the temp on the miner 1-2*C, I'm guessing the hot air wasn't getting out of the way fast enough without the tube and the hot air was backing up a little in the previous configuration.

My Avalon 6 in the same spot, using two 850w OCZ psus, one on each blade.  Solo mining at the moment, 3.7TH of awesomeness.  Cool

My 3D printed ducts should arrive today,

Oh, and here's an updated pict (before the A6 arrived) of my S5 with the 3D printed parts on (intake fan duct, top and bottom heat sink covers, I did not use the exhaust fan duct) and I added a pull fan.  I also got some clear acrylic side covers because they are neat.  At 400 freq and 60% fan setting it runs about 50-53*C.

Nice set up, but I hope the S1 is undervolted, otherwise I can't see why running a S1 today would be worth it.  An S3 will use the same wattage as an S1.
