The Novec didn't let me overclock the Neptune's enough to make it worth it.  I am waiting for the Monarch's to see if I can overclock them if they ever ship.

 

Do you happen to have some SP10s in your disposition to test with Novec? It would be very interesting to see what the performance would be. Taking in consideration that you can pull some ~100W more from the PSU, by removing the fans, and with Novecs decent cooling...

Can you actually just put the whole miner in a tub full of that stuff?

Probably not worth the investment...that would be hella expensive...

Yes I am using the DPS2000-BB's.  I am running 4 S3's per PSU.  I bet I could run more but I only have 8 PCIE cables per PSU.

I am pulling 33 amps @ 240V for 24 of them so 330W each.  That is only 1320W per PSU.  I could put 2 more easy on each PSU if I made new cables with more PCIE connectors.

Out of curiosity were the Monarchs you ordered conversions from 65nm gear or did you pre-order Monarch?  Did they offer you cloud hashing yet?

The S3s seem to be drawing less power than I figured you would, what kind of ambient temps you have there in that warehouse?  You must have arctic ari or something

They were conversions from mini-rigs.  Yes I have cloudhashing for almost all of my Monarch orders.

The amps went up to 34 once I got all the S3's working correctly.  3 of them had boards that were disconnected and 2 of them had fans that got damaged.  So now they average around 340W each.  

I keep the warehouse at 88F.  My 15,000cfm blower is going in tuesday to remove the heat.  I actually have 60 tons of AC already installed but I don't turn them on because they use too much power.  I use 1 AC unit to keep the building at 88F during the day.

15,000 cfm = 15,000 Cubic Feet per Minute. That's how much air it can blow. It is not for cooling, it is just to remove the hot air, exactly 15,000 Cubic Feet per Minute.

guys...you are picking nits here

moving air around has a cooling effect, especially since miners operate at temps that are generally above even the highest ambient temps...unless you happen to live in Death Valley or Aziziya

if you let the air get trapped in a building or room, the miners can quickly raise the temps to really high levels...exhaust that hot air and also bring in fresh, cooler air then you can maintain stasis

it is "cooling" even if it is not using some sort of refrigeration mechanism to do so

Im siding with jimmothy - he knows enough about how removing hot air works to reduce operating temperatures of hardware (assuming the air flowing is in a lower temperature than your exhaust, either by A/C or simply cooler outside air) that to say that removing heat isnt cooling is silly.

lets rephrase the question: BEFORE and AFTER adding the blower to remove hot air, what is the difference in heat production (aka power draw) that the building can handle under the same conditions as before? obviously theres a dozen factors like placement and direction and power draw of the blower, but a rough number is enough. can you handle ~30kW more equipment than before? 50kW?

The issue is complicated by the fact that the incoming air is the same temp as the ambient, and the internal air is being dumped outside.  The real question should be what is the heat capacity of those 15000CF that is being removed. That depends on air pressure (elevation) and water vapor.  It's a little complicated unless you do that stuff for a living.

If the 15000CFM is able to bring in enough "cool" air from outside and the hot air can rise to the top of the warehouse it doesn't really matter.

Well I am using a Helios KRD 500 wich pulls around 5650cfm and "drains" my pocket with 1,72kW so you do the math.


My fan is more than enough to cool 100 ATI Radeon 280X/290 cards on SCrypt, I can bet it can cool twice that, if I had better air ducts (im using a 50x50 air duct and a adapter)
